Chapter 497: Destruction_Part 2
Days after Belle’s death in Aragonia, the people of Aragonia, who were unaware that they had poked a sleeping beast, had just received the news that their troops had successfully made it into Nightbrook. This news was sent directly to the king, who was currently sitting with the duke and other officials in the courtroom, all of whom roared in victory.
“We were able to protect our borders from the vampires, and currently the fight is still going on,” reported the messenger to the king. But despite the good news he was delivering, he looked slightly nervous for some reason, and one of the officials who noticed this asked,
“What’s wrong? This news calls for a celebration. In no time we will take over Nightbrook and put a human ruler there to stop the vampires’ existence. Why do you look like it’s not something good?” asked the man to the messenger, causing the rest to also notice the messenger’s nervous look.
“Actually, sire… this message was written many days ago by the commander and has only just arrived in Aragonia. It was delayed on the way here as the border was blocked. There is no new update about the progress of the war, but we have just received new information that something unusual is happening in many other lands. Bimmerville has been attacked by strange creatures, with fire coming out from the ground. Novaria is said to have been swallowed by lava yesterday, with thousands of deaths…” The messenger went on to report the disasters happening in many neighboring kingdoms, and Aragonia was the only one that hadn’t been hit yet.
Everyone listened with frowns on their faces.
“What do you mean? What is the cause of all these happenings?” asked the king as murmuring broke out among the officials.
“It hasn’t been known yet. But people who have heard of it are saying that the world has been cursed. I suggest, Your Majesty, that we—” The messenger started to speak, but his words were cut off as the ground suddenly began to shake. The floor split open, and the walls cracked all the way up to the ceiling. There was a thunderous sound that made everyone fall to the ground as it seemed the palace was about to collapse on them. The king crawled under his throne chair, and the officials ran under the tables in panic.
But just when they believed the building would collapse on them, everything went silent, causing them to look around in confused alarm.
“What was that? Has the disaster reached us?” asked one of the officials as he peeked out from under the table.
As they began to relax that the building wouldn’t come down on them and crawl out of their hiding places, the opening on the ground cracked again, becoming bigger. Suddenly fire blazed out of it, engulfing everything around. In no time, Aragonia began to burn, houses breaking down and collapsing to the ground like earthquake.
Few days ago, before the disaster hit the world…
A figure could be seen walking through Grimvale Forest with two refills in his hands, his broad shoulders set in determination and his long legs moving toward the danger zone where every vampire in Nightbrook knew not to go, as they were aware that side of the forest had been infested by rogues. However, this person had nothing to lose nor did he hold any fear for what lay in that part of the forest. He walked with the wind blowing fiercely against his dark-blue hair.
His footsteps were so silent that even the rogues laying low and waiting for their meal couldn’t hear them. When he reached the middle of the danger zone, both hands that held the refills moved skyward, and then he fired them. The sound of the gun in that silent part of the forest echoed like thunder, and immediately after the sound went off, around every corner of the forest the rogues, who had rotten to the point they had lost their eyesight but not their hearing, came awake and began to rush in the direction, bumping and hitting each other to get there.
Rohan stayed where he was after firing the refill, and he watched as the leaves and trees moved and rustled as the savages began to run toward him. That’s right, come to me… it’s high time you all have meals, he thought as he looked at the swarm of rogues. It was only when they came closer to him that he opened his wings and moved skyward, leading the creatures in the direction he wanted them to go by firing the guns several times more.
They followed him out of the danger zone.
Meanwhile, the war went on in full blow without any of them knowing what was coming for them. The humans were gaining the upper hand with the troops and weapons they had built to kill the entire night creatures. The war wasn’t only happening in Nightbrook, but in the other human lands the vampires had sent their troops to invade beforehand.
The human troops had already made their way into the land from the border and were currently fighting off the vampire troops inside their lands. The human troops were divided into sections, and while some troops were fighting, some were strategizing the next attack.
The human army commander leading the strategizing troops was standing with them and organizing the next cannon fire to set the houses on fire when he thought he heard something. He raised his head with a frown on his face.
“What’s that?” he asked his soldiers, who were standing around him waiting for his command on their next attack.
One of the soldiers strained his ear to hear what the commander was trying to listen to and then replied, “War cries and footsteps. It must be the vampires panicking and running away with their tails between their legs upon seeing us come into their land. We have lost more than thousands of men because of those large creatures they breed for protection, but we have managed to kill many of them, Commander. It’s natural for them to run now, knowing we are coming into their towns and cities to kill them all.”
The soldiers began to laugh at those words, believing the sounds they were hearing were the vampires running away. However, the commander glared at them, and they all shut up.
“If it’s the vampires running away, why is the sound coming in this direction?” he asked. But before any of them could even think about why the sound seemed to be coming closer to them, they perceived one of the foulest smells any of them had ever breathed. The odor rose thick in the air, making them begin to close their noses.
They were currently standing on a road path that had Grimvale Forest and bushes on either side, the forest everyone knew was the most enormous in the vampire lands, and from both sides, they heard the sounds of rustling leaves and bushes. They didn’t even have time to prepare their weapons when they were swarmed by hungry rogues.
Their screams rose into the sky and mixed with the sounds of their guns being fired at creatures who couldn’t be killed that way.
In no time at all, Nightbrook was under rogue attack. Humans were killed and eaten, some vampires were turned, and the rogues increased in numbers and went savage on everyone. The chaos erupted so suddenly that none of the human soldiers saw it coming.
Rohan watched from above as all this was happening, but still not satisfied with it, he made a ball of flames in his hands. It glowed and grew bigger the more he thought about the way his wife had been killed, and with a loud cry, he released the flames on soldiers and people being attacked by the rogues. The flames moved like they had a life of their own, leeching onto men and burning them alive.
Rohan moved around throwing flames against houses, against anything. It didn’t end there, for he didn’t feel satisfied. They had killed his wife, and everyone would die with her, every single person. His own pain became nonexistent as he moved destroying Nightbrook.
The elders had forced his wife to become someone who killed for them and brought back souls. They wanted souls, and he would give them souls, so many that there would be none left for them to take from the world, there would be none left to make the land of the dead thrive.
When the grief only seemed to be growing inside him, Rohan landed on the ground as he opened the link that connected to the demon.
“I want to come home. Show me how to get there,” said Rohan with a calm voice to his sire.
“It’s in you, young one. You can open the portal and walk home at anytime you want,” answered the demon, who knew what had happened and what was currently eating away at his offspring’s heart.
Had this been under normal circumstances, Rohan would have been clueless and asked what the demon meant, but he had fallen into the mood of destruction and self-destruction. He closed his eyes and let his demon instinct lead him. He raised his hand and swiped it, and the air rippled in front of him before a black opening formed, like the surface of water being played with by hands in a circle.
Without hesitation, Rohan stepped into the circle, and it closed behind him.
In the demon world, the demon king stood at his tower with his hands held behind his back, while his companion Droot panicked behind him at the thought that Rohan was coming.
“Your greatness, you shouldn’t have let him come in that state! He has just lost that woman and is killing everyone in his path!” the Droot cried out, pacing the place fearfully, for he had just seen in the ball of vision how Rohan was killing and destroying Nightbrook. Their own world had already been destroyed; they didn’t need more destruction here.
But even if the demon king knew that, he was nonchalant about everything and remained standing there.
“It’s high time he comes back home.”
