Chapter 806: Sarah’s Shattered Trust
I stepped back into the room and froze.

Sarah was already being helped into a wheelchair by a nurse, her movements stiff and unyielding. Her face was a mask of stubborn defiance, her red-rimmed eyes burning with a mix of grief and fury. Marina stood nearby, her arms crossed tightly over her chest, her entire body radiating barely contained anger.

I turned to Marina, my voice calm but edged with curiosity. “What’s going on?”

Marina’s voice was sharp, her usual warmth replaced by a cutting frustration. “Oh, your precious Officer Sarah is leaving!” She gestured toward Sarah with a bitter sweep of her hand.

“She won’t accept our help. Won’t even let me call her a taxi—no, she had to do it herself! And now she’s just… leaving!” Her voice rose, trembling with anger.

“After everything we’ve done for her! After I stayed up all night making sure she was okay! After you carried her here and paid for everything!”

Sarah didn’t even glance at her. She just sat there, her jaw clenched, her fingers digging into the armrests of the wheelchair like she was daring anyone to stop her.

Marina’s voice cracked, her anger spilling over. “You’re making a mistake, Officer Sarah. A huge one. And when you realize it—when you finally understand what you’re throwing away—” She took a shaky breath, her eyes glistening. “—don’t come crawling back because I won’t forgive you. Not after this.”

Sarah’s voice was ice-cold. “I don’t need your forgiveness. And I don’t need his help.” She finally looked up, her gaze locking onto me with a mix of betrayal and defiance. “I’ll pay you back for the hospital bill. Every last cent. I don’t like owing anyone anything.”

Marina let out a disbelieving scoff, throwing her hands up. “Oh, please! Like money is what this is about!” She stepped closer to Sarah, her voice dropping to a furious whisper. “You’re so blinded by your pride, you can’t even see when someone is trying to help you!”

Sarah’s eyes flashed. “I don’t need help.”

Marina’s laugh was bitter. “No? Then why are you in that wheelchair, huh? Why are your arms in casts? Why are you even alive right now?” She shook her head, her voice softening slightly, but the anger was still there, simmering beneath the surface. “You’re so busy pushing everyone away, you don’t even realize you’re drowning.”

Sarah didn’t respond. She just turned her head away, her throat working as she swallowed hard.

I didn’t stop Sarah as the nurse began wheeling her toward the door. I just stood there, watching as she was pushed out of the room, her back ramrod straight, her pride the only thing holding her upright.

The moment the door swung shut behind her, Marina turned to me, her expression crumpling. She threw her arms around me, hugging me tightly, her voice muffled against my chest.

“Husband, don’t be sad…” She pulled back just enough to look up at me, her eyes shining with unshed tears. “Once she finds out it wasn’t you… Once she knows the truth… she’ll come back to you. You’ll see.”

I reached up, pinching her nose playfully, a sly smile tugging at my lips. “What if I caused that accident?”

Marina didn’t flinch. She just studied my face, her own lips curling into a knowing smile. “I know my husband.” Her voice was soft but certain. “You’d never hurt a beautiful woman.”

I let out a low chuckle, my fingers tightening around Marina’s waist as I pulled her flush against me. My mouth crashed onto hers in a firm, possessive kiss, my tongue sweeping past her lips with a demanding hunger. She melted into me, her hands clutching at my shirt, her breath hitching as I deepened the kiss before finally pulling back.

My voice was a teasing growl, rough with amusement. “You’re a roundworm in my stomach, Marina.”

Then, my tone shifted, low and suggestive. “Let’s go. We should get back to what we were doing before we were so rudely interrupted.”

Marina’s blush deepened, her eyes darkening with anticipation. “Husband…” she murmured, her voice husky, “you’re impossible.”

I didn’t answer. Instead, I pinched her nipple through the fabric of her dress, my fingers twisting just enough to make her gasp.

“Aaaaaah—!” The sound tore from her lips, her back arching slightly, her breath coming in short, sharp pants.

I chuckled darkly, watching the way her chest rose and fell, the way her fingers dug into my arm for balance. “Good girl,” I murmured, my voice a velvet threat. “Save that for later.”

I turned and walked out of the hospital, Marina following close behind, her breath still unsteady, her body humming with anticipation.

Outside, we saw the nurse struggling to help Sarah into the backseat of a taxi. Sarah’s movements were stiff and awkward, her plastered arms making even the simplest task a battle. She refused the nurse’s help, her jaw set, her eyes burning with defiance as she finally managed to slide into the seat.

The taxi pulled away, and I watched it go, my expression unreadable.

Marina slipped her hand into mine, her fingers tracing small circles against my palm. “She’ll be back,” she murmured, more to herself than to me.

I didn’t respond. Instead, I flagged down a taxi of our own, helping Marina inside before sliding in beside her. The ride home was quiet, the air between us charged with unspoken promises. But halfway there, my phone buzzed in my pocket.

I pulled it out, glancing at the screen. Lorena.

I answered, my voice cool and professional. “Hello, Lorena”

Lorena’s voice was smooth and confident. “I’m at the coffee shop on 5th street. The contract’s ready. I want to sign it tonight.”

I glanced at Marina, who was watching me with curious eyes. “I’ll be there in ten.”

I hung up and leaned in, my lips brushing Marina’s ear as I whispered, “Change of plans, mi amor.” My voice was dark, promising.

“I need to meet Lorena. But when I come back…” My teeth grazed her earlobe, making her shiver. “Be ready. Because I won’t be leaving that asshole alone tonight.”

Marina’s breath hitched, her cheeks flushing crimson as she bit her lower lip. “Husband…” she whispered, her voice thready with desire.

I smirked, pressing one last, lingering kiss to her lips before sliding out of the taxi. “Be a good girl and wait for me.”

She nodded, her eyes dark with anticipation, her fingers clutching the seat as I shut the door.

I watched the taxi drive off before turning toward the coffee shop. The air was cool, but my blood was hot, my mind already shifting gears—from the raw, emotional chaos of the hospital to the cold, calculated business of the deal ahead.
