Chapter 261: Chapter 261
Damien’s POV

Blood filled my mouth.

Not mine. His.

I’d torn a chunk from Voss’s shoulder. Deep. Meaty. The kind of wound that wouldn’t heal fast.

He stumbled back. Snarling. But I saw the limp in his step. Saw how his left leg dragged.

Good.

We’d been fighting for what felt like hours. Moving through the forest. Away from the clearing. Away from witnesses.

Just him and me now. No rogues. No pack. Just two Alphas trying to kill each other.

And I was winning.

My wolf—Alex—surged forward. Silver-white fur matted with blood. Some mine. Most his.

Voss’s gray-brown wolf circled. His flanks heaving. Dozens of wounds covering his body. Torn flesh. Exposed muscle.

But he was still standing. Still fighting.

Still fucking smiling.

“Is that all you got, Nightshadow?” His voice was rough. Broken. But defiant.

I didn’t answer. Just lunged.

My jaws closed around his foreleg. Bone crunched. He screamed. Tried to shake me off.

I held on. Twisted. Felt something give way.

When I released him, he couldn’t put weight on that leg anymore.

Three legs now. Not four.

“You’re done,” I said. My voice more growl than words. “Submit or die.”

He laughed. Actually laughed. Blood bubbling from his mouth.

“Submit? To you?” He limped sideways. Putting a tree between us. “Never.”

“Then die.”

I charged. He dodged. Barely. His injured leg giving out. Sending him sprawling.

I was on him before he could recover. My jaws at his throat. One bite. That’s all it would take.

“Wait!” The word came out strangled. “Wait. Don’t you want to know?”

I paused. My teeth pressing into his flesh. Not breaking skin. Not yet.

“Know what?”

“About your wife.” His yellow eyes met mine. “About what we did to her.”

Everything inside me went cold. Then hot. Then something beyond rage.

“What did you do?” The words came out deadly quiet.

“You know what we did.” He grinned. Blood staining his teeth. “When we caught her at the border. Three years ago.”

My grip loosened slightly. Giving him room to talk.

Big mistake.

“She was so beautiful,” he continued. His voice almost dreamy. “That black fur. Those green eyes. We knew she was an Alpha’s mate immediately.”

“Stop talking.”

“She fought so hard.” He ignored me. “Scratched. Bit. Screamed. But there were too many of us.”

My vision tunneled. Red creeping in at the edges.

“We took turns holding her down.” His voice got softer. More intimate. “While the others—”

“Shut up.” My jaws clenched tighter. “Shut the fuck up.”

“Her wolf tried to protect her.” He kept going. Relentless. “That little brown wolf. What was her name? Ayla?”

Hearing him say her wolf’s name broke something in me.

“Ayla was so small.” Voss’s tone turned mocking. “So weak. She didn’t stand a chance against my wolves.”

“I’m going to kill you.” The words vibrated through my chest. “Slowly.”

“We surrounded her.” He was smiling now. Full teeth. “Backed her against a tree. She was snarling. Trying to look fierce.”

I couldn’t move. Couldn’t think. Could only listen to this monster describe—

“She died fast.” Disappointment colored his voice. “One of my wolves got her throat. Just ripped it right out. All that blood. All over the ground.”

“And your wife?” He tilted his head. “She felt it. Through their bond. Felt her wolf die. Felt that connection just—snap.”

He made a breaking motion with his good paw.

“She screamed so loud.” His voice turned thoughtful. “Not a wolf sound. Human. Raw. Like her soul was being torn apart.”

My entire body was shaking. Not from exhaustion. From rage. Pure. Absolute. Consuming rage.

“That’s when we really hurt her.” Voss continued. “When she was broken. Grieving. Couldn’t even fight back anymore.”

“Stop.” The word came out broken.

“Why?” His eyes glittered. “You wanted to know. So I’m telling you.”

“You’re lying.” But I knew he wasn’t. Knew that everything he was saying matched what Sera had told me. The parts she could remember. The parts she’d screamed about in nightmares.

“Am I?” He laughed again. “Then how do I know about the scar on her left shoulder? The one that looks like teeth marks?”

My vision went completely red.

“Or the way she curled up after.” His voice got quieter. More vicious. “Like a child. Whimpering. Begging us to stop.”

“I’m going to fucking kill you.” The words didn’t sound like me anymore. Didn’t sound human. Just animal. Pure predator.

“You want to know the best part?” He was still fucking smiling. “The absolute best part?”

I didn’t answer. Couldn’t. Too busy trying not to tear him apart right there.

“She kept saying a name.” Voss tilted his head. “Over and over. Even after we were done. Even when we left her there to die.”

He paused. Let the silence stretch.

“She kept calling for you.” His voice dropped. “Damien. Damien, please. Help me, Damien.”

Something inside me snapped. Actually snapped. Like a rope pulled too tight.

“But you didn’t come.” Voss’s smile widened. “Did you? You weren’t there. Couldn’t save her. Couldn’t protect her.”

“Just like you couldn’t protect your parents.”

The words hit like a physical blow.

I froze. “What?”

“Your parents.” He shifted slightly. Testing my grip. “You want to know how they really died?”

“Your father was strong.” Voss ignored me. “Stronger than you probably. Pure-blood Alpha. Silver eyes. The whole package.”

He knew too much. Details nobody outside the family should know.

“But my father was stronger.” Pride crept into his voice. “Stronger and smarter. He had a vision, you see. One pack. All territories united under one Alpha.”

“Your father was a rogue.”

“My father was a revolutionary.” The correction was sharp. “He saw what the packs had become. Weak. Divided. Fighting each other instead of ruling the humans.”

“So he started killing Alphas.” Voss continued. “One by one. Making it look like accidents. Car crashes. House fires. Random attacks.”

My chest felt tight. Too tight.

“He killed seven Alphas in five years.” There was admiration in his voice. “Seven. Including yours.”

“No.” The word barely made it out.

“Your father was his second kill.” Voss met my eyes. “Right after he took out the Alpha of the Northern pack.”

That was—

Sera’s pack. Sera’s father.

“He killed both our fathers.” The realization hit like a freight train. “He killed—”

“He would’ve united all the territories.” Voss’s voice turned bitter. “Would’ve created an empire. But he got sick.”

“He managed two Alphas before the sickness took him.” Disgust colored his tone. “Two. Out of dozens he’d planned.”

“But I’m not sick.” His yellow eyes glowed. “I’m strong. Healthy. And I’m going to finish what he started.”

“All I need to do is kill you.” He smiled. “One more Alpha down. One more territory claimed. And your pack—your warriors, your resources, your land—all mine.”

“And your family?” He tilted his head. “Well. They’ll need someone to take care of them. Someone strong. Someone worthy.”

The rage was back. Bigger. Hotter. Absolutely consuming.

“You think you can touch them?” My voice was barely recognizable. “You think you can go anywhere near them?”

“I think I already have.” His smile widened. “Three years ago. With your beautiful wife. And I’ll do it again. To her. To your daughter. To—”

I didn’t let him finish.

My jaws closed around his throat. Not biting. Not yet. Just holding.

“You’re never touching them again.” The words vibrated through my chest. Through him. “You’re never touching anyone again.”

“Because you’re going to die here.” I pressed harder. “In this forest. Alone. And nobody’s going to miss you.”

All the pain. All the suffering. My parents. Sera’s parents. What they did to Sera. What they wanted to do to my children.

All of it led back to this moment. This monster. This bastard who thought he could take everything from me.

“Your father failed.” I pressed harder. Felt his pulse hammering against my teeth. “And you failed. And that’s the legacy you’re going to leave. Failure.”

Voss’s eyes were wide now. The bravado gone. Replaced by genuine fear.

“Wait—” He choked. “Wait, I can—”

“No.” The word was final. “No more waiting. No more chances. No more anything.”

I thought about Sera. About her nightmares. About the way she’d flinch sometimes when I touched her. About the scars—physical and mental—that this bastard and his rogues had left.

I thought about my parents. About growing up without them. About believing they’d died in some random accident when really they’d been murdered. Targeted. Killed for someone’s sick vision of empire.

I thought about my children. About Adrian and Lily. About the future they deserved. Safe. Protected. Free from monsters like this.

And I knew what I had to do.

My muscles coiled. Ready.

This ended now. Here. Today.
