Chapter 737: New Class in Ethereal
Ethan’s whisper was soft, but it carried a tone that brooked no argument. Lyla, still trembling from her recent climax, shuddered again at the warmth of his breath against her ear.
“I… what do you… what do you want me to do?”
Flustered, she buried her face in his chest, overwhelmed with a shyness she couldn’t suppress. She understood exactly what he was asking, and her heart fluttered into a frantic rhythm.
Hearing no refusal in her voice, a wicked grin spread across Ethan’s lips. Just as he remembered. Even back in the cabin, when she had been the one to push him down, she was the novice, and he had quickly taken the lead. And just like the ‘Moonbeam’ from his memories—the one who had stayed by his side in his previous life within Ethereal—she was like a kitten, eager to please and fulfill his every desire.
Guided by his low, murmured instructions, Lyla made a momentous decision. She curled her body, turning herself around until her head was at his feet and her playful, wriggling toes were right before his eyes.
There, under the open sky at the mountain’s peak, under Ethan’s tutelage, she moved through a series of increasingly intimate poses. Her movements were achingly hesitant, a mixture of agony and ecstasy for him.
They lost themselves in each other, forgetting the world in a haze of endless entanglement.
It felt like an eternity later when a cry of pure frustration ripped from Ethan’s throat.
“Goddamn it… this is so unfair! This is torture!”
Lyla, her eyes glazed and distant, gently stroked his face. A soft smile played on her lips. She had lost count of how many times she had soared to that blissful peak, and a part of her was secretly afraid. If this were the real world, just as Amber had warned, she might truly be unable to handle Ethan’s… stamina.
In Ethereal, this act wasn’t physical, but a mental fusion. The sensation was, in some ways, even more intense. But for Ethan, it was a special kind of torment.
For over an hour, he had labored. And then, right at the critical moment, a message from Victor and the others had flashed at the edge of his vision, shattering the mood.
His primal energy, however, remained undiminished, a raging storm with no outlet. His eyes were bloodshot, like an enraged lion—a lion suffering from severe and agonizing blue balls.
Seeing his pained state, her heart ached for him. “Ethan… it’s okay,” she soothed, her voice a whisper. “You have… things to do. Next time… hmm… maybe we can ask Amber to join us?”
Her voice grew smaller and smaller, but he heard every word. The man who moments ago felt cursed by the heavens suddenly perked up, his head snapping towards her with a look of pure, unadulterated disbelief. Had he heard her right?
Lyla couldn’t meet his gaze, hiding her face in shame.
“Or… maybe even Rainie…” she added, before immediately throwing herself face-down onto the grassy ground, wishing it would swallow her whole.
She was consumed by a fiery mortification. The shame was obvious. The frustration was at herself—what had possessed her to say such things? She wasn’t that kind of girl! The mere mental image of herself, Amber, and Rainie Chen all together with Ethan… her pale skin flushed a deep, rosy pink from head to toe.
Ethan was now certain. She had absolutely said it. And she’d mentioned Rainie Chen. His mind reeled. The memory of Rainie’s unexpected kiss surfaced, sending a jolt of thrilling recollection through him.
Smack!
“Ah!”
He playfully swatted her upturned backside, making her yelp. Ethan fought to keep a straight face, though the corners of his mouth twitched violently, his heart pounding with a sudden, wild excitement. He was utterly enchanted by this temptress.
He couldn’t resist a few more minutes of teasing, caressing her until she trembled and climaxed once more under his touch, before he finally, reluctantly, called a halt to their activities.
By the time they were done, they were a full half-hour past the one-hour meeting time he had set. But just as they were straightening their clothes and smoothing their hair, a message came through from Leo. He was back, and from the sound of his voice, buzzing with excitement. It seemed the Grandmaster-Brewmaster class was something seriously powerful.
…
Ethan and Lyla returned to Harmony City and found Victor and the others waiting.
“Where’s Leo?” Ethan asked. The guy had just messaged saying he was back.
“He showed up with an NPC in tow,” Victor explained, the group gathering around them from where they’d been lounging by the street. “Said it was the final part of his quest. Took them to the Class Hall.”
Just then, a series of chimes echoed across the city, and translucent system text blazed before every player’s eyes.
[Ding… Global Announcement: Player [Skyblade] of Dragonspire has completed the recommendation quest from the Grandmasters of Lost Isle. The new [Monk] Class is now unlocked.]
[Ding… Global Announcement: All players of any existing class are granted one free directed class change opportunity to switch to the [Monk] class. This offer lasts for 72 hours. After the time limit expires, this change will no longer be available.]
[Ding… Global Announcement: The Monk class option is now available for new players creating characters in the world of Ethereal.]
[Ding… Global Announcement: The Monk class begins as Neutral Faction. New players who select it must complete a specific quest line before they can join either the Survivor or Carnage Factions. Until this quest is completed, they cannot leave the confines of Lost Isle.]
They were standing in the central plaza of Harmony City. The global announcement brought the usual hustle and bustle to a standstill as players everywhere stopped to read and process the news.
“Holy hell, Leo’s gone and done something massive,” Williams breathed, impressed.
“Unlocking a whole new class? That’s insane. The rewards for that have to be crazy good,” Meatball added, her eyes wide.
Ethan was just as surprised. He hadn’t expected Leo’s hidden class quest to result in the introduction of an entirely new profession to the game system. The changes in Ethereal this time around were profound. In his last life, nothing like this had happened, even after four years.
The chatter in the square swelled around them.
“‘Skyblade’… that’s the Renegade Alliance’s main tank, right?”
“Yeah, him. Harmony City’s top Shield Tank.”
“The Renegade Alliance is on a roll. First they have the Druid God, and now their main tank is hitting global announcements.”
“Bet he got some insane rewards. I mean, unlocking a system-wide class? Has to be huge.”
“You bet… you bet… all you ever do is bet! What else can you do, you moron?”
“Hey, watch your mouth! I bet your brain’s missing a few screws!”
“There you go again with ‘I bet’! You bet your ass I’ll duel you right now! Wager a gold coin on it!”
“I bet you’re just a brain-dead—”
Even in the heart of Harmony City, a simple discussion could nearly escalate into a brawl. Ethan and his crew could only shake their heads at the ridiculousness.
“So where is Leo?” Meatball muttered, peering impatiently toward the Class Hall.
“Yeah, his quest is done. What’s taking him so long?” Victor followed her gaze.
“Hey…” Ethan’s eyes were drawn to a figure emerging from the same direction. “You guys ever see that NPC before?”
The man was dressed in form-fitting traveler’s clothes, a dark red scarf wrapped around his neck and covering the lower half of his face. A wide-brimmed hat sat on his head, and a long staff was slung casually over one shoulder. He walked with a slow, almost swaying, rolling gait that would have been reminiscent of the legendary Monkey King, if not for the massive, barrel-sized keg strapped to his back. The accessory completely ruined the archetype.
