Chapter 524: The past_Part 2
She felt his intense eyes on her as she moved around, but Belle was now determined to ignore him. It was only when she had finished stopping the bleeding and was standing up to remove the bloody sheet and torn shirt that she felt warm fingers wrap around her wrist, pulling her gently back down to sit on the rug.
Rohan tilted his head to the side to look up at her blank, displeased face. He knew she was upset that he had gone out when he should have been resting. He hadn’t told her about it because he knew she wouldn’t have allowed him to go, and what had taken him out was so important he couldn’t postpone it for another day.
He didn’t want to disappoint his son, who had requested something and asked for his help this evening, and there were also the other matters regarding their future that had required him to leave the house. Still, he hadn’t expected Belle to be this displeased, which was why he decided to soften her up first before talking to her about the matters of their future that had taken him out.
Her small hand was freezing, as she had dipped them into water to clean him, the skin wrinkled from the cold. He rubbed his warm palm against hers to warm it up, and when that didn’t work, he brought her freezing cold hand to his mouth, cupping it between both of his hands and blowing warm air over her fingers. She jerked slightly at the feel of his breath against her skin, but he held on until her eyes finally lowered to meet his.
“I am sorry,” Rohan whispered, pressing kisses onto each of her fingers without looking away from her face. When she didn’t say anything and kept looking at him with that blank, displeased expression, with only the faint warmth on her cheeks betraying how he affected her, he gently pried her fingers apart. Still watching her, he parted his lips and took two of her fingers into his mouth.
Belle’s eyes widened, and she immediately wanted to pull back as heat rushed through her the moment his mouth closed around her index and middle fingers. His teeth grazed her skin in a light scrape, and his tongue moved against her in slow, warm strokes, wet and intimate. The sensation shot straight through her body, making her want to recoil, but he held her hand firmly, lightly biting down on her fingers before licking across them again with soft, hot pressure.
He slowly drew her fingers out of his mouth, doing it in a way that made it feel like he didn’t want to let go, like he wanted to keep her on his tongue a little longer. A liquid warmth slid down her stomach and settled between her thighs, making her toes curl. She became painfully aware of the dampness gathering there and the throbbing in her core.
“I said I am sorry,” he rasped, his voice low and rough as he took her other fingers into his mouth, licking slowly to warm them. His tongue dragged along the pads of her fingertips, leaving a thin, hot trail of his saliva that glistened before he leaned in and licked it off again.
The wet heat of his mouth made her acutely aware of every movement he made, every breath he drew, and the intensity of his gaze pinning her in place as he did that to her fingers. She felt like she couldn’t breathe properly, couldn’t think properly, and it seemed that if she didn’t speak, he would continue to seduce her in the same relentless way.
Belle parted her lips to finally say, “Your wounds are not something small to take lightly… It took so much effort to keep them clean and for them to even start healing. I told you not to move around recklessly, to avoid reopening them. Where did you go that couldn’t be postponed until you are well?” she asked, her displeasure returning as she tried to comprehend where he had sneaked off to in the night without considering the state of his wounds or the effort she had put into tending them.
She was already feeling doubt and uncertainty about their relationship, questioning many things because of her lost memories. Seeing him slip back into the room through the window didn’t help calm her overactive mind. Could it be that he went out to_
As if reading where her thoughts were going, Rohan’s grip on her hand tightened. “I didn’t sneak out to meet any woman, my love. Don’t let your thoughts go there.” he clicked his tongue.
The flush on Belle’s cheeks deepened, and she yanked her hand back, clearing her throat. “I didn’t say that,” she said defensively, not wanting him to see the insecurities that were creeping into her mind.
“You didn’t say it, but your thoughts are betraying you, darling,” Rohan murmured, a small curve at the corner of his lips as he reached for her hand again. “Lay down next to me, and I’ll tell you where I went.” He tugged gently, urging her to lie on the rug, and after a moment of hesitation, she obeyed, resting her head on a bent elbow.
Rohan adjusted his head on the rug, pressing his cheek to it with his head turned sideways toward her. He pulled her closer until he could feel her breath fanning his face.
He smiled gently and reached out to touch her cheek, creasing it tenderly. “Do you know what, Isa?” he asked huskily, and she shook her head quietly, unnerved by his closeness but yet unable to move away as she wanted to hear what he had to say.
“Without your memories, the real you, the you who hasn’t been forced to hide her emotions and feelings by her parents, has surfaced. You got angry at me just now, when in the past you would never show anger because you were used to hiding it. You even demanded to know where I was. That’s new, my heart,” Rohan said, remembering how in the past she would never have confronted him with such fiery hazel eyes, asking about where he had been.
Belle’s lips pursed as she asked softly, “Were my parents… that bad?”
“Let’s say it’s best you don’t remember them or try to know everything,” he whispered, his fingers trailing down to cup her neck, gently caressing the soft skin with his thumb.
As much as he had destroyed Aragonia and caused its people to lose their land, he had not killed her family, not because he thought they didn’t deserve it for everything they’d done to Belle in the past, but because without them she wouldn’t have existed again for him to meet and marry in this lifetime.
He had stripped them of their house and wealth, just like many of the nobles, but he hadn’t taken their lives. For people who had lived all their years buried in luxury, a life of poverty was a fate far worse than death.
Belle, though she didn’t know her parents, felt a shiver of understanding that it was best not to push herself to remember or even question what they had been like. Her mind immediately returned to the matter at hand, and her displeasure resurfaced. “Where did you go?” she demanded again, before he could redirect her thoughts.
Rohan, who saw the glare in her eyes and how adamant she was about knowing where he had gone, clicked his tongue and pinched the tip of her pink nose before telling her half the truth of where he had gone. “I went to check if our fortune was secured and to get enough blood in my stomach. Happy now, my love?”
He leaned closer to peck her lips, but Belle drew her head back, confused because she didn’t understand what he meant by checking their fortune.
“Our fortune? What do you mean?” she asked, curious and somewhat relieved that he hadn’t gone out to do anything that would have broken the feeling her heart was slowly regaining for him, even though she didn’t remember the past feelings she had once held for him.
Rohan’s hand slid away from her face, moved over her arm, and then settled on the curve of her waist as he spoke. “It might be hard for you to understand, but I will explain it as much as you would like,” he said, and seeing how attentive and curious she looked, he added, “Let’s start with me telling you about our life before you lost your memories. Do you want to hear that?” he questioned, looking into her eyes, and Belle nodded her head.
She had wanted to hear about their life before, and though Evenly had only filled her in on the part of her romance with her husband, Belle was aware many things had happened, dangerous things that had made her fall into such a state without memories, and her husband carry bullet wounds, not to mention the scar on Angel’s upper arm and Roseline’s unusual voice whenever she cried.
“Let’s see… where should I start from?” Rohan hummed, looking thoughtful.
“Start from how we first met,” Belle said, to which Rohan smiled.
