Married To The Mad Vampire Lord - Chapter 493
Chapter 493: The promise
“Anything for you, my heart. Anything, as long as you won’t leave me here,” he murmured, clutching her hand between both of his because he couldn’t hold her body anymore, not when she was in so much pain and her blood had pooled around her, soaking into the ground, into his knees, into everything around them.
“I can’t promise to stay, Rohan, even though… I want to.” She whispered through the intense pain that seemed to be eating inside her body, and then she asked her favor before she would be taken away. “Can you lift the baby and tell me what gender it is? I want… to know.”
Rohan finally looked away from her eyes to the whimpering little being clutched against her chest with her other hand, her blood already soaking through the fabric around the baby. Eager to please her and to grant her any wish, Rohan released her hand and slowly lowered his hand to the small infant that hiccuped and began to cry as he lifted it up and cuddled it in one of his trembling arms.
Belle watched him move the fabric wrapped around the baby’s entire body to reveal first the small head with strands of blonde hair, which made Rohan pause to look at the face that emerged from beneath the cloth.
The baby’s eyes were wide open, and they were hazel and as clear as his wife’s, with a small button nose and her pink little mouth where the tongue peeked out to suck on the tiny fist rubbing aggressively against the lips. The hazel eyes stared at him without blinking, and they flashed between black and hazel, holding him spellbound in eyes that looked like Belle’s and his at the same time. They were round and the most innocent, adorable eyes in the world, and he felt his throat tighten as he whispered,
“It’s a girl, and she has your eyes and face, my love.”
He turned to look at Belle watching him with teary eyes, but she laughed at his words and remarked,
“And there… you have your princess. You wanted her to be a girl… and we got a girl.”
Though Belle tried to sound light, her heart was breaking into a million pieces at the brutal realization that she wouldn’t be in the girl’s life nor in her family’s anymore. After everything she had done and tried, in the end she would still be the dead girl, only now it would be worse than death, for she wouldn’t even have a soul to be given another chance.
How fate could be so cruel…
Belle bit her lower lip to hold in her cries. It hurt so much; not only was her heart breaking, her inside was burning, and she could feel her time drawing away as the reaper was preparing its scythe.
“Rohan… can you promise me something?” Belle asked, her breathing sounding hollowed now.
Rohan, still holding the baby who had now gripped his index finger in her little hand, watched his wife, who was waiting for him to give his answer. Even until now, as he saw her bleeding to her death, nothing felt real to Rohan. Even though the moment was happening, it felt almost like a dream, a very bad dream he wanted to wake up from. He wanted to stop and stop unveiling in this cruel way.
“Anything for you… my love.” He grabbed her hand, which was turning cold, and interlocked their fingers again.
“I want you to promise me…” Belle groaned in pain. “That when I am no longer in your life… you’d take care of our children and be there for them. Don’t neglect… any of them, Rohan. Love and care for them like you would when I am there…”
“Don’t say that, Isa. Don’t talk like you will never be in our life. Every time I lose you, you always find a way back to me. Remember? I lose you… I always think I will never see you again, but in the end you wake up and hug me and apologize. I won’t scold you for scaring my heart, I won’t say anything, my love. Just fight and return to me. We will take care of our children together and love them. We will go away to the mountains and live our life there like we planned. I will expand our cottage along with Rav and build all the things you told me you want. Isa…”
Rohan’s words trailed off as he noticed how his words were making her cry, with her lips quivering uncontrollably and her breathing coming out forcefully, her shoulders trembling.
“Isa… will I really lose you this time around?” he asked, his tears falling and his hand gripping hers so tight he knew it might hurt, but he couldn’t control it.
“Promise me, Rohan… I need to know you won’t let them hate you… you need to be strong for them…” Belle breathed, coughing out blood from her mouth and nose this time around as she forced the words out of her.
“Isa, I don’t want to promise because I want you to be beside me. Please don’t go. Don’t leave…” Rohan gritted, reaching out to clean the blood coming out of her mouth with the knuckles of the hand that still held hers.
“Promise me…” Her voice grew faint, and she looked into his eyes. If this was her last moment, she wanted to die knowing her children would be in safe hands with their father. Rohan never went back on his promises; he never forgot the words he gave to her. If he made this promise, he would stick by it.
“Promise me, Rohan…” she insisted, her words coming with the choking sounds of the blood in her throat.
Though it tore at his very heart and everything inside him, Rohan groaned out the promise. “I promise. I promise you, Isa. Will that make you come back?”
I would come back to you if I had a chance. I would come back to you a million times again, my love. Her thoughts trembled inside her as her fading gaze clung to him. But my chances are over. My life…is over. I want to stay with you all. I want to be with you and our children…
“Thank you, Rohan. For everything…” Belle smiled, her eyes turning towards the gloomy sky that began to turn blurry and distant in her eyes. Before everything faded, she let memories play out in her head. She saw the first time she first laid eyes on Rohan as a reaper, and then when she was a little girl, then when they were getting married in Aragonia.
The memories of them living a simple life in the cottage. I wish I could go back in time to that moment… I wish there was nothing like death… I wish…
The images of Rohan from every single memory played in her head, the moments he gave her things she never thought she wanted or needed, Rohan telling her he loved her, Rohan smiling and laughing with her, and then she saw her son. The innocent eyes of Angel and how much it would hurt him to know he’d lost his mother.
My poor little boy, Belle thought, as her body began shutting down and Rohan’s cries and words turned distant with each passing second. Her dying heart ached for the daughter she would never get to know.
“Roseline…” The words left her mouth. “Call… her… Roseli…” The rest of the words didn’t leave her mouth as the blurry sky faded into darkness.
Rohan watched as the life left her body and her eyes stared lifelessly at the sky, and everything inside him went still. Even his very heart seemed to stop beating.
