Chapter 521: Proud father_Part 2
Rohan then took Angel’s hand and made a small cut on his palm. Angel did not even flinch this time, unlike when the baby had been cut. Red blood oozed from his palm, and Rohan positioned it to fall into the cut on the baby’s chest.

Immediately, three drops fell into the cut. A faint light glimmered from it, and the baby began to bleed from the wound. Her tiny hands twitched, along with her legs, before her head turned from side to side and her mouth opened in a loud cry that made Angel’s eyes widen in surprise. A big grin then spread across his face.

“She’s back!” he exclaimed, clapping his hands together.

Rohan smiled, relieved and glad that the knowledge he had stored in the past had come in handy in saving Rav’s daughter. He couldn’t help but think that had he never known Belle as Astral or met Kuhn, he would have remained ignorant about many things about the world one crossed into after death. If only this method could save every dying person, they would have used it on his wife, and her memories would have been saved by now. But it only worked on those who fell into the frozen state before their eventual death.

And it mostly happened with sick people, Rohan thought, as he wiped the blood from the baby’s tiny chest and tied a handkerchief around it to stop the bleeding while gently coaxing her loud cries.

Angel, grinning happily, said, “She cries way louder than Rosey, Papa.”

Rohan chuckled softly. “She does,” he said, carefully putting the girl over his shoulder before standing. “Let’s take her to her mother.”

Angel quickly stopped his father before he could step out of the room. “Papa, what we did to save the baby… can it be done on someone who has turned, like the way Uncle Rav once turned when he bit my arm?”

Rohan turned to look at his son with narrowed eyes, but Angel met his gaze steadily, waiting expectantly. The hopeful look made Rohan immediately suspicious of why his son was suddenly asking this now, and he belatedly recalled how the boy had taken longer than expected to reach the castle door earlier that morning. The thought struck him. Could it be that he had encountered Rav in his rogue form? Rohan wondered.

Nonetheless, he answered his son’s question. “No, it can’t be done. If it could, I would have suggested it for Rav. Corruption is the worst disease for a vampire, son. It affects and targets the heart and blood. Only a new heart can purify a corrupted body and wash away the bad blood caused by the corruption. No man has mastered the act of changing someone’s heart. Perhaps someone might in the future, but in our day and age, no one can. They let the vampires rot or kill them to save them the misery, as there is no other way to help them.”

Rohan gave him the full explanation to make sure the boy understood the severity of corruption. If Belle had not taken his heart from the land of the dead years ago and restored it to his body, cleansing the corruption that had begun to eat through him, he too would have eventually rotted away as a rogue forever. If there had been even the smallest chance of curing Rav’s corruption, Rohan would have done it without hesitation. But with each passing day after turning rogue, the body became worse, decaying from the inside out until it was as good as dead. The sooner Angel let go of the hope that he could somehow cure Rav, the easier it would be for him to accept that Rav was truly gone.

Despite everything he was told, Angel absorbed the information but did not feel discouraged from what he had promised to do. “Papa, when I grow up, I want to be a doctor who masters the act of changing hearts. I will help many people overcome corruption.” It was more a vow than words spoken by a little boy. Angel had just discovered what he wanted to be, and seeing the resolve in his eyes, Rohan had no doubt that his son would be the first to master this act of treatment.

However, for now, he still wanted his boy to be a boy, to enjoy his childhood, even though there was little joy to be found after all the things he had seen and experienced in life.

“Max,” Rohan called, and Angel instantly looked up at him. “Yes, Papa?”

A faint smile touched Rohan’s face. “Have I ever told you how proud you make me feel?”

Angel shook his head with a grin stretching wide across his handsome, young face, and Rohan let out a soft chuckle. “I am proud of you,” he said warmly. “You did well today, going out there to bring Lady Evenly and her twins.” As he spoke, the memory of his own childhood flickered through him, the longing he once had for even a scrap of praise from his parents, praise that had never come. His son deserved every word he hadn’t received. And seeing Angel’s eyes brighten even more made Rohan’s chest feel strangely full.

“Papa,” Angel declared with earnest determination, “when I become big like you, I will make you even more proud, both you and Mama. I will do many good things and give people back their papas and mamas.” It was a vow spoken with the absolute sincerity of a child who believed kindness could mend the whole world.

Rohan reached out and tapped his son’s chin lightly. “You don’t have to do anything for me,” he said. “Do it for yourself, as long as it makes you happy. I will be proud of whatever it is you choose to do, little rascal.”

They held each other’s gaze for a quiet moment, Angel grinning like he had the best father in the world, and Rohan smiling faintly, quietly battling the thought that he didn’t deserve a boy this good when he himself had never been a good man in any way. For a heartbeat, the world felt small, warm, and safe around them.

I am glad you are becoming nothing like me, son. Be you and do whatever it is that makes you happy. Live, laugh, love freely and experience the world in a way I never did.

The spell broke when the baby’s needy cries pierced through the air, pulling both father and son back to the moment.

“I think she’s hungry, papa.” Angel muttered, his eyes going to the baby in his father’s arms.

“She is. Before she blows out my eardrums, let’s get her to her mother,” Rohan said, as the baby’s cries grew louder than any of his own children and were beginning to hurt his ears. By hell, he needed to get back to bed before he swarmed and collapsed face-first to the ground, because his back hurt in a way nothing had before.
