609: Time to Move!

609: Time to Move!

Chapter 609 Bleeeech!

Two students from the far back threw up in unison at the gruesome sight of Jared’s murder.

Two of his friends, who had stayed with him, collapsed to their knees together, heads spinning as their minds struggled to process what had just happened.

Nobody moved.

The wind howled loudly, pushing the debris aside and revealing the demon standing there, grinning faintly as it stared at the diced-up human lying just a few steps away.

Rivock froze, unable to take another step.

His body trembled in fright for the first time in a long while.

The arrogant descendant was so shaken that his limbs quivered violently, sweat cascading down his face as his heart pounded like a war drum against his chest.

His head hung low, eyes darting between the multiple pieces of Jared’s remains scattered across the cracked ground.

‘Th… th… this could have been me?

I… I was this close to being diced up like meat?’ Rivock thought in horror, his mind replaying the scene over and over again.

‘Th… this is what would have happened to me if I didn’t listen to Grey’s warning?

I… I would have ended up like that?’ he repeated in disbelief as his stomach churned painfully.

“How is this possible?

When did Jared even make it to that side without us noticing?” Finral asked, his hands trembling as his voice cracked with fear.

Liam was already on his knees-not mourning Jared’s death but sobbing uncontrollably as he muttered broken words under his breath.

“We will die… we are all going to die.

Death is certain… we’re all dead,” he wept, his shoulders shaking with every word.

‘This is bad,’ Albed thought as she stood among the students, her hands trembling while her widened eyes remained locked on the demon ahead.

‘I… I don’t think any of us are making it out of here alive.

This demon’s threat level just skyrocketed.

What do we do now?!’ ‘Curses!

This could have been any of us!’ Sera spat inwardly as her grip on her sword tightened, her teeth grinding together in frustration and dread.

‘So this is how it killed Instructor Kent so cleanly-as if it used a sword,’ Grey thought, the realization dawning on him as he stared at Jared’s diced-up body.

‘The other times it used this, I was too distracted to sense it.

But for that brief moment I went into a meditative state, I could clearly see it.

It created a small net of invisible strings in front of it.

Judging by how they were able to slice a human body so cleanly, those strings must be insanely powerful.

String manipulation, huh?

Is that its unique skill?

Hmm, and here I thought these demons were mindless beasts.

But this one used strategy-it deliberately baited the warriors into rushing in by creating false openings.

Then, when it was sure someone would fall for it, it set the perfect trap.

Who would’ve thought a fool like Jared would take it?

Tsk.’ Grey scoffed inwardly as he stared at the mangled body.

‘I don’t feel any remorse for that fool.

He had it coming, always chasing glory through greed.

That was how he stabbed me in the back for his selfish ambition, and now, that same greed got him killed.

Tch!

I’m just irritated that it wasn’t by my own hands he died.’ The Supreme Magus sighed quietly before lifting his gaze toward the demon.

“Hmm, I was hoping you’d be the one on the ground instead,” Gil said with a disappointed heave as he pointed toward Rivock, who was still visibly shaken.

Mada and Noelle staggered weakly to their feet, their eyes wide as they stared at Rivock’s trembling body, unable to find their voices as the weight of fear settled over them all.

‘Wh… what happened to Rivock?

Why is he trembling?

Th… this is the first time I’m seeing him like this.

What has gotten into him?’ Mada thought worriedly.

“AHHHH!

We… we’re all going to die!” A terrified scream from one of the female red band students pierced the air, drawing the demon’s attention.

Tears streamed down her pale face as she staggered backward, her eyes wide and unfocused.

Step after step, she kept retreating until fear finally took over-then she spun around and bolted away in tears.

Her voice cracked with sobs as her footsteps echoed across the coliseum floor, but her desperate attempt to flee only seemed to irritate the demon.

“I hate interruptions,” Gil snickered darkly, his claw twitching once.

In the very next instant, the student dropped to her knees, blood gushing from her neck in violent waves that painted the ground red.

That single act jolted Rivock from his trance.

His head jerked upward, eyes widening as he turned toward the dying girl who now knelt motionless, trembling as her life drained away.

She slowly turned her head toward the demon, clutching at her throat.

Her lips parted as if to speak, but no words came only a choking sound escaped before her body gave out.

She collapsed face-first into the dirt, lifeless.

Rivock’s eyes widened further, his trembling intensifying.

Sweat poured down his face, his breathing ragged and uneven as his body instinctively stepped backward in fear.

His pupils shrank, heart pounding wildly in his chest as if it was about to burst.

‘Huh?

Why is Rivock reacting like this?

We’ve all seen death before… So what’s going on with him?’ Noelle thought, confused yet unsettled by the sight before her.

Rivock’s shaking hands failed him completely, and his Ki sword slipped from his grasp.

The weapon shattered into particles of energy and vanished into the air.

His steps faltered as his mind began to spiral.

Images flashed before his eyes-memories buried deep in his heart.

He saw a young boy, no older than five, standing frozen in terror as a blade swung toward him.

Just before it struck, a woman-his mother leapt in front of it, taking the fatal blow in his place.

Her blood splattered across his small face.

‘Th… that could have been me.

I… I could have died… again!’ Rivock’s thoughts grew fractured, his expression breaking apart as tears filled his eyes.

“Now, where was I?” the demon murmured in amusement, snapping Rivock back to the present.

It tilted its head and grinned wider.

“Right!

I was saying I wanted you to die instead of that diced-up idiot.

But don’t worry, I can fix that.” Gil smirked, and in a flash, it lunged forward toward the disoriented descendant.

Its claws gleamed, slicing through the air like razors.

“RIVOCK!

MOVE!” Mada roared in panic as he reached out to intervene, his Ki flaring wildly but it was already too late.

Or so they thought.

“Thalos, time to move,” Grey muttered coolly, his tone calm yet commanding.

That single sentence shattered the silence.

A deafening thunderclap boomed from above, drawing everyone’s attention upward.

The demon’s grin faded slightly as it glanced skyward only to see a massive, statue-like gargoyle descending from the heavens, a colossal greatsword in its hands.

The ground trembled violently upon its arrival, the air vibrating as if reality itself recognized the arrival of something ancient and monstrous.
