Chapter 404: The Lin Clan
Seeing that Feng Xiyan was no longer angry, Huang Wenping let out a sigh of relief. “Young Master, this servant will go and invite the heir of the Lin Clan to the main hall. You should freshen up before meeting him.”

Glancing down at his dusty clothes, Feng Xiyan nodded. “Alright. I will go in a while.”

With that, Feng Xiyan returned to his courtyard, while Huang Wenping went to find Lin Ruichuan in one of the guest courtyards.

After changing his clothes, Feng Xiyan went to the main hall to meet Lin Ruichuan.

Seeing him coming from a distance, the servant waiting outside clasped his hands, bowed slightly, and greeted, “Young Master. The guest had arrived.”

“Mhm.” Feng Xiyan nodded at the servant, then went inside.

Hearing the servant’s voice from outside, Lin Ruichuan turned toward the entrance. The moment he saw Feng Xiyan walk in, his hands, which were hidden inside his wide sleeves, clenched tightly.

Standing up from his seat, Lin Ruichuan smiled and greeted Feng Xiyan with a hint of nervousness in his gentle voice, “Younger cousin, it has been years since we last met. I hope you have been well.”

Feng Xiyan ignored Lin Ruichuan and walked toward the main seat.

After he sat down, the servant at the side stepped forward and poured a cup of tea for him.

Feng Xiyan took a sip before coldly asking, “Why are you here?”

Knowing that Feng Xiyan was still angry with the Lin Clan, Lin Ruichuan sighed inwardly. He sat back down, then took out a letter and said, “Younger cousin, I came to deliver this letter to you.”

Hearing this, Feng Xiyan glanced at the servant.

Receiving his signal, the servant stepped forward and took the letter from Lin Ruichuan. He then handed it to Feng Xiyan before returning to his position.

Seeing that the letter looked old but well-preserved, Feng Xiyan flipped it over. The second his eyes fell upon the words written on the envelope, his pupils shrank.

[To my beloved son, Yan’er.]

Recognizing his mother’s handwriting, Feng Xiyan’s fingers tightened around the letter.

Gritting his teeth, he asked, his voice filled with suppressed murderous intent, “Why do you have my mother’s letter?”

As the heir of the wealthiest clan in the Central Continent, Lin Ruichuan had been trained as the next patriarch since he could walk. Years of training had honed his observation skills and intuition to perfection.

Without needing to guess, he could easily tell what was in Feng Xiyan’s mind.

Smiling sadly, Lin Ruichuan replied, “Younger cousin, this letter was left by my paternal aunt when she visited Lin Nan Province before the tragedy. I remember she told my father to keep the letter and only hand it to you once you had made your decision.”

Feng Xiyan raised his eyes from the letter to study Lin Ruichuan’s expression for a while and then asked, “What kind of decision are you talking about?”

“You should know the answer better than I,” Lin Ruichuan answered calmly.

Seeing that Feng Xiyan was still staring at him, Lin Ruichuan sighed and added, “Younger cousin, why don’t you read the letter first? You can ask me anything afterward.”

Feng Xiyan looked back at the letter, then took a deep breath before carefully opening it, handling it as his most precious treasure.

Watching him treat the letter so carefully, Lin Ruichuan felt a pang of sadness.

Sighing inwardly, he thought, ‘I hope Xiyan won’t blame the Lin Clan after he learns about Paternal Aunt’s and Grandfather’s decision back then.’

While Lin Ruichuan was lost in thought, Feng Xiyan read the letter carefully.

[Yan’er, if you are reading this letter, you must have made your decision to seek justice for our Feng Clan.

Mother knows you would blame me for my decision back then. You can blame me, but as your mother, I could not let you die.

If sending you away was the only way to save your life, then I would do it again—no matter how many times I had to make that choice.

Yan’er, the road to seeking justice is harsh and cruel. Mother wished you would not choose this path, but since you have, I can only support you.

The Lin Clan is my family, and also your maternal family. I hope you will not blame them for their inaction when the emperor schemed and executed the Feng Clan.

It was not that your grandfather or the Lin Clan refused to help us, but I begged them to stay away from the Feng Clan’s case.

Only by staying alive and becoming stronger could the Lin Clan one day help you in your journey to seek justice for our clan.

Yan’er, please forgive your mother and father for letting you bear the weight of the Feng Clan. I hope you will accept the Lin Clan’s help and one day succeed in clearing the Feng Clan’s name.

Don’t be sad, Yan’er. Your mother and father will watch over you from Heaven. When you complete your journey, Mother hopes you can visit us with a smile. Until then, please be careful and don’t trust anyone easily.

With love and blessings, your mother, Lin Siyun.]

Staring at the letter, Feng Xiyan’s tears dripped onto the yellowed paper. He opened his mouth, but not a word came out. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath to control his emotions.

A few moments later, Feng Xiyan slowly opened his eyes, folded the letter, and carefully placed it on the table.

With his eyes still slightly red, Feng Xiyan looked at Lin Ruichuan and asked in a hoarse voice, “Elder Cousin, you didn’t come here just to deliver this letter, did you?”

“Yes.” Nodding at him, Lin Ruichuan explained, “We heard the news that the Feng Army went to Xiquan City. When Grandfather learned of it, he said the time had come for the Lin Clan to take action.”

“The purpose of my visit this time is to support your cause. Although the Lin Clan lacks military power, our wealth surpasses that of the wealthiest empire in the Central Continent, the Zhou Empire. With our support, Younger Cousin, you need not worry about resources or money.”

Listening to what he said, Feng Xiyan thought for a moment and then asked, “What does Maternal Grandfather plan to do?”
