Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Against The Sun Empress
Chapter 348 – Against The Sun Empress

Kaden cursed under his breath as the scorching hot golden Sun began to sink toward them. In its wake, the very space burned completely.

At that instant, the sky was nothing but golden-white flame as far as his eyes could perceive.

He felt the blood inside his body begin to boil and evaporate, his own control over blood barely managing to stop the process.

His fire fared much better than his blood, though it was severely lacking when facing the full heat of The Sun and the legacy of the White Phoenix at the hand of an Elderling.

The pain flooding inside his body was staggering.

He cursed once more and tightened his grip around Reditha’s hilt, the crimson sword shining an intense reddish-black hue with crimson-gold fire added.

At his side was Aurora who, despite being at higher rank than Kaden, was suffering a lot more than him.

Kaden’s feet shifted, his body crouched slightly, then he swung Reditha upward toward the sun. A reddish-black arc erupted and slammed onto the descending Sun. The impact of his combined intents and flames against the Sun made it possible to stall for time.

At the same time, beneath them, condensed stars appeared and wrapped around their legs. They vibrated, then shot backward with blistering speed, just in time for the Sun to touch the ground.

In a whole four-kilometer radius, everything was burned to golden ashes. In the place where the Sun had fallen, there was nothing but a harrowing pit deep enough to see nothing but darkness, shrouded by floating ashes across the field.

The Sun disappeared, Shamsi unable to maintain her aspect for so long.

Meanwhile, with the speed of a shooting star, Kaden and Aurora managed to escape the fate of being literally cooked by another star. Though, that didn’t make them feel any better.

Sweat was bathing their whole bodies, and their hearts were beating at a far faster rhythm than what they were used to.

They were fighting against one who had already begun to walk the path of divinity, and that as simple mortals with nothing but a domain.

Shamsi had a domain, an aspect, and a concept. She might have been tired from the battle against Moon, but even a starved lioness could slaughter two pitiful bunnies.

“This is bad.” Kaden whispered as his flame shrouded him once more, barely managing to halt his body from heating.

He didn’t know the full power of Shamsi, but the way everything around was heating was too intense and abnormal. Kaden could literally see the air boiling in front of him.

The worst was he could no longer afford to die, for his death coins were far too low for such a luxury. Meaning, he needed to kill an Elderling on the first try.

It was something he had already done, but principally because of the erratic emotions of Thirty-Three and his domain.

A domain he still was not ready to use once more. His mind and mana were too drained for that. Emptiness was too heavy for him; the weight of the concept might swallow him before he even had the time to control it with his exhausted mind.

There was a reason a god was ecstatic to the point of wanting to take it from him. But knowing all this didn’t help him.

He needed a way.

‘If not, I will have no choice but to take the risk of being lost in emptiness.’ He thought with gritted teeth, feeling the hopelessness of the situation.

“Aurora,” Kaden grated as the golden ashes parted away to reveal Shamsi in all her glory, “you are more of the support type, aren’t you?”

Aurora crooked a smile, sweat dripping from her chin, “Yes, my dear.”

“Think you can follow my pace?” Kaden’s eyes became as cold as death, and as murderous as anything ever. The hand gripping Reditha was slithering with veins, moving like snakes trapped inside him.

“If I cannot,” Aurora grinned and took her own stance, “then none under the heavens could. Go, my dear. I have your back.”

Kaden allowed himself a deep grin, then golden-crimson flame suddenly exploded while enveloping all his body, the fire reaching sky-high.

The ground beneath him began to crack as Kaden began to use all his stats to the maximum output. Space and time began to lag with all the power emerging from him.

‘Interesting.’ The White Phoenix thought while looking at Kaden. Shamsi raised an eyebrow, finding the amount of power radiating from Kaden to be completely absurd.

She frowned next, feeling a sense of threat. Disbelief cracked inside her mind, ‘A threat?’

She had no time to ponder upon the ridiculous situation. One second Kaden was kilometers apart from her, the next he was above her.

Only then did the world catch up, and the sound of something slashing the wind reverberated through the ashed plain, followed by an explosion of power.

In the air, Kaden swirled upon himself and used the force of his momentum to deliver soul-wrenching slashes.

They spawned instantly in front of Shamsi, whose body was already shrouded in protective fire to counterattack.

At that instant, silver stars veiled her out of nowhere. The Sun spared them an indifferent glance, causing some to melt down instantly. But there were some silver stars protected by Kaden’s flame that lasted long enough before they exploded into an avalanche of frost.

The fire of Shamsi wavered, making an opening directly on her body. And in the same breath, Kaden’s slashes landed on her skin.

CLANK—!

It was like sword upon steel, yet Reditha was no ordinary sword. She managed to draw out blood from the Empress, on her left shoulder, causing the Empress, in the surge of bellowing anger, to sweep her hand in a backward fashion. A sea of fire erupted and swallowed Kaden.

But none of that happened, for stars enveloped Kaden and shot him forward even higher in the sky, escaping the fire at hair’s breadth.

At the place where he was, space itself was burned completely, now melting into a weird slimy silvery substance.

Shamsi snapped her head toward Aurora.

The latter took an unconscious step back in fear. She felt her eyes burning, then blinked, and Shamsi’s angered rotating sun-eyes were just in front of her.

“You are dead.” The Sun growled, her flamed hand snapping toward Aurora.

Kaden howled in both shock and outrage, with Aurora herself yelping, her body dissipating into molten dust of blinding stars to escape.

Yet an Elderling was no ordinary being. The Empress’s hand was shrouded with her concept of Heat, one able to heat almost anything.

She grabbed a portion of dust into her hand. Her hand heated exponentially, then blasted away the dust mercilessly.

“ARGHHHHHHHH!!!” Aurora’s terror and gut-wrenching voice erupted, drowning the battlefield in howls of pain.

Prometheus roared in anger. He used his blood manipulation, causing the blood that trickled down from Shamsi’s left shoulder to transform into a bloody hound covered in crimson-gold flame.

The crimson hound ran up across Shamsi’s skin and entered deep inside one of her nostrils before exploding inside.

Shamsi’s body jerked up violently, her eyes dilated. She coughed a mouthful of golden blood, accompanied by fragments of her organs.

Next, Kaden took a throwing position and hurled Reditha toward her, then dashed with impossible speed and took Aurora into his arms and distanced them both from his opponent.

Reditha, meanwhile, was still descending upon Shamsi, whose eyes were glowing with the deep searing fire of wrath. Her mouth and nose were bleeding furiously. The fire of Kaden had managed to burn a portion of her mana and even a hint of her emotions.

But like fate would have wanted it, the emotion it burned was mercy.

The Sun Empress was going berserk.

As Reditha was an inch from her, she cracked open her bleeding lips,

“Domain…”

The Heat around surged to impossible degrees. Their clothes began to completely burn, their skin peeled away.

Kaden cursed and looked at Aurora in his arms whose left hand had melted completely, leaving nothing behind, as he heard Shamsi activating her domain.

“The Sun—!”

“D-Domain: Last Star’s Requiem.”

Aurora’s weak but defiant voice cut through the roar of the Sun Empress, causing a domain made of starlight dust to collide with Shamsi’s domain.

Aurora failed miserably to stop the Empress from activating her domain. But her intervention made the Empress lag in her track and lose, for a fraction of a second, the sight of Reditha.

A bloody mistake.

Reditha mercilessly targeted the same wound she had delivered previously, sinking deep inside it.

Time paused.

Then a voice filled with wicked delight boomed all around, “Taste this.”

Reditha was slipping deep inside her prey’s body, numerous parasites made of corrosive blood enhanced by Soulbrand and hidden by the Absence Trait.

An overwhelming feeling of dread bathed the whole body of Shamsi. In a heightened state of consciousness, she grabbed Reditha before the sword could return to her master.

Now it was the turn of both Kaden and Reditha to feel fear.

They looked at The Sun Empress whose whole face was like a terrifying beast of judgment escaped from heaven. Her stretched mouth formed a jagged maw of sharp teeth with white flames coiling inside, about to erupt in blinding explosions.

“Bloody Hell! Reditha, come back!!!” Kaden howled with overwhelming fear.

But Reditha could no longer return. She was trapped inside Shamsi’s hand, as she witnessed the attack about to land.

Reditha inwardly grinned with madness, feeling the agony about to come and, in a time too fast for Kaden to react,

“Let’s do it together!!!” She roared with lunacy, followed by her order for the blood inside Shamsi to explode.

At that same moment Shamsi poured down from her mouth a fire hotter than a star, a fire of concept that enveloped Reditha in a literal cocoon of Hell.

Time lagged once more.

Then the world exploded into a chorus of shrieks of agony, and blasts of fire that enveloped this time a whole fifteen-kilometer radius.

Fokay itself trembled.

Aurora, despite her pain and fear, managed to save both herself and Kaden from the impact. Yet she found herself weeping at the sight of Kaden.

The man was now kneeling on the ground, feeling his own Origin crack — eyes, nose, and ears all bleeding furiously.

Terror bathed him whole, then agonizing pain bloomed inside his chest as a sound ripped from his throat.
