Chapter 463: Suspicious_Part 3
Rohan stared at his son for a moment and then pulled him into his arms again, patting his back gently. One thing was for certain, whenever Angel got words mixed up, he never denied it when it was found out he made a mistake. But him denying it now, Rohan knew the boy was telling the truth.

“What else has Mama done which she doesn’t do before, little rascal?” Rohan asked quietly, rubbing his back.

“Mama always kiss me on the cheek and head when I sleep, but Mama not kiss me anymore or tell me she loves me. Mama always teach me to write and how to have manners, but Mama no want to teach me anymore. She say she is tired, and I go to the servant. Mama also tell me every day that Uncle Rav and Enny are bad and servant, and Angel put them in their place if Angel want Mama to like him…” Angel began to list many things she said, and the more Rohan heard, the more his eyes turned hard.

“But I like Uncle Rav and Enny real much and can’t call them servant or useless like Mama say I call them. Enny worry for me, but Mama say she not like me and is bad…”

After that day when they had gone to Groovestill, he had not sat with his wife for long. He barely even stayed at home to notice all these things Angel was saying, and the more he heard them, the more he was starting to believe something was indeed not right here. Though she looked the same to him, smelled the same, and the rhythm of her heartbeat was the same, something was wrong with his Isa.

“Papa… is Mama not well?” Angel asked as he pushed away from his father’s embrace to look at his face with a worried expression. He knew his Mama like the back of his hand, but he also knew his mother was acting unlike herself now. Every time he tried to see through her to read her heart, Angel was unable to do it and was met with a block.

He always read his Mama’s heart, which was why he looked at her closely whenever he had the chance, as he was unable to do so.

Rohan, not knowing for sure what was wrong, could only tell his son softly, “No. But don’t worry, I’ll find out what’s wrong with her. Whatever she teaches you, if it doesn’t feel right in your heart, don’t follow it or do it. Do what your heart believes to be right, and remember the things she taught you before now.” As he spoke, he used his gloved finger to gently wipe away the tears from his son’s flushed cheeks.

Angel’s sad face brightened a little. He nodded earnestly and placed a small hand over his chest. “My heart feels that Rav and Enny are good, and I love them. My heart also says Mama is not being Mama again.”

Rohan’s expression darkened slightly. His son could sense it too, just as he could. That meant the child’s instincts weren’t wrong. The unease in Rohan’s heart was real, and it was warning him that something was deeply amiss.

“Let’s clean you up and change your clothes.” Rohan ruffled Angel’s hair, hiding his thoughts from his son until he found out what was happening.

—-

While Rohan was bathing his son and making calculating plans in his head, in the bedroom where Cordelia sat another person appeared, scolding her.

“You little fool!” grated the demon king, who had appeared in the room.

Cordelia, who was grinning to herself, thinking she had handled everything without Rohan suspecting her, turned to the demon king. He just had to come and ruin her mood again!

“What did I do?” she glared at him from where she was sitting on the couch, sipping the tea the servant had brought.

“What you did was teach the little boy things his real mother wouldn’t, and you even went as far as to harm him after I warned you not to cause him any harm!” he snapped, furious, trying to remain in the shadows that not only concealed him but hid his scent. Though he had given her this position to get a child who he would use to build his world, he would not tolerate anyone hurting one of his own, especially someone who might one day take a different path from his father.

“I didn’t do anything wrong. That useless human didn’t raise her son right, and I am trying to right her wrongs and teach him the best way to treat those beneath him, but he keeps going against it. And his eyes, don’t even get me started on those annoying eyes. I don’t want him near me,” she hissed back at the shadowed man.

The demon king let out a dry laugh. “Continue that way, and you will lose your head. Just so you know, I just saved your damned, selfish self from being taken as a hostage for the war in that form. Get on my nerves again, and see where you’ll find yourself.”

Cordelia’s eyes widened. “Taken as a hostage?!” she hissed, almost forgetting that piece of information she’d heard months ago. Now that she was pretending to be the human, it would be her life in danger. The last thing Cordelia wanted was to lose her life when all she was trying to do was put it in order and find her own place.

“Are they still planning to take her as a hostage?” she asked, her face betraying her nervousness.

“Not if I can stop it. You’re under my protection until you’ve had the child I want. How has the progress been, regarding the child?” he questioned.

Cordelia sighed in relief at finally having someone protecting her, but her lips soon tightened as she answered, “Well, it’s not in my hands to force him to bed me. He barely stays at the castle, always coming and going, and when he does return, he doesn’t come to bed. He just sits in the chair watching me sleep.”

The demon king didn’t like the sound of that, not after putting everything into this plan and using his powers daily to maintain the illusion.

“I’ll give you a month. Get him to bed with you. Stop being a damn brat and act the way the real Belle would act. The next time I come here, I want to hear good news that you have slept together, or I will make your life miserable long before Rohan does.” He disappeared from the room.

Cordelia tightened her fingers around the small teacup. Did he think being in her cousin’s presence was that simple? And did he think she would lower herself completely just to act like that piece of nobody, Isabelle? She was already trying her damnedest here!

But then, he was right, the sooner she got Rohan to bed, the faster this demon would back off and offer her more protection. Furthermore, having his child would allow her to secure a place in Rohan’s life even when things fell apart. She had never thought of him as someone who cared about other people, but she had witnessed firsthand how deeply he cared for that brat of a son.
