Chapter 504: Home_Part 1
After speaking to Ereves and hearing what the demon had told him, Rohan changed the direction of the portal back to the castle instead of the mountain. If what Ereves told him was true, Rohan knew he wouldn’t be able to do this alone without his children, who he was suddenly anxious to meet after leaving them for days.

Rohan didn’t let his mind wander off to places yet, and he didn’t even dare to hope that Belle was back until he would see her. But as much as he was in a hurry to meet her, he would have to be careful, knowing she had no memories anymore. According to what Ereves had told him, she had almost been perished, which had washed her soul of every memory. Though they managed to save her, they couldn’t save her memories.

Memories make a person, and he couldn’t help but get scared that she might never actually remember who he was. Ereves, that bastard, had told him to not scare her, as she was in a fragile, confused state, not knowing who she was or even remembering her name until the demon had told her.

‘I know you are anxious to see the girl, but I won’t advise you to go alone. Go with those kids. I told her she will be meeting her family soon.’

Ereves had expected for Rohan to thank him, but of course Rohan hadn’t and had walked away from his world with a passive expression. He didn’t think he would ever forgive the demon for everything he had done and put him through. If it wasn’t because of him, he wouldn’t have lost Isa. Rohan removed the thought of the demon from his mind for now as his thoughts went back to his wife and the children he had not seen in awhile.

His heart rose with the anticipation to go to her, but if Belle were to ever regain her memories and discovered he had put himself first before their children, she would be disappointed in him after the promise he had made. Angel missed her as much as he did, and going there together would not only help her meet them together but also cure his son’s broken heart.

He walked into the empty castle where dead bodies were still in the hall, but he barely paid attention to them as he went straight to the underground house with his palms sweaty. Should he tell Angel that his mother was back, or should he let them find it out together once they reached the cottage? Not until he saw her himself did he think his heart, that had gone through the heartbreak of losing her, would heal. The memories of her death was still fresh in his mind like it had happened a second ago.

Even before Rohan reached the underground space, he could hear the loud cries of his daughter that filled the air, but she was soon quietened down, only for another baby’s cries he didn’t recognize to rise.

Even before he opened the door to step in, Angel had come to stand in front of it, holding and rocking a baby that wasn’t his sister, a smile on his face when Rohan had expected anguish and sorrow.

“Hello, papa,” he greeted with a soft smile.

Angel looked to have grown four heads taller than the last time Rohan had seen him, and Rohan found himself staring at a face so much like his. The shape of his face had changed from the baby roundness to a more defined, mature shape, with a slightly sharpened jawline.

“Hello, son.” Rohan replied to his greetings, reaching a hand out to ruffled his tousled hair.

“Papa, I had a feeling Mama is back. I dreamt of her and felt her returning. Are you here to take us to her?” Angel asked, still rocking the red-haired baby in his arms and looking up at his father with a hopeful look mixed with fears of being told what he felt was nothing but his head making up things.

When reviving happens in the land of the dead, something that rarely took place, every being connected to the land of the dead feels the pull. It seemed Angel, who still had some connections to it, had felt it, and with the deep connection he had shared with his mother even before he was born, he knew it was her, and he had been expecting to see his father since then.

The days the disaster had been going on, Angel had sensed death upon death, but he had not felt bad, for they had taken his mother away from him, and if it wasn’t for his sister, he would have gone out to rage.

“My Lord,” called Evenly, who had been nursing Belle’s daughter before the duke’s arrival but now pushed to her feet, holding the baby in one arm and her own son in the other while Angel held her daughter.

Taking care of three newborns was one of the hardest things in her entire life, for while she fed one, another would start to cry. It was why she shared them with Angel, who had been helpful in caring for all of them.

The day Angel had walked in here crying and holding a baby, saying that his mother was gone, Evenly hadn’t had herself. She had cried until there were no more tears, as it seemed she kept losing the people close to her, and everything was happening without her recovering from one.

Before she was told Belle was dead, Evenly had still clung to the hope and belief that there might still be a chance of Rav being saved. He had only turned rogue, not died. They could search for him once the duke and Belle returned. That had been the only thing that had kept her so steady until Belle’s death news reached her, and along with the hope of saving her man, her heart had died.

Everything had become so much that Evenly would have really shut down, but the only thing that set her back was the fact that she had four children to look after, two of hers and two of her best friend’s. It was with a pained heart and sorrowful mind that she kept herself going, nursing the three babies and keeping Angel from going rogue from his grief by constantly feeding him blood.

But this morning Angel had come to her telling her his mother was back, that he could feel it in him. Evenly had started to believe the boy had fallen into a state of his grief where his mind would make up things to give him peace. Seeing the smile on his face as he told her that, she had been forced to agree with him that his mother was back, just to keep him from being overwhelmed by his emotions.

To be honest, she had not taken his words seriously, not even when he told her that she would see that his papa would come for them to take them to Belle. But who would have thought the duke would indeed come?

She walked toward him, holding the two babies. “My Lord… is it true that she’s back?” Her voice sounded hoarse even to her own ears, and she cleared it as she stared at the duke in his bloodstained shirt and haggard-looking face with sunken eyes. He looked as though he had lost so much weight, and his bronze complexion appeared a little too pale.

It seemed everyone had gone through their share of grief and pain. The world itself had gone through it, and nothing would ever be the same for many people who had lost their loved ones, especially her, who, every moment of the day, she moved and woke up with a lump choking her throat.

Rohan glanced down at his daughter in Evenly’s arms as he nodded his head, feeling suddenly ashamed of how he had burdened the vampiress with his own responsibilities when she had her own to carry and worry about. It was strange how, just a day ago, he had been unable to feel sympathy or compassion for another being, as only his own loss had choked him and left him unable to think of anything else. But now everything was slowly coming back, every feeling he had pushed aside, at the thought that his wife was back and breathing in the same world as him again.

“She is waiting at the cottage. I will take them to see her together,” he said, reaching out to take Roseline, who was already sleeping, from her arms into his. She made a small noise and nestled into his hold. He felt his heart carry the first swell of warmth again, a warmth he had lacked for days. She was so small and fragile that he held her with the care of a man holding a fragile piece of porcelain.

Evenly stepped back now with her son in hand, happy for the duke and for her friend’s return but unable to feel that happiness completely, as she still hurt.

“She cries a lot, even when I feed her. I guess she figures I am not her mother. Also, she loses her voice once in a while as it turns hoarse and cracked. She scares me, and I am glad she will finally get to see Belle,” she informed him, telling him what she had noticed about Roseline.

“I am also glad. About her voice, it must be because she was born in a toxic air, with the smoke of explosives everywhere. Once we settle down, I will figure out the right medicines for her,” he said, his eyes never leaving the baby, still unable to believe how she could look so identical to her mother. Isa would be happy to see you, my princess.

Rohan finally looked away from his sleeping daughter. “Congratulations, Lady Evenly, on the twins,” he said as his gaze went to the baby in her arms and the one in his son’s arms. “I am sorry about Rav…” he added, already knowing the vampire had turned completely the moment their link had been severed. He saw the vampiress’s eyes well with tears at his words, and she quickly tried to wipe them off, but more fell anyway.

“Does your apology mean…I will never get him back? …have I really lost him for good?” Evenly choked, biting her lower lip and looking up at him with pained eyes. I need my Christian with me. He needs to see our babies, he needs to be by my side while I name them. Please don’t tell me you can’t help, please give me something to hold onto. Please…
