Chapter 451: “Who is the father?”
“You said you will make it possible for me to have Rohan for myself. What is this you are showing me?! It’s been months now, and all you make me do is watch them when I could ruin that bitch by telling the king that she has a son and is currently pregnant with another one! What is your plan?!” Cordelia yelled as she turned angry eyes to the demon standing in the dark shadows of her chamber, his magic item giving her the view of the people she despised being happy.
“My plan is simple, vampire,” the demon king drawled with a smirk. “I told you to study their life and become accustomed to how the human behaves and what she does. Only when you are done will I grant you what you want. Don’t you want to be his wife?”
Cordelia’s sheathing anger subsided at his question. Of course she wanted to be Rohan’s wife, but seeing him happy with that human was far more than she could stomach every day. If this creature who had suddenly appeared in her house hadn’t promised her the impossible, now would have been the perfect time to ruin the human.
Everyone in Nightbrook knew the Duke was never supposed to have a child, especially a male child who could give him a rightful claim to the throne. The other princes were still struggling to have male heirs, and Rohan having one would mean losing not just the child, but his title, his position, and even his wife, because he had already agreed never to father a child.
Not many knew of the signed contract before the marriage but Cordelia had known because she had been close to the royals then and her father hadn’t lost everything he had to his name. She could ruin that human with this information.
But this creature had promised her that he would help her get what she wanted, on one condition: she must never speak a word of this to anyone, especially the vampire king.
Cordelia was already fed up with Josh, especially after that day they returned from the market and he was beaten to a pulp by a mere turned vampire. He had humiliated her in public along with those nobodies. If he had been her own kind or even half as strong as her second cousin, she wouldn’t have been mocked and made fun of.
Word had spread far into the elite towns that she was beaten by a turned vampire while she was a pureblood. Until now she couldn’t set foot outside town because of the shame. Getting defeated by someone lower than you in the vampire world was an insult that wouldn’t easily go away. Such humiliation couldn’t be forgiven nor forgotten.
She had looked for and thought of many ways to make them pay for insulting her, but every way seemed impossible because a part of her feared Rohan would interfere and decide to deal with her because she hurt his stupid human. That was until this creature came to her.
“I will grant you your greatest desire if you agree to something I want from you,” he had told her.
Cordelia knew a dangerous person when she set eyes on one, and this creature, whose face she couldn’t see as he always stood in the shadows and insisted she turn down every light in the room, was someone she couldn’t mess with. It gave her a thrill because she liked dangerous people standing on her side against the world.
“What is it you want from me?” Cordelia had asked then, and he had laughed, saying, “It’s something so small compared to the big wish I will grant you. You want to be with Rohan Dagon, don’t you?”
Those words were enough to make Cordelia give him all her attention. “Who are you?”
“It doesn’t matter, vampire. Are you willing to make a deal with me?” he asked, bringing out a sheet of contract paper and holding it up for her to see. “A contract will seal our deal.”
Cordelia arched a brow as she eyed the paper that glowed in the shadows and then looked at him. “I am not foolish, you know. I won’t sign a contract without knowing what I am getting from it. Spill out your deal and show me the proof you have the powers to grant my wishes.” She crossed her arms against her chest, but he surprised her by laughing and then nodding.
“Sure. I can show you what I can do.” He smirked from within the shadows. Had she been human, his sudden presence in her room would have scared her senseless. But Cordelia had no heart and not a single spark of fear in her bones.
She waited for him to prove it, and he indeed did, only not in the way she expected. One moment she was standing, waiting for him to show her something; the next, her own hands were moving against her will, strangling her throat and choking her. Her eyes widened as she realized immediately that the man was controlling her movement with some kind of power!
She almost choked to death before he released her from the spell. She fell back coughing, eyes wide and red. “Wh-what are you?!”
“Your master, if you do well in serving and following orders,” the demon king had said simply before he began to explain what he wanted, even before she could tell him she was nobody’s servant.
“Your wishes and mine are not so far apart, woman. You want Rohan, and I want his offsprings. I will let you have him, but you will have to sign in our contract that the children you will have with him will belong to me.”
Cordelia, still trying to catch her breath, eyed the shadow cautiously. She didn’t care about any children. She didn’t even like children and had no plans of having one, but if this person could grant her the wish of being with Rohan, Cordelia would play along with him until she got what she wanted. She could give anything to have a leash of control over a man like Rohan. With Rohan, she still had the chance of becoming a queen because, with her ambition and determination, she would find a way to make him king.
“Is that all you want?” she’d asked, rubbing her sore neck.
“That’s all I want. His offsprings.”
“And how are you going to make him like me enough to make a child?” she questioned.
“Simple. I have the powers to control people,” the demon king said as he snapped his fingers and his round marble ball appeared on a table in the room. In it came the view of the castle, Belle combing Angel’s hair and the boy looking through a storybook until she finished. He then turned, standing on the stool to kiss her cheek as he said,
“I love you, Mama!”
“Mama?” Cordelia, who’d seen the scene and heard the words, frowned. “That boy is her son?! Who is the father then?” she demanded. And even before the demon king could answer her, Rohan came into the scene and Angel called out,
“Papa, see! Mama do my hair like your own!”
“Rohan is his father?” She almost screamed out the words as she couldn’t believe it. Since when had they had the boy for him to grow like this? To think she had mistaken him for that Evenly’s son when they met!
