Chapter 424: The fight_Part 5
Around them, people began to gather even more, their voices rising in excited chatter. None of them intervened to stop the fight. They just watched, eager for a bit of chaos to liven their boring day, treating the fight as if it were some kind of entertainment, especially when many had been in a bad mood at the thought of war against humans with weapons to kill them. Furthermore, Mr. Clifton was human while Rav a vampire, and no matter the position of one in society, the vampires would stand by their kind, and so they didn’t interfere in the fight since the human was the one getting hit.
“This is for every foul word you ever spat at her!” Rav said as his open palm cracked across Josh’s cheek in a slap. “And this, this is for every single slap you ever dared to lay on her!” His hands swung without restraint, striking Josh’s face left and right, each hit echoing with the weight of his resentment towards the man for what he did to someone as nice as Evenly. He didn’t care about the consequences, not in this moment. All he wanted was to avenge her.
Cordelia, who had been standing there with her perfect hair and beautiful face, stiffened as the reality of the scene unfolded before her. Watching her partner get beaten to a pulp by a mere servant was more than her pride could take.
“Rav, let go of him this instant!” She commanded, but her command fell on deaf ears, for Rav didn’t stop or listen to her.
Being a pureblood vampire, she was used to commanding everyone below her, and when her words weren’t being heard, she decided to step in and not stand aside while a human-born dared to defy her.
Cordelia stepped forward to deal with Rav herself.
Before she could make her move, her head jerked back sharply, her hair had been grabbed from behind.
And Belle’s hand was fisted in those silky strands. She had been silently studying the vampiress from the beginning, noticing how it was obvious she was the one to plant the idea in Josh’s mind about Angel being his son. From what she knew about the vampiress, she was good at things like that, not to mention the smile on her face when Josh was insulting his former wife.
Noticing how she wanted to intervene in the fight and would likely hurt Rav, Belle had acted quickly and pulled the first part her hand touched on the vampiress, which unfortunately happened to be her long hair that flowed down her back.
“Stay out of men’s fight, Cordelia,” Belle said as she pulled her back. She released the woman’s hair with a small push that made Cordelia stagger slightly to the side as she was caught unexpectedly.
The vampiress, who had resented Belle for so long that her loathing had grown like a weed in her chest, lost all control at the realization that she had dared to pull her hair. In all of her entire life, this was the first time any human had dared to pull her hair and push her to the side, and the humiliation of it made her turn to face Belle.
“How dare you touch my hair?” Cordelia snapped, reaching out, ready to return the insult in kind and pull the human’s hair from her scalp to teach her a lesson.
But Evenly, who had been frozen in place, overwhelmed by the sight of Rav fighting for her, finally snapped out of it. She handed Angel carefully into Belle’s arms. “Hold him for me.”
Then she stepped forward, planting herself squarely between Belle and the vampiress. Her chin tilted up. “If you want a fight, then fight me. After all, I’m a vampire now. I’m closer to your strength than she’ll ever be.” A small smirk tugged at Evenly’s lips as she rolled up her sleeves, a wild glint sparking in her red eyes. For months now she had wished for any chance or opportunity to face Cordelia in a one-on-one fight, and that opportunity presented itself.
It wasn’t unusual for vampires to brawl in the open like wild creatures, but many nobles avoided such behavior to maintain their air of civility. However, if there was ever a day Evenly wanted to beat Cordelia bloody, it was today.
Cordelia, who never backed down from a challenge, especially not from someone she saw as beneath her, let out a fierce cry and launched forward with her vampire speed to attack the other woman.
Evenly was ready for her movement. She’d been trained to fight long before she was ever turned. And as a night creature now, she knew exactly how to use that strength. She read Cordelia’s movements, ducked at the right moment, and tackled her to the muddy ground. The two vampiresses crashed down, hissing and growling like feral cats in the mud.
Cordelia threw blows, but Evenly was already on top of her, pinning her down and raining blows, slaps, punches, anything that landed on her. Cordelia’s once flawless face reddened and smeared with dirt as they rolled in the mud, but being a vampire who relied solely on her vampire strength rather than combat skills, which she’d never learned, she wasn’t able to move from beneath Evenly or deflect the hits that landed on her beautiful face.
Belle stepped back from the fight, clutching Angel to her chest to stop him from bouncing off her arms. The little boy was watching the chaos with pure delight, giggling and cheering happily, entirely entertained by the fight breaking out on both sides of the street. One side was Josh and Rav, and in front of her was Evenly and Cordelia.
Belle was at a loss for what to do; part of her thought she should stop them. But then she saw Evenly’s expression. This wasn’t just a fight; it was years of bottled fury finally given teeth, and quite frankly she liked that Cordelia was at a disadvantage towards Evenly. So Belle stayed where she was, choosing not to interfere; not that she could even dare put herself in between fights with vampires to stop it. She didn’t have the strength to do so and she didn’t attempt it.
Rav let Josh’s unconscious body slump to the ground with a dull thud. His breathing was heavy but controlled. He had never known beating someone you dislike could make one feel better, Rav thought as he looked down at the unmoving man in the ground.
When Rav turned to his people, the sight of the wild brawl between the two vampiresses greeted him. He was taken aback by the fight as he had not even noticed it at first. He moved quickly, striding over and grabbing Evenly around the waist to pull her off the brat vampiress.
