Chapter 241: Chapter 241
Seraphina’s POV
Jessica noticed me first. Her face lit up.
“Sera! Oh my God, have you heard?”
I walked closer. Set my coffee on a nearby bench. “Heard what?”
“About the Alpha!” Maya jumped in. Her eyes sparkling. “About his baby!”
My stomach dropped.
But I kept my face neutral. Carefully neutral. “What baby?”
The words came out steady. Calm. Like my entire world wasn’t tilting sideways.
“Emma’s baby!” Sophie practically squealed. “She’s pregnant! With Alpha Nightshadow’s baby!”
The training hall went fuzzy around the edges.
“What?” The word barely made it out.
“It’s true!” Another trainee—Riley—nodded enthusiastically. “My cousin saw her yesterday. At the grocery store in Millbrook.”
“Millbrook?” I forced myself to focus. To process. “That’s two hours from here.”
“I know, right? That’s where she’s been hiding!” Maya grabbed my arm. “Sera, you should see her. My cousin said her belly is huge. Like seven months pregnant huge.”
Seven months.
The timeline slammed into me like a freight train.
Seven months ago was… was right after that night. Right after the hotel.
“Are you sure?” My voice sounded strange. Distant. “Are you sure it was Emma?”
“Positive.” Riley pulled out her phone. Started scrolling. “My cousin sent me a picture. Look.”
She thrust the phone in my face.
And there she was.
Emma. Standing in a grocery store parking lot. One hand on a shopping cart. The other resting on her very obviously pregnant belly.
The image was grainy. Taken from a distance. But there was no mistaking that face. That perfect posture.
Or that massive, unmistakable baby bump.
“See?” Riley zoomed in. “That’s definitely her. And look how big she is!”
I stared at the screen. At Emma’s hand cradling her stomach. At the slight smile on her face.
She looked… content. Happy. Like someone carrying precious cargo.
“My cousin asked her about it,” Riley continued. Her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Asked if the baby was the Alpha’s.”
My throat closed completely.
“And?” Jessica leaned in. “What did she say?”
“She didn’t deny it!” Riley’s eyes were huge. “She just smiled. Like this knowing smile. And said ‘what do you think?'”
“Oh my God.” Sophie’s hand flew to her mouth. “That’s basically confirmation!”
“Right?” Maya nodded vigorously. “If it wasn’t his baby, she would’ve said so. But she didn’t. Which means it totally is.”
The trainees erupted into excited chatter. All talking over each other.
“I knew something was going on between them!”
“Remember how she was always at his house?”
“And the way he looked at her during that birthday party?”
“They’re probably going to announce it soon!”
“Do you think there’ll be a Luna ceremony?”
“There has to be! You can’t have the Alpha’s baby without being Luna!”
I stood there. Frozen. The phone still in front of my face. Emma’s pregnant belly filling the screen.
“Sera?” Jessica waved her hand. “You okay? You look pale.”
“I’m fine.” The lie came automatically.
“This is so exciting though!” Maya bounced on her toes. “The pack is going to have a new heir! And Emma will finally be Luna!”
“She deserves it,” Sophie added. “After everything she’s done for the Alpha. Taking care of his kids. Being there when…”
She trailed off. Glanced at me. Realized what she was about to say.
When his wife left. When I left.
“It makes sense,” Riley filled the awkward silence. “The Alpha needed someone stable. Someone present. And Emma was perfect.”
“Plus she’s so nice!” Maya gushed. “Remember how she always brought us cookies? And how she helped organize that charity drive?”
“She’s going to be an amazing Luna,” Jessica agreed. “The pack is lucky.”
More excited chatter. More speculation about wedding dates and baby names and whether it would be a boy or girl.
I couldn’t move. Couldn’t speak. Couldn’t do anything except stare at that photo.
Seven months pregnant.
Which meant she got pregnant right around… right around that night at the hotel.
The night Damien claimed he couldn’t remember. The night he swore nothing happened. The night he said he’d been drugged and set up.
But here was Emma. Visibly, undeniably pregnant. Seven months along.
The math was simple. Brutal. Undeniable.
“I bet the Alpha’s been hiding her to keep her safe,” Sophie was saying. “You know how protective he is. Probably didn’t want anyone bothering her during the pregnancy.”
“Smart,” Maya agreed. “Keep her away from pack politics. Let her focus on the baby.”
“And then boom!” Riley clapped her hands. “Once the baby’s born, big announcement. Luna ceremony. The whole thing.”
“It’s so romantic,” someone sighed.
Romantic.
The word echoed in my head.
My husband. Getting another woman pregnant. Hiding her away for months. Planning a future with her.
While I lived in my tiny apartment. While I pretended to be fine. While I split custody of our children and tried to rebuild some semblance of a life.
“Sera?” Jessica touched my arm. “Seriously, are you okay? You look like you’re going to throw up.”
“I’m fine.” I handed back Riley’s phone. My hand was shaking. “Just… surprised. I didn’t know.”
“Nobody knew!” Maya said. “That’s what makes it so exciting! The Alpha kept it totally secret!”
“Very romantic,” Sophie agreed dreamily. “Like he wanted to protect her from gossip.”
I made it to my office. Closed the door. Locked it.
Then I stood there. Back pressed against the wood. Breathing hard.
Seven months pregnant.
Emma was seven months pregnant with Damien’s baby.
And now the entire pack was celebrating. Excited about their new heir. Their new Luna. Their Alpha’s happy future.
While I stood here like an idiot. The abandoned wife. The pathetic fool who’d actually believed his lies.
Proof of his betrayal. Permanent. Undeniable.
And what then? Would he marry her? Make her Luna? Move her into the house where I used to live?
Would my children have a new mother? Would Adrian and Lily call her mom? Would they prefer her because she was present and stable and not broken?
The thoughts spiraled. Faster and faster.
I couldn’t breathe.
