Chapter 383: Qian Weina’s Regret
Standing in the middle of the Bai family villa’s living room, Bai Li screamed hysterically at the police officers collecting evidence around the villa.
“Get out of here! Get out!”
Holding her hand from behind, Qian Weina cried in distress. “Li Li, stop it. Mother begs you. Please, stop screaming.”
Instead of calming down, Bai Li grew even more agitated when she heard those words. Prying her mother’s fingers off her left hand, Bai Li turned around and shoved Qian Weina hard.
Thud!
Falling to the cold floor, Qian Weina cried out in pain, “Ah!”
Looking up, she stared at her daughter in disbelief. Trembling in shock, Qian Weina realized for the first time that she didn’t seem to know her daughter as well as she thought.
While Qian Weina was still frozen in shock, Bai Li glared at her and screamed, “It’s your fault! All of this is your fault! If you’d let me kill that bitch, none of this would have happened!”
The moment Qian Weina heard that, her heart sank and her pupils constricted. Pushing her aching body off the floor, she hurried toward Bai Li and covered her mouth.
“Li Li! Stop talking!” she ordered in horror.
Unfortunately, Qian Weina was still too late.
While Bai Li struggled and cursed in a muffled voice, the prosecutor had already heard everything.
Adjusting his glasses, the prosecutor leaned toward one of the police officers searching for evidence and whispered something.
Receiving the instruction, the officer nodded. “Understood. I will go immediately.”
After giving the order, the prosecutor approached Qian Weina and the hysterical Bai Li.
“Madam Bai, Miss Bai, please come with us to the police station. We need to take your statements,” the prosecutor said with a polite smile.
Seeing that the smile didn’t reach his eyes, Qian Weina realized that the prosecutor had heard Bai Li’s words. Her hand slowly dropped as she closed her eyes in regret and despair.
Letting out a shaky breath, she thought, ‘It’s over. I should have tried harder to stop Li Li and Yansheng when I first learned about their plan.’
At that moment, Qian Weina truly regretted her inaction. Unfortunately, there was no medicine for regret in this world.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, the prosecutor gestured to two female police officers and ordered, “Take them away.”
While Qian Weina obediently allowed one of the female police officers to escort her out, Bai Li didn’t let the other female police officer touch her. Bai Li even tried to slap her.
Fortunately, the female police officer reacted quickly and dodged the blow.
Glaring at her, Bai Li shouted crazily, “Stay away from me! I don’t want to go to the police station!”
The prosecutor, who had seen many emotionally unstable suspects before, remained calm.
Without changing his expression, he turned to the male police officers and said, “What are you guys waiting for? Take her away.”
At once, two male police officers stepped forward. One of them also took out a pair of handcuffs.
Bai Li’s eyes widened in fear at this scene. Spotting the kitchen door, she gritted her teeth and made a desperate decision. In the next second, she bolted toward the kitchen.
“Stop her!” the prosecutor shouted, realizing what she intended to do.
Rushing inside, Bai Li grabbed a kitchen knife, then opened the floor-to-ceiling glass window. Without hesitation, she ran out of the kitchen.
By the time the officers arrived, she was already gone.
“Quick! Bai Li has escaped! Block all exits!” shouted one of the male police officers.
Unfortunately for them, Bai Li had lived in the villa since she was two years old and knew every hidden path. While evading the police, she ran out of the villa, clutching only her phone and a kitchen knife in her hands.
As she fled the villa complex, Bai Li’s eyes burned red with hatred.
Gritting her teeth, she thought as blood seeped out from the corner of her lips, ‘Bai Hanyun, this is all because of you! Since you want to send me to hell, then I will drag you down with me!’
By the time Bai Li disappeared into the mountain forest not far from the villa complex, news of Bai Yansheng’s corruption and attempted murder had already spread across the country.
Sitting in his CEO’s office, Gui Xiaoxu calmly watched the breaking news on his laptop.
Just as the reporter began interviewing bystanders in front of Bai Group’s headquarters, the door suddenly opened.
Hearing the familiar footsteps, Gui Xiaoxu asked without looking away from the laptop screen, “What’s wrong? Why are you in such a hurry?”
Ke Ting stopped before him and asked, “Boss, have you heard the news?”
Before he could answer, the reporter’s voice came through the laptop speakers.
[Currently, the police are still investigating the connection between Bai Yansheng and other Bai Group shareholders. As for the attempted murder case, there has been no official confirmation from the police. We are still waiting for new updates regarding this case.]
Seeing that there was nothing more to gain from the broadcast, Gui Xiaoxu turned down the volume and looked at Ke Ting.
Finally receiving Gui Xiaoxu’s attention, Ke Ting said, “Boss, you heard the news. I found out that the military is also involved in this case. I’m worried they will find evidence against us because of this case.”
Gui Xiaoxu tapped his fingers lightly on the desk, deep in thought.
A moment later, he looked up and asked, “Ke Ting, has anyone requested to meet me in the past few days?”
Nodding in response, Ke Ting checked his tablet and handed it over to Gui Xiaoxu.
“Two requests,” he said. “One from the Police Investigation Department, and the other from a man named Lei Jingqian.”
“After some background checking, I found that Lei Jingqian is an active soldier. He is currently serving as a captain in the military’s Special Forces Investigation Division. He was the one leading the investigation into the underground world over the past three years.”
“Based on the information we have gathered so far, this man already knew that Gui Sihong was the leader of the Xue Wu Gang. His request to meet you must have something to do with that.”
Leaning back in his chair, Gui Xiaoxu frowned slightly.
