Chapter 498: Destruction_Part 3
Rohan stepped into the demon world through the portal, a place he had never been before and had never even known how one would enter in the first place. The passageway inside the portal carried an unusual heat, the kind that would have burned a normal human alive, yet it only licked at his skin as he moved through it. The scorching air twisted around him until the portal finally released him into the dark tower, where his sire stood waiting with a smile playing on his face, as though delighted that Rohan had finally come to meet him in person.

Ereves was as tall as Rohan, with broad shoulders and a face almost identical to his. His dark blue hair was long, falling past his shoulders in loose waves. Two curled horns rose from his head, slightly crooked to one side as he studied Rohan with a calm, assessing look. Rohan studied him back with dead eyes that held a silent, simmering rage and resentment.

“Welcome home, young—” The words didn’t finish in the demon king’s mouth before Rohan moved with his vampire speed and slammed his clenched fist against the creature’s face.

The blow was so strong that Ereves was thrown miles away from Rohan, who moved again, reaching to grab him, but the king, who was a pure demon with old powers and immense strength, teleported and appeared behind Rohan.

“I can see you are not here to stay but to kill me,” remarked the demon from behind, but Rohan moved with the speed of light. He twisted around and slammed all his weight against the demon. They both went crashing through the broken window of the tower, plummeting down the long height together.

The demon king, who relied on teleportation to avoid things, attempted to shift away, as he didn’t want to suffer the harm of falling with Rohan’s weight from such a height. But to his surprise, he realized he couldn’t shift. Then it dawned on him: Rohan’s claws had driven deep into both his shoulders, forcing his demon body from teleporting. When a demon’s flesh got pierced or impaled by something, the object prevented them from shifting until it was removed. The demon king looked up at the furious, glowing dark eyes of his offspring.

“I see you know about our kind enough to be able to stop me from moving,” he said, feeling the harsh wind tearing at their falling bodies. And even before Rohan could say anything, the demon king’s back hit the uneven ground of the ruined world with Rohan’s full weight pinning him down. The impact created a deep dent in the ground, and both of them sank into it.

Without giving him a chance to recover from the fall, Rohan yanked out one clawed hand from the demon’s shoulder and began using that hand to strike him repeatedly in the face, while keeping his other hand buried deep in the demon’s shoulder to stop him from escaping.

“I will fucking kill you! It was all your fault I lost her! You selfish bastard!” Rohan spat, every word soaked with fury and heartbreak. He hit the creature with every ounce of strength he had, each blow sinking them deeper into the dent formed from their fall. “I told you I would fucking bury you a hundred feet underground if I found her hurt, but you all killed her for me! You killed my heart!!”

The more he spoke, the harder his blows became, and the demon king, who had never been beaten in his life, not even once, couldn’t speak. Blood spread across his face and mouth; he felt the crack of his nose breaking, and he realized he had to stop the boy before he truly killed him.

The demon king moved his hands, trying to block the blow aimed at his face, but Rohan’s strength, fueled by grief, made him strong enough to slam and break the demon’s hand with a single merciless hit. It was then the demon realized that his offspring truly intended to end him.

Ereves decided to use his own powers. He managed to move and struck Rohan’s chest with a force that knocked him off and sent him falling backward, but Rohan caught himself, flipped in the air, and landed behind the king. He grabbed the demon by the neck, but Ereves fought back, using his fists to slam against Rohan’s forearms, forcing him to release his hold on his throat.

The Droot, who had made his way down from the tower, watched as the two powerful beings clashed. One was trying to avoid the killing blows, while the other was determined to kill without hesitation. Their strengths were equally terrifying, and the Droot was certain that if the king wanted to kill his son, he could do so easily… but the son could also kill his father with how he was fighting.

Rohan pulled out two long thick rods from the ground of the ruins and rushed after the demon, who kept teleporting and dodging him. But Rohan’s eyes locked on him, calculating exactly where he would appear next. Then he moved with his own speed and thrust the rod straight into his stomach.

It happened so fast that even the demon king didn’t see it coming until he was impaled and forced to remain in one place. Damn it. The boy was stronger than he had ever imagined and frighteningly educated about how to kill his kind… thought the demon king. He saw the murderous look in Rohan’s dark eyes as the boy moved to finish him off by raising the rod with an attempt to remove his head, but the demon quickly spoke.

“You don’t want to do that, son,” he warned.

“I AM NOT YOUR FUCKING SON!” Rohan roared, bringing the rod down to kill the demon, but something small leaped in front of the rod, blocking and diverting it away from the demon king’s head.

Rohan’s eyes snapped to the little creature that had leaped forward and used its strength to push his attack away from the king.

“If you kill his greatness, you shall die as well, your highness!” the Droot cried, scrambling to hide behind the king when Rohan’s murderous eyes turned on him after the interception. The small creature trembled in fear.

“The more reason I will kill him!” Rohan gritted, grabbing the rod again. He didn’t care whether he lived or died. A world without his wife was nothing but misery and nothing worth living.

“If I die, my entire bloodline will die with me. We are all connected in a way, boy. Not just you and I, but your little ones as well,” the demon king said, spitting blood from his mouth. Yet even if his words reached Rohan, they didn’t slow him or stop him down; he still grabbed the rod and swirled to attack. The king hurriedly added,

“She trusted you to watch over those kids. Are you going to kill them yourself now by killing me? You are my last seed. You are connected to me more than you know it. Killing me is the same as killing yourself and every creature that carries your blood.”

The demon world was a complex world, where pure demons were linked to their offsprings by life itself. Just like how vampires had their ranks, demons had theirs too, purebloods and mixed ones. But the purebloods were not born; they simply came into existence, the way trees appear on earth, a few demons have come to exist that way. The demon king was one of the oldest demons to ever live on earth and from the beginning of time itself.

He had come into being with forty other pure demons, both male and female. But because he was the strongest among them, he was crowned king, their leader. The rest mated with one another and created offsprings, and that was how their world had been built.

Many who died during the hellfire rain perished because their sires, the pure demons, had been killed. Without their sire, an offspring could not survive. Offsprings could die without harming their sire, but if the sire died, everyone connected to them was dragged into death with them. That was what had happened to their world.

Now, if he were to die, he would also take his own offsprings with him.

Rohan’s hand, which had lifted the rod to strike, immediately stopped at those words. He remembered the promise he had made to Belle, that he would be a good father, that he would protect their children. He recalled the eyes of his son and daughter, and his fingers tightened around the rod until the iron bent into half.

“You fucking bastard,” Rohan gritted. “You knew all along that I wouldn’t be able to kill you if I knew this, so you hurt her for me. You caused her death. You selfish, rotten creature. You never loved or knew how it felt to be loved. You robbed me of that by killing her…”

Rohan stared at the demon with hatred burning in his eyes, wishing he had no children to consider, wishing with everything in him that he could kill this selfish creature.

“I never intended to kill her. I just wanted to use her to make you come back home. I just—”

“You shut the fuck up, you hear me! Your words smell!” Rohan roared, moving and slamming his fist against the creature’s face. “You never meant to kill her, and yet you plotted with someone you knew disliked her! You took her to a dangerous place!”

He hit him again, his voice breaking with rage and grief. He had found Cordelia dead in her cell when he went to finish her off, and the regret burned through him like acid, he hadn’t even been the one to end her. And now he couldn’t kill this fucker either.

“I told you Isabelle was my home. She gave me life, not you. If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t even have an offspring to try to force or bend to your will!”

Rohan kept hitting the demon. If he couldn’t kill him, he would hurt him.
