Chapter 457: Deceitful_Part 2
“No sad,” Angel replied brightly.

Rohan nodded his head before he bent to kiss Belle’s forehead and then reached for his coat that had his name on it, the one she had given him, but he noticed it wasn’t on her body anymore. Rohan didn’t think too much of it and believed it had been taken out with the dirty laundry while he was gone to get the doctor.

He tucked her in with one hand while holding Angel with the other, then left the room as she closed her eyes to sleep.

Outside, Rohan found Rav and the doctor waiting. “I need to leave. Take Angel to stay with you so he won’t wake his mother,” Rohan said as he handed his son to the vampire. But Angel shook his head and slid down from Rohan’s arms to stand on his feet, his head dipped low and his hands thrust into his pockets as he said,

“No, papa. Mama not want me to be with servants. Rav is servant. Mama will be mad if I stay with servants.”

Rohan narrowed his eyes at his son and bent to his height. “Who gave you that idea, Angel?”

Angel shrugged. “Mama told me he is servant, not uncle.” He muttered, giving Rav a side-eye before staring down at his bare toes with pinkish nails.

Rohan arched a brow, but then, realizing how Angel normally twisted words in a way his young brain understood them and not the way they were spoken, thought this was one of those moments. Belle wouldn’t have said those words to him, because she indeed saw Rav as family and treated him like one.

Rohan lifted his son’s chin to make him look at him. “That’s not true, little rascal. Rav is not a servant. We will talk about this when I return with Mama there, hmm?”

Angel shrugged again without saying anything. Rohan leaned in to kiss his head before straightening up. “Let me know if she wakes up, Rav.” Rohan said, and hurried out of the castle in a run.

After Rohan left, Rav stepped forward to carry the young master, but Angel looked up at him and gestured for Rav to come closer. Rav frowned but leaned down.

“I’ll call you uncle when Mama’s not there because Papa says I can and papa say Rav is not servant. But Mama will be mad if I do. Will you keep the secret so I can say uncle when mama not there?”

Rav, who didn’t want to upset the lady for any reason when he depended on her to give him a cure for his corruption, shook his head.

“You don’t have to call me uncle. Rav is fine, young master. Listen to your Mama.” He said quietly as he reached out and held the boy’s hand to lead him away like Rohan had instructed.

Rav was hurt by what the lady had said, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized she wasn’t actually wrong at all. Still… the Lady Belle he knew would never have spoken to anyone like that. He had expected his master to notice something was wrong with his wife and point it out, but she had acted absolutely normal with the master there.

It was confusing. The stern woman who had put him sharply in his place just moments ago seemed to vanish the instant Rohan appeared. She had smiled softly at her husband, her voice gentle as though nothing had happened at all.

If anything truly had been wrong, Rohan would have sensed it immediately. His abilities were beyond anything a normal vampire possessed. That could only mean one thing: nothing was wrong with her… except that she had simply decided to remind Rav of his place in the most unexpected way.

Rav only hoped that this sudden change in attitude wouldn’t affect the promise she made him, the promise to cure him of the corruption. If she took it back now, everything he had hoped would collapse. He had already planned so much with Evenly. He had dared to imagine a peaceful future, even begun thinking of the home he would build for them once they reached the mountains Rohan promised. Building was the one skill he took pride in before he was turned into a vampire, the one thing he could give her. He had promised to build it in a way she wouldn’t think she was living in a small home but a mini mansion.

If the lady withdrew her kindness now, after he had come this far… Rav’s heart tightened with fear. He swallowed hard, praying silently that she would keep her word.

Back inside the chamber, after sensing that everyone was gone, the sleeping Belle peeked open one eye and then sat up on the bed, grinning to herself as she stretched her arms above her head and then brought them down to slap her rounded belly.

“Fucking fake pregnancy. It’s so annoying to be her,” she muttered in irritation as she punched at the bulging belly in anger, but she stopped when she felt a presence appear in the room, causing her to look toward the shadowed side of the room to ask the person standing there,

“How did I do?”

“Terrible,” chided the demon king. “The real Isabelle would not have talked to the vampire like that or treat her son the way you did, and if you continue that habit, he will soon catch up on the lies even without my illusion breaking. Rohan and his boy are smarter than you, woman, so watch your words and behavior next time or I will be forced to snap you neck and get another candidate for the position.”

Cordelia’s smile fell as she tried not to glare at the shadowed man who had helped her make this possible. Though she hated that Rohan would only be close to her in this illusion form of his wife, she didn’t care, as very soon she would influence him to like her ideas of a life that he would forget about that nobody he loved.

“I can’t stand that servant. He has dared to insult me before, and whenever I set eyes on him, I just want to put him in his place.” She sneered, referring to Rav.

“Whatever personal feelings you have toward the people here, I don’t care how you handle it as long as you don’t mess with my plans. I will kill you myself before Rohan does if you let the illusion crack with your behavior. I am using almost all of my energy to keep him and the little boy from sensing the difference, so don’t make my efforts go to waste. Get him to bed with you as soon as possible and make a child,” he ordered, then added, “Don’t forget our contract clause, you are not to hurt the little boy in any way; act like a mother to him.”

Saying that, the demon king disappeared from the room, leaving Cordelia gritting her teeth.

She grabbed a pillow and threw it across the room in the direction the creature had disappeared from. She hated anyone commanding her or telling her what to do, but she had gone on and signed a contract with the demon and couldn’t back out unless she gave him Rohan’s child.

For months he had made her study the life of Belle to see how she acted and treated the people around her, but as much as Cordelia could tolerate the little boy because he had Rohan’s blood in him, she couldn’t tolerate that servant, Rav, and that Evenly.

Oh, before she finished with this, she would put them all in their places. She would have to be subtle and not risk being noticed by Rohan or that boy of his who looked at her like he could see through her. And his human wife. A smile finally came to Cordelia’s face at the thought of Belle.

Though the demon had told her that she must not kill the human while taking her place, Cordelia wouldn’t even have to kill her with her own hands, the stupid human might end up hating her life enough she would end it.

‘A perfect time to make her pay. Bitch thought I was bluffing when I told her I don’t let my enemies go, let’s see her survive this.’ Cordelia felt her mood lift and she left the bed, going to retrieve the pillow she had tossed away before throwing herself back onto the bed, planning to sleep knowing she was finally taking care of her enemies and she wouldn’t have to see that stupid Josh’s face for now.

He could look for her for all she cared, she wasn’t leaving this life until she had what she wanted all along. To be the queen of Nightbrook, and only Rohan could make that possible.
