Chapter 349: Treasure Trove (1)
The soldier clasped his fists and reported, “Reporting to the Great General. Everyone has already gathered in the open field and awaits your orders.”

Hearing this, Feng Xiyan said, “Good. Lead the way.”

“Yes, Great General.”

Before leaving, Feng Xiyan turned to the captain of the elite soldiers and ordered, “Bring the supplies to the kitchen and let the kitchen staff prepare some porridge to distribute to the soldiers later. Also, send one team of soldiers to set up a porridge stall for the common people.”

The captain clasped his fists and responded, “Yes, Great General. This subordinate will arrange it immediately.”

While the captain went to carry out the order, the generals could only sigh and lament that Feng Xiyan was indeed a good leader. If the Ji Army had this kind of commander, they wouldn’t have fallen so low that they could only surrender to the enemy before the battle began.

Not knowing what was on the generals’ minds, Feng Xiyan calmly held Bai Hanyun’s hand and followed the soldier to the open field.

Arriving at the open field, Bai Hanyun saw countless soldiers standing neatly beneath a high platform. She scanned them and counted two hundred soldiers in one group, with three hundred and ten groups below, totaling sixty-two thousand soldiers.

Knowing that women couldn’t step into the barracks, Bai Hanyun pulled Feng Xiyan’s arm and whispered, “I will wait for you outside. It would be bad if they saw you bring me in right now.”

Feng Xiyan frowned slightly at her words but still nodded and replied, “Alright.”

Before he left, Feng Xiyan glanced in a certain direction.

Hidden in the shadows, Feng Yi received his signal and nodded.

After giving the order, Feng Xiyan reluctantly let go of Bai Hanyun’s hand and walked up to the high platform.

Knowing that there were many things he needed to handle there, Bai Hanyun decided to take a look at the city. As she walked toward the entrance of the barracks, Feng Yi appeared two steps behind her.

Sensing his presence, Bai Hanyun turned around. Seeing that it was Feng Yi, she smiled and asked, “Feng Yi, can you accompany me to look around the city?”

Feng Yi nodded. “Yes, Fairy Bai.”

“Thank you.” With Feng Yi accompanying her, Bai Hanyun was not afraid and began to wander around the dilapidated city.

As Bai Hanyun took notes while walking down the deserted street, Feng Yi became curious and asked, “Fairy Bai, what are you writing?”

Bai Hanyun showed him the small notebook and explained, “Your Master told me that Xiquan City used to be a famous trading hub in the past. Since it prospered before, it can do the same in the future.”

“I’m planning to rebuild Xiquan City to attract businessmen and common people. While we can bring in more people to help with the rebuilding project, we can also earn money for the Feng Army.”

“With the addition of the Ji Army soldiers, Feng Xiyan will now need at least three times the amount of supplies he used to spend each month. It’s not a solution to depend only on Feng Xiyan’s savings. We need to find a source of income for a more stable life in the future.”

Feng Yi fell silent after listening to Bai Hanyun’s explanation. As the commander of the Feng Clan’s secret guards, he knew how much Feng Xiyan spent every month to raise them and the Feng Army.

With money losing its value, it became harder to procure supplies, weapons, and equipment, which put more pressure on Feng Xiyan.

After a long moment of silence, Feng Yi suddenly knelt before Bai Hanyun and said, “Thank you, Fairy Bai. If not for you, Master and all of us would be dead by now.”

Already used to their habit of kneeling whenever they want to thank her, Bai Hanyun calmly reached out to help Feng Yi up. She wanted to pat his shoulder, but Feng Yi was too tall, so she patted his arm instead and grinned at him.

“You don’t need to thank me. If not for your Master, I might be dead by now. We are helping each other.”

Feng Yi didn’t believe her words. How could they possibly save a Fairy?

Clenching his hands, Feng Yi thought, ‘Fairy Bai is so kind. She must have said that so I won’t feel any burden.’

Unaware that Feng Yi had already written a hundred-thousand-word novel with her and Feng Xiyan as the protagonists in his mind, Bai Hanyun continued strolling down the street.

An hour later, Bai Hanyun stopped in front of a huge double gate. The red color of the gate had faded, but she could still see traces of its former glory from the two lion-head handles hanging on it.

Looking up, she read the words on the wooden plaque. “Ji Clan’s Manor? Is this the manor of General Ji Hui?”

“Yes. There should be only one Ji Clan in this city,” Feng Yi replied calmly.

Seeing that nobody was around, Bai Hanyun turned to him and asked, “Can I go inside?”

Feng Yi nodded. “Yes.”

Getting his affirmation, Bai Hanyun lifted her feet and ascended the low stairs.

Creak…

Feng Yi pushed open the heavy double gate for her, then stepped aside.

Walking past the gate, Bai Hanyun touched it and muttered in awe, “The owner of this manor must have been very rich. They actually used Red Huanghuali wood for the gate.”

Following behind, Feng Yi watched Bai Hanyun inspect everything curiously like a child and couldn’t help but think, ‘Looks like Fairy Bai likes this manor. I should report this to Master later.’

While Feng Yi was still thinking about what to report to Feng Xiyan, Bai Hanyun arrived at a beautiful courtyard. Although there was no more water, fish, or flowers in the garden, the design itself was exquisite.

At a glance, Bai Hanyun could tell that the owner of this place must have been a woman of high status within the Ji Clan.
