Chapter 408: Cast A Long Line To Catch A Big Fish
After leaving the meeting room, one of the generals muttered in dissatisfaction, “Who is he pretending to be? Just a nineteen-year-old kid dares to act so high and mighty in front of us?! Bah! He is too arrogant and doesn’t know the height of Heaven and the depth of hell!”

When Ge Zidong heard this, he glared at the general and reprimanded him in a low voice, “Stop it! Are you tired of living?!”

Looking at Ge Zidong’s fearful expression, the general snorted and said sarcastically, “General Ge, you are the most experienced among us and have served the army the longest. Don’t tell me… You are afraid of that brat, Mo Yuan?”

The moment he said this, Ge Zidong quickly covered the general’s mouth and gritted his teeth. “If you want to die, don’t drag me down with you!”

Pushing the general away in disgust, Ge Zidong left angrily.

Watching him go, the general spat on the ground. “Bah! Just a brat, and he is already scared! Useless!”

Patting his shoulder, another general said, “Brother, don’t be angry. General Ge is old and muddle-headed. Don’t let him affect our great plan.”

Hearing this, the first general slowly calmed down. “You are right. We can’t let him ruin our plan. Since he doesn’t have the guts, we won’t invite him. When we succeed later, we can just send that old fool to the Yellow River.”

Seeing that he had calmed down, one of them said, “Let’s go. This isn’t the place to talk about that.”

With that, the group of generals walked away, speaking in low voices.

After they left, a man walked out from the shadows. He watched the group of generals until they disappeared from his sight, then entered the tent.

Clasping his fists, he said, “Brother Mo, you guessed it right. Those generals really plan to rebel. Only General Ge didn’t join them.”

Seeing that Mo Yuan was writing down an order and saying nothing, the man asked, “Brother Mo, should we execute those generals?”

Mo Yuan set down his writing brush after finishing writing down the plan, then looked at the man and said, “No need. Let them do as they wish for now.”

Pondering his words, the man asked, “Brother Mo, are you planning to cast a long line to catch a big fish?”

Mo Yuan nodded and instructed, “Jinhuan, inform the brothers to give those generals a chance to act. We will catch them in the act, so we can execute them without harming the morale of the Feng Army or the loyalty of the Ji Army’s ex-soldiers.”

Narrowing his eyes, Mo Yuan said coldly, “It’s time to set an example for the generals and soldiers of the Ji Army about the Feng Army’s rules. Those who betray the Feng Army have only one ending, which is death.”

Pei Jinhuan clasped his fists and responded, “Yes, General Mo.”

After Pei Jinhuan left to carry out his task, Mo Yuan wrote a report about what had happened in Xiquan City and his plan.

When he was done, he took out a bamboo whistle and blew it. The bamboo whistle made a high-pitched sound that humans couldn’t hear.

Whii~!

A few seconds later, a man in black wearing a mask appeared before him. Without a word, the man reached out to Mo Yuan.

Standing up, Mo Yuan handed him the letter and clasped his fists. “Brother, sorry to trouble you. Please deliver this urgent report to the Great General.”

The shadow guard nodded, put away the report, and disappeared from there.

Witnessing this, Mo Yuan couldn’t help but marvel at the shadow guard’s martial arts and muttered, “The Feng Clan’s Shadow Guards are really experts in martial arts. No wonder even the generals can’t defeat them in battle.”

While Mo Yuan was dealing with military affairs and planning the settlement for the common people, a group of people found themselves in a dilemma.

Inside one of the dilapidated courtyards located in the southern district of Xiquan City, Wen Yirui stared at the map spread out on the table before him.

Sitting beside him, the leader of Wen Yirui’s bodyguards observed his young master’s gloomy expression.

After a brief moment of hesitation, he said, “Second Young Master, ever since the Feng Army took over Xiquan City, they have been enforcing a martial curfew. If we want to leave this city, our best chance is about a quarter of a sichen before it begins.”

Hearing this, Wen Yirui glanced at the leader and asked coldly, “Do you think this young master doesn’t know that?”

Lowering his head, the leader quickly said, “This subordinate has overstepped. Please punish me, Second Young Master.”

“Forget it.” Looking back at the map, Wen Yirui fell into deep thought for a long while before asking, “Have you found out their patrol schedule and shift change times?”

The leader took out a sheet of paper and spread it on the table. “Second Young Master, this is the list of their patrol and shift change times. Based on the information we have gathered so far, their schedule appears fixed.”

“Our current location isn’t far from the southern city gate, so our best chance is to leave from there. However, we will have at most the time it takes to drink a cup of tea to slip out before the gates close.”

Wen Yirui considered this and asked, “What if we leave at night? Can we get out without alerting the guards?”

The leader frowned slightly before answering, “That would be difficult. Aside from avoiding the guards and patrols, we’d also need to climb the city wall to escape. We wouldn’t have enough time to do that.”

Looking at Wen Yirui, he added, “Second Young Master, our best chance is still to leave before the martial curfew begins.”

After listening to the leader’s explanation, Wen Yirui abandoned his plan to escape at night.

A few moments later, Wen Yirui finally said, “Since we can only leave during the day, we will need to disguise ourselves.”
