Chapter 389: Night Market
Patting Feng Wu’s shoulder, Bai Hanyun smiled gently. “I should be the one thanking you and Feng Xiyan. If I hadn’t met you both, I’d probably be dead by now—let alone have taken back what is mine and live this comfortably and safely.”

Feng Wu already knew from Bao Shengjie about Bai Hanyun’s tragic childhood and the difficult life she had in the Bai family after her grandfather passed away.

Like him, Feng Xiyan, and the other shadow guards, Bai Hanyun had endured a harsh life, struggling with all her might just to survive another day since the day she was born.

Even though he now understood that she wasn’t a fairy and this world wasn’t Heaven, Feng Wu still believed Bai Hanyun was worthy of being worshipped as their goddess.

Although he finally knew that Heaven’s blessing was simply her effort to survive by trading with Feng Xiyan for money, Feng Wu still felt deep gratitude for Bai Hanyun’s kindness and willingness to help.

After all, not everyone sane would believe that a mirror that could connect to another world exists. Only those kind enough to care about the life and death of strangers will give it a try by spending money to send supplies over.

Taking a deep breath to steady his emotions, Feng Wu gently placed the tomatoes back into the bag and suddenly knelt before Bai Hanyun.

Raising three fingers, he looked straight into her eyes and solemnly vowed, “With Heaven as my witness, I, Feng Wu, will serve Fairy Bai as I serve my Master. From this moment on, Fairy Bai is my closest family, my Mistress, and my friend—just like my Master. I vow that I will protect her with my life.”

Bai Hanyun was stunned by his sudden oath. Regaining her senses, she hurriedly helped him up.

“Feng Wu, please don’t kneel to me anymore. Since you have said that you are my friend and family, we should treat each other as equals.”

Hearing that, Feng Wu smiled inwardly. ‘Indeed, I didn’t make the wrong choice. Fairy Bai is worthy of my loyalty.’

With that thought, Feng Wu nodded obediently. “Yes, Fairy Bai.”

Seeing that he had calmed down, Bai Hanyun waved her hand and stored all the supplies in her Qiankun Pouch.

Smiling at Feng Wu, she said, “Thank you for your hard work today, Feng Wu. As a reward, I will take you somewhere special. Let’s go.”

Curious about that special place, Feng Wu followed Bai Hanyun out of the empty warehouse.

After she locked the door, Bai Hanyun drove toward the night market—the heavenly paradise for foodies!

Parking her car at the parking lot near the night market, Bai Hanyun turned off the engine and looked at Feng Wu. “Feng Wu, there are a lot of people here. Be careful of pickpockets and stay close to me. Don’t get lost.”

Nodding at her, Feng Wu replied, “This subordinate will follow Fairy Bai’s instructions.”

“Let’s go.”

Bai Hanyun got out of the car, followed closely by Feng Wu. After locking the car, she led the way to the night market.

Standing before the long street lined with countless food and merchandise stalls, Bai Hanyun took a deep breath and sighed. “It smells so good here!”

Seeing the street bustling with activity and crowded with people, Feng Wu could only stare in awe.

It had been more than three years since he had last seen such a lively scene. Even during the most prosperous period of the Yu Empire, there was no scene as bustling as this.

While he stared, curious and excited at the surroundings, Bai Hanyun grabbed his arm and pulled him forward.

“Come on, let’s check what kind of food they sell tonight.”

Following her closely, Feng Wu felt as if he had truly stepped into Heaven for the first time since arriving in the modern world.

Bai Hanyun grinned when she saw Feng Wu visiting every stall and buying food like an excited child.

‘He didn’t even show this much excitement when he saw the towering buildings or rode the plane before. He is indeed a foodie.’

While Bai Hanyun and Feng Wu enjoyed themselves, sampling food and buying all kinds of snacks at the night market, in the other world, Feng Xiyan and Zhan Qi finally saw Xiqiang City’s high walls in the distance.

Wiping the sweat mixed with dust from his face with his sleeve, Zhan Qi pointed ahead and said, “Great General, look. The city gate is actually open at this hour.”

Feng Xiyan followed his gaze and saw two long lines forming outside the gate. Frowning slightly, he said, “Something must have happened while we were away. Let’s hurry.”

“Yes, Great General.”

With that, Feng Xiyan and Zhan Qi sped toward the city gate.

Half an hour later, a soldier stationed in the watchtower noticed a cloud of dust rising in the distance. Narrowing his eyes, he tried to see who was approaching.

When he caught sight of the majestic black-and-gold armor gleaming under the moonlight, his eyes lit up.

Rushing to the war drum, he grabbed the drumsticks and began to beat the drum excitedly.

Dum~ dudum! Dum~ dudum! Dum~ dudum!

As the sound of the war drum echoed through the surroundings, the soldiers of the Feng Army rushed up to the city wall to look.

Fan Wanming, who had been patrolling the city wall, looked into the distance. When he saw Feng Xiyan and Zhan Qi approaching, his eyes lit up instantly.

Fan Wanming turned around and ordered, “The Great General is back! Prepare to welcome him!”

“Yes, General Fan!”

The order was quickly relayed, and the gate captain hurriedly cleared the road.

“Make way! The Great General and General Zhan have returned! Step aside! Don’t block the road!”

Following the captain’s orders, the soldiers guarding the gate swiftly guided the people queuing in front of the city gate to the roadside.

Then, clasping their fists, the gate captain and the Feng Army soldiers knelt on the ground and shouted in unison, “Welcome back, Great General! Welcome back, General Zhan!”
