640: Meeting (3) 640: Meeting (3) Chapter 640 “Wait, what?!” Grey shouted in shock at the answer Alba gave him.

“Did I stutter?” Alba asked sarcastically as she glared straight at Grey.

“My answer is no.

I refuse to take part in this madness you are trying to drag us into.” “But why?!” Grey snapped as he slammed his fists on the table, shooting up from his seat in frustration.

“What exactly did you expect?” Alba fired back as she rose too, leaning slightly forward.

“You thought that emotional speech of yours would lure me into tossing myself and the people I consider family into enemy territory and potential death?

And all for a stranger whose identity I do not even know because he chooses to hide his damn face behind a mask.

I’m not stupid.” The table went completely silent for a few seconds.

Every pair of eyes flicked cautiously between both figures, wondering whether Alba would explode further or if Grey would push back even harder.

‘What is going through your mind, Supreme Magus?

What sort of insanity are you about to ignite?’ Dame wondered in alarm.

“Fair enough.” Grey sighed abruptly as he calmly lowered himself back into his seat, surprising everyone with how quickly he composed himself.

Alba exhaled deeply, forcing her posture to relax as she sat again.

“Look,” she said quietly, leaning forward.

“I admire your courage to even think of taking down a faction alone.

But that courage is misplaced because what you are planning is outright madness.

You’re not strong enough.

Just because you produce valuable pills doesn’t mean you suddenly gained the power or status to wage war against a dominant faction.

Instead, why not work with us?

Become our eighth member and help craft rare pills for the clan.

In exchange, we treat you well and offer you solid protection.” ‘Accept already.

No other clan should get their hands on you.

You belong with us.’ she thought secretly.

“And who exactly said I need protection?” Grey asked before letting out a quiet chuckle.

“And regarding your request, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I do not work under anyone.

I will never bow to anyone either.

The Supreme Magus does not kneel, and he never will.” “Don’t you understand?!” Alba snapped sharply, her eyes glowing faintly with surging energy.

“Every clan in this faction is hunting you down.

Some want you alive, others want you dead so nobody else can take advantage of your value.

You think you can shoulder that alone and then reject my alliance?” “Listen,” Dame whispered as he leaned closer to Grey, voice low.

“Truthfully, being invited to join Alba as the eighth member is an honour every young warrior dreams of.

Her clan may not reach the levels of the major ones, but they are strong enough to rival many smaller and mid-tier clans.

This is not an offer people throw away easily.

Consider it carefully.” “I have considered it.” Grey replied coldly as he stood, straightening his robe with a smooth motion.

His masked gaze swept across the room.

“And I’m still rejecting it.

I do not join anyone’s established clan.

If I choose a clan, it will be one I create myself.” “So now what are you feeling like?” Lance shouted angrily, rising slightly as he glared hard at Grey.

“Just because you gained a bit of fame and clan leaders want to recruit you doesn’t mean you are automatically important.” “A piece of advice,” Ash added calmly, his voice low but firm.

“Drop that ridiculous idea of taking down the Aetherian faction.

Choose a peaceful and stable life instead.

Serving as a clan’s alchemist is not a terrible fate.

Trust me, look at where it has placed me.” “It isn’t that bad yet you look like a reawakened corpse… no, more like a zombie,” Grey commented with a low scoff.

“How dare you talk to Ash like that?!” Killian shouted as he shot out of his seat, his hands trembling with fury.

“Lower your voice, weakling,” Grey replied coldly, his left eye glowing faintly through the mask.

“You might be a hotshot in this clan, but do not ever think of crossing my path.” “Supreme Magus,” Dame called out calmly as he rose to his feet.

“Stop this madness.

You cannot do anything against the Aetherian faction.

Nobody wants to challenge the…” “But they already challenged me, so it is only right I return the favour,” Grey cut in sharply.

‘There it is,’ Alba thought as she frowned.

‘That unsettling confidence of his.

Where is he getting that from?

Is there something hidden beneath the surface?

Is he truly just an alchemist?’ “Forget that you can make special pills,” Brook muttered softly.

“That is all there is to you, nothing else.

Or do you plan to throw pills at the leaders of that insane faction?” “Exactly.

That is the only thing you can do,” Lance added as he crossed his arms.

“There is no reason for us to risk our lives for you.

What have you even done for us?

You create pills, we help sell them, you earn your profit, we get ours.

That is a simple exchange.

You cannot use that as leverage because everything has been a balanced deal from day one.” “Doing something like this gives us no advantages.

We would lose heavily,” Lilly said as she shook her head.

‘Does the Supreme Magus actually have a backup plan?

Is there a reason behind his attitude?

I have not even seen him fight once,’ Dame thought, his frown deepening.

“Something that would benefit all of you, right?” Grey repeated with a calm smile as he turned around to face them one by one.

‘That is right.

I almost forgot my final leverage because I let anger distract me,’ he thought as he almost dragged a palm down his face.

“What if I tell you that I can craft weapons far stronger than your current ones?

I can enhance your weapons into something rare and valuable, exactly like I improved those pills,” Grey said with a wide smile, leaving the entire group staring in disbelief.

“Lies,” Lance snapped instantly.

“Are we supposed to accept this just because you said it?

Tch.

We all know this is a desperate attempt, and it cannot trick anyone here.” ‘Is this a desperate attempt or is he actually telling the truth?’ Alba wondered silently, her eyes narrowing.

‘Wait.

That is it.

This might work,’ Dame screamed inwardly as a small smile formed on his lips.

‘He saved my life indirectly.

If I can help him get the Crimson Lotus Clan’s support, I can lighten his burden a little.’ “You can call me many things, but do not call me a liar,” Grey replied as he turned to face Lance again.

“Tch.

And how are we supposed to believe you can do som…” “He is not lying.

He truly can do something like that,” Dame interrupted suddenly, making everyone turn toward him at once.

“Huh?” Alba muttered with a frown when she saw Dame sigh softly and raise his empty hands.

“Watch this,” he said, then slammed both palms together.

In an instant, a pair of gauntlets appeared out of thin air and wrapped firmly around his forearms.

The metallic glow spread across the room, stunning everyone.

“What?!

How… how is this possible?” They all exclaimed in unison as they stared at the gauntlets.

“This is the work of the Supreme Magus,” Dame said calmly, and the room fell into complete silence as awe washed over their faces.
