Chapter 499: Destruction_Part 4
“I told you Isabelle was my home. She gave me life, not you. If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t even have an offspring to try to force or bend to your will!”
Rohan kept hitting the demon. If he couldn’t kill him, he would hurt him.
Through the anger, Rohan kept hitting the creature as he spoke the words of his heart, words about how Belle had given him a second chance at life when she was a reaper, and that it was because of her he still breathed now. “…she gave me life. She was my everything, but because of you, she is no more.” Rohan finally released his sire and fell to his knees, bent his head, and began to cry all over again.
The demon king, who until now had never understood how Rohan had come back to life after his heart was removed many years ago, realized in that moment that it had been because of the human. Though he had known her as the dead girl, it was not because he possessed full knowledge of what she truly was, but because she carried the air of death and his precious vision ball had labeled her as someone who should not be alive. That was how he knew she was no ordinary living person. But to hear now that she had once become a reaper and was the reason Rohan came back to life…
His power, strong as it was, did not extend past the mortal world. He could not see into the lands of the dead, could not witness punishments or bargains that took place there to even know what the girl did whenever she went there in her sleep. To be honest, he didn’t care about the girl as she was the reason his offspring became weak in the mind and heart. All he had wanted to do was to send her back to live with the dead where she belonged but she had returned time and again until now.
He had never known the girl was undergoing punishment. He had never known the exact story of what she had done for this boy to love her that much to the point he cried for her.
The demon king reached out his hands and pulled the rod from his stomach. The wound closed immediately as the flesh knitted itself back together. He watched his offspring, who had been crying just awhile ago, rise back to his feet and say,
“Since I cannot kill you… and you have always wanted me to come to your damn world, then I will stay. My powers seem stronger here. It will be easier to do everything from here.”
Before the demon king could ask what he meant, the boy had already stood fully and was looking around him and taking in the blackened grounds. It was true, every demon grew stronger at home, but he had never expected Rohan to know how to channel that power, let alone use it well. Yet the boy surprised him again, this time by using his illusion abilities.
Rohan created his own vision ball, a swirling large circle through which he could watch the happenings in the mortal world. It was similar to the demon king’s vision orb, only Rohan made a much larger one, on each side, a living window to each kingdom, displaying their activities in real time. He watched the world through the vision with his dark eyes reflecting the light.
“What are you planning to do?” asked the demon king, noticing Rohan tracing fire circles with his fingers.
“Burn down everyone and send them to the land of the dead. I will destroy every order of the death until they send me back my wife.”
“You know they cannot send back someone who is already dead, don’t you?” remarked the king, wariness in his voice as he saw the boy manipulating the visions, sending flames directly through them into the kingdoms. If the boy were to stay in the demon world for a few more years, he would come to know many things, and his powers might even grow stronger than those of the king himself.
Rohan’s eyes grew even darker as he responded, “Then there’s no need for anyone else to live. Not until I have her back. The world will burn. And if you know what’s good for you, don’t stand in my way. Stay away from me for as long as I am here.”
It didn’t take long for the entire land to fall into disaster and to feel the full wrath of Rohan Dagon. One kingdom was consumed by lava, and another was going through rogue attacks, as Rohan had used his full demon abilities to send rogues through portals into the human lands, and another kingdom went through an earthquake where fire blazed out from the ground. Soon the number of deaths increased so drastically that the reapers could no longer work anymore in carrying souls back into the land of the dead, for there were too many, and the orders were being destroyed.
The war was soon forgotten, as vampires and humans alike now fought to survive such distaste and destruction instead of fighting each other.
While this went on, the demon king became restless, for if there was no mortal world, the dark demon world would never thrive, since demons were known to feed on minds and manipulate and lure humans into the dark side of the world. If Rohan killed them all, it would be the end for his world.
“Droot,” Ereves called to the little creature, who was currently assigned by Rohan to keep an eye on his children through the king’s ball and report to him if anything threatened them in the underground house. The little creature, who now fully realized that Rohan was far more formidable than his king in this state, had quietly switched loyalties and was doing exactly as he was told without a single complaint. Hearing his king call for him now only made him slightly annoyed.
“I am busy babysitting, your greatness. I’m watching over children, and I can’t do whatever you want unless his greatness Rohan says so,” came Droot’s tiny, dismissive words to his master. “Greatness Rohan knows I can be helpful and gives me this important work, unlike someone who kicks me whenever I make suggestions. No more ‘Droot do this, Droot do that.’ Greatness Rohan’s children are my new assigned work now.”
Ereves stared at his companion, who had seemed to grow two heads because he believed Rohan would protect him, but then the king had other things weighing more heavily in his head to take offense at the creature’s words. He let his eyes settle on his grandchildren through the ball.
The children were doing all right, where the little boy was watching over his sister, though the light in his eyes had died just like his father and he looked to have suddenly grew more.
“About your stupid advice, Droot… if I use my connection to help him get back the girl, do you think my last seed will see me in a different light?” asked the king as he watched Angel through the ball. Angel held his newborn sister against his small shoulder, singing softly to her. But the song he sang seemed to remind him of the dead girl, because his voice trembled, and he hugged the baby closer as silent tears slipped down his cheeks, but he quickly wiped them away with his sleeve.
Though Ereves would have liked it better without the dead girl in their life, as it would wake up their dark sides and make them become better demons who don’t get ruled by emotions, Ereves knew that would do nothing but kill his world further, as his offspring was already hellbent on destroying the world for her sake. Demons can’t live and thrive without humans to manipulate.
He needed to stop his offspring, and the only way to do so was to bring back that girl, even though he hated the idea. But then he had thought through it for hours and realized the only way to mend things with the boy was to bring back his wife. Who knows, if this Droot knew what he spoke about, about getting close to the boy in another way, it might be the action that would mend their bridge. Would the boy see him in a new light if he brought back his woman?
The Droot, upon hearing what the king said, finally turned away from the ball and hopped on the table so he could look up at his master. “Your greatness is finally going to follow my advice and do things differently?” he asked.
Ereves crossed his large arms against his broad chest as he looked at the small creature with lazy eyes. “Did I stutter when I first talked? Get your tiny legs down from there and come and help me dress to meet an old friend. It’s high time I meet those lazy fuckers anyway.”
The Droot hopped down from the table with a victory laugh. “As your greatness pleases!”
