Chapter 732: CHAPTER 732
CHAPTER 732

“Now if you are done impaling yourself with a sword, will you come over here and take your food? Or should I smack your ass?”

The threat felt real as Grey couldn’t help but gulp, then let out an awkward chuckle while ruffling his hair slightly.

“… Uhm, about that. I really don’t feel like eating right now. I’m not that hungry.”

He slowly rose from the ground while dispelling the sword into his soul core, whatever that was.

“… I have something to take care of.”

Rumble, rumble, growl!

Grey’s belly betrayed his words loudly.

He froze, then shook his head and turned away.

“I will be bac—”

“Grey Dawn Cromwell!” Clarice growled sharply, piercing him with a menacing stare.

‘Not my last name, but okay…’

“I said, come have your breakfast!”

The pressure was real.

Grey’s heart pounded violently as he gulped again and slowly turned around to face Clarice, who stood there with a plate filled with food outstretched, a devilish smile on her face.

Seeing that smile, a chill ran down his spine.

“On second thought, I think I’m hungry.”

He rushed forward, snatched the plate from Clarice’s hands, then settled on the ground and began chowing it down like a ravenous, starving beast.

The meal consisted of rice, vegetables, a few dumplings, and a piece of meat.

He devoured it as if he hadn’t eaten in ages.

“Man… this is too good. They don’t serve food like this back at the academy.”

Grey spoke mid-chew, his mouth full.

“… Nothing beats a homemade delicacy.”

Clarice smiled warmly as she ruffled his hair like he was still a child.

“You’re welcome.”

She turned away, leaving him to his meal as she went about handling some chores around the house.

While eating, a darker look settled on the mage’s face.

‘… I can tell. She’s trying to hide it, but the sadness is real and runs deep. Her house, the one she married into, gave birth to her children in, and built years of memories within, was ruined in a single day. Her daughters are gone too.’

He hiccupped mid-bite, causing Clarice to hurry over with a cup of water, which she calmly helped him drink.

Grey stared at her gentle, motherly face, his chest tightening with melancholy.

‘I can’t bring back her daughters, but I can at least do two things…’

“You good?” Clarice asked after pulling the cup away and setting it beside him.

Grey nodded.

She smiled softly and turned away once more.

‘… I can rescue her son from the clutches of that twisted academy, and I can help her rebuild her house. That much, I can do. That much, I will do.’

He resolved inwardly.

After finishing his meal, Grey walked over to another corner of the house and did the dishes. Within a minute, he was done.

He wiped his hands on the back of his pants and turned toward Clarice, who was keeping herself busy with small, menial tasks.

“Uhm… Mother Clarice. I’m heading out.”

She glanced at him with a worried expression, but Grey simply gave her a reassuring smile.

“I’m not going far. I’ll stay within the vicinity. I want to practice something and don’t want to destroy the house, so I’ll just step outside.”

Hearing his explanation, Clarice exhaled softly.

“Fine then. Knock yourself out. And make you—”

Grey didn’t wait to hear the rest. He bolted toward the door and slipped outside.

“Don’t worry, I will be back before dinner or before Yami sir gets back.”

With that, he exited the house, leaving Noir yawning lazily in the corner of the room.

***

A portal opened up in a certain location.

Massive boulder-like rocks could be seen scattered and strewn across the area.

Some were cracked, while others were half buried in the earth as though they had been thrown aside without care.

The ground was scorched for a few metres, blackened soil stretching outward in uneven patterns.

The forest itself looked strange, almost unsettling, as nearly a quarter of the trees appeared to have been forcefully uprooted or completely destroyed by something violent.

This was the location of Grey’s battle with Z5 that day. And now, he was here again.

Stepping out of the portal, he walked toward the middle of the ruined forest, his eyes briefly scanning the surroundings.

The lingering traces of destruction still carried a faint pressure in the air.

Then, he summoned his sword from his soul core and glanced down at it.

It was no longer pulsing like it had been a few minutes ago and now rested calmly in his grasp, appearing like any ordinary blade.

But deep down, he knew it was anything but normal.

“I didn’t know what would happen if I did this in the house, hence why I came here. So let’s start.”

With those words, he stood still. His eyes closed tightly as he began slowly emptying his mana into the sword.

He remained in place for several minutes.

With nothing more than a thought, his mana began flowing from his body to his hands and then into the blade, which gradually started glowing an ethereal white.

He kept going, pushing further and further, as his hair lifted slightly as if caught in an unseen wind.

His palms shone with a soft white light while he continued the process without interruption.

After a few more minutes of tense silence, Grey dropped to his knees, panting heavily from exhaustion as beads of sweat clung to his face and dripped onto the scorched ground below.

He had emptied his entire mana core into the sword, which had now dimmed back down, returning to its dormant state.

The only energy he had left at the moment was ki.

His mana was completely gone, yet he could already feel it slowly restoring itself from the world around him, seeping back into his depleted core.

Still, a stubborn smile clung to his lips.

“… It worked.”

Slowly pushing himself up from the ground after regaining his breath, he lifted the sword once more.

‘Let’s see if the energy would burst out,’ he mused as his eyes sharpened with focus.

Raising the blade, his hands pressed tightly against the guard.

Then, with a low swoosh, he made a slashing motion through the air.

The weapon whistled sharply, as if cutting through the wind itself, yet nothing followed the motion.

He swung Clara a few more times, testing different angles and speeds, but no energy was expended outward.

With a satisfied smile, he sat down on the bare earth in the center of the forest, settling into a lotus position.

“… Guess it worked. So I don’t have to worry about mistakenly unleashing my mana from the sword and emptying my reservoir.”

His grin knew no bounds as he began cultivating his mana, focusing on replenishing his depleted core.

Closing his eyes, he took slow, deep breaths, allowing the surrounding energy to flow naturally back into him.
