Married To The Mad Vampire Lord - Chapter 542
Chapter 542: A family_Part 1
His voice lowered, as he added, “Perhaps one day… he will walk right back to you.” He wanted to reassure her, to give her something to hold on to, yet he was careful not to reveal that there was still a chance Rav could be cured. What if that chance never worked through?
She slowly raised her head to look up at him. “I never thought you would be the one saying this, but… do you believe fate works in such a way?” She sniffed, then used the back of her hand to wipe at her face.
Rohan gave a nod. “He didn’t die. We didn’t kill him, nor did you see him die. He just ran out of the castle. Angel believes he would be back, and so do I. Hope, I hear, is like prayer in some ways. Keep hoping and… loving him.”
Evenly knew everything was absurd and silly, hoping for someone who was hundreds of miles away and a rogue to come back, but she couldn’t help it. His words sparked something inside her, and she found herself nodding. “I will hold on to the hope and love. Thank you.” She said it with gratitude, not just for this but for the smiling portrait of Rav he had given her.
“It’s nothing. About my wife, where is she?” he asked. “I couldn’t find her anywhere in the cottage.”
“She’s not in the cottage. She and Angel and Rosey went to the new building. They said they wanted to see the progress of the interior decoration and settings. I guess they are still there.”
Rohan nodded, thanking her before he turned on his heels and dashed with speed toward their new mansion, where the building and roof and fencing were completed, and only painting and ceilings were being in progress.
He passed through the new shining iron gate and ran into the house, where there were workers moving around the place carrying tools. He didn’t need to ask around as he opened his link and connected to his son, who told him where they were, but also said,
“Something is wrong with Mama.”
They were on the top floor in one of the unfinished bedrooms. Rohan, panicked and restless, was there in the blink of an eye. He entered to find his wife lying down on the bare floor, with Angel sitting next to her holding his sister, whose eyes looked as worried as Rohan felt in his heart.
Rosey turned to look at him, then as if she thought he hadn’t seen their mother lying on the floor, she pointed with her tiny index finger at her, as if to tell him something was wrong.
“Papa,” Angel said as he looked up at their father, and Rohan touched both his hands to their heads before he went down on his knees beside his wife, who looked peaceful, like someone who was sleeping, her chest rising and falling softly in sleep. He cuddled her head and pillowed it on his thighs.
“Sweetheart?” he whispered softly, caressing her hair to her warm cheeks.
“She’s just sleeping, Papa. She was in pain and holding her stomach. I figured she needed to rest, so I helped her lay down here and held Rosey so she wouldn’t disturb her. I didn’t want to worry you or Enny, so I took care of her. She’s fine now.” He assured him, releasing his sister, who was struggling to move away and go to their father the moment he entered.
Rohan looked at his son, unable to put into words how much the boy made his heart feel strange and warm whenever he took charge of things and acted mature. Opening one arm, he enclosed Rosey, who toddled toward him with candy-sticky hands and mouth. He held her to his chest as he said to his son, “You did a good job,” he praised, reaching out to ruffle his hair.
Angel tried to hide a smile at his father’s praise as he muttered, “I didn’t do much, I just put her to sleep and rest.”
“That’s still a good job, Max. For how long has she been sleeping now?” Rohan asked, looking down at his wife, feeling more relieved that she was only sleeping. With his other hand, he used his handkerchief to wipe at the slimy, sticky candy on Rosey’s mouth, as she tried to climb onto his lap, right where Belle’s head was resting, but he held her back.
“Not long, almost an hour. Rosey, don’t sit on Mama’s head,” Angel chided, standing up and moving to carry his sister so she wouldn’t hurt their mother, since she only wanted to sit on their father’s lap. She was still young and unable to understand that it wasn’t the right time to try to climb onto their papa’s thigh, which would eventually lead to her asking to be carried up onto his neck and taken out to play. Sometimes she played far too much, Angel thought, holding her away from Rohan while gently chiding her.
“Do you not see Mama is sleeping? Be a good girl, and I will fly with you in the evening to go and see the waterfall we saw yesterday.” He said, and Rosey’s hazel eyes brightened like she understood him, her chubby cheeks curving up in a smile.
Rohan watched his children while he stroked his hand against Belle’s hair. When he saw that Angel had calmed his sister from her play mood, he patted for him to sit next to him.
“Do you also wish that your mother remembers our life before?” Rohan asked.
Angel didn’t even hesitate to nod. “Yes, but it does look like she can’t remember anymore. I don’t mind if she doesn’t remember, but there are days I wish she does when I have things to talk about with her.”
“I have found a way to help her. Look,” Rohan brought out the shining ball in his palm and showed it to their son, who looked curiously at it, examining it with a concentrated frown.
“Where did you get that? I can hear faint voices from within it.” He looked at his father.
“Your… your grandfather gave it to me to put inside her. They hold some memories. Should we put it now so she wakes up with memories?” Rohan asked, looking down at his wife’s face.
“Grandfather? The demon who looks like you?” he asked with surprised eyes, as the last time he recalled, his father didn’t like the demon and had warned him not to let him get to him.
Rohan gave a curt nod without saying anything, and Angel said, “I didn’t like him so much before, but when he came that time to remove bullets from your back, I saw a different side to him. I guess Grandfather has decided to be good.” Angel said with a shrug and then looked back at the ball thing. “Let’s put it in and give Mama back her memories. It will be real good to have her wake up remembering everything.”
