Chapter 347: Chapter 347: Daughter of Frost
Chapter 347 – Daughter of Frost

“You have no soul.”

The words reverberated inside Meris’s skull sharply, yet her face did not show any kind of emotion or surprise. It was blank.

It was not because she did not hear and understand the words of Solace perfectly…but simply because there was a level of surprise where your brain forgot how to react when facing certain situations.

Meris was one of those situations.

Seeing her, Solace understood completely her stand, but she still continued her speech. She did not know why she was doing it, or why she was meddling herself with such a thing.

She also did not know who the Elamin family mingled with for such a child to be born, for the thing that graced her eyes inside Meris was nothing like the Elamin’s bloodline.

It was far deeper. And far colder than anything.

“Little kitty,” she called. Meris looked at her still blankly. “Everything inside of you is frost.”

Meris finally managed to react, opening her lips to speak, “What…what do you mean?” Her voice had lost all the whimsical and mischievous tone she always carried.

The voice that echoed through the room was apathetic and flat. No emotions were behind it.

And Solace found her suspicion about Meris slowly coming true.

She had always sensed that Meris was putting on an act. That all she was doing around her — her whimsical attitudes, her smiling face, her easygoing manner…

“…all of that was fake?” She unconsciously blurted, making Meris spare her a glance with her mirror-like silver eyes.

“Tell me, little kitty,” Solace’s voice was heavy with unknown feelings, “is everything of you a façade? Are you smiling because you feel happy or simply because you think you should feel happy?”

Meris trembled unconsciously.

“Is your attitude, your mischievous nature, all a veil to hide away the coldness creeping inside of you? Tell me, little kitty, who are you really? And what do you truly feel when no soul reside in you?”

Solace leaned her cat-face forward, her purple eyes locked into the silver eyes of Meris. The tension was high, but Meris’s eyes didn’t waver one bit.

And that chilled the heart of Solace more than she was ready to voice out.

“Meris Elamin.” She called, her voice edged with a hint of coldness.

“Yes.” Meris answered curtly.

“Can you feel emotions with nothing but frost inside you?”

Meris didn’t respond. She didn’t have any answer to give, for at that moment her mind was a storm of confusion and rising fears.

She had always felt a void inside her since she was born, a kind of coldness that made her indifferent to anything in this world. It was a void she always tried to fill, and she did so by plunging herself into anything that could catch her attention.

She gave everything of herself, for she believed that in that way, she could stop seeing those around her as nothing but sacks of flesh and bone.

That was why she devoted her whole self to Kaden, for there was something inside of him that could catch her attention forever. A mystery about him. Something wondrous.

But now…now she doubted.

‘Do I love him? Or am I fooling myself in order to forget the chill inside of me?’

She didn’t know. And her mind was cracking apart.

But just at that moment, as if knowing the perfect time to always mingle…

The Will chimed.

And this time, once again, the words of The Will were heard by both parties.

{Congratulations, Meris Elamin, you have succeeded in your legendary master-ranked quest.}

The Will paused, Meris and Solace raising their heads at the sound. Then unhurriedly…

{Brace yourself, Daughter of Frost, you are ascending to Master!}

A deep pain pierced Meris’s body sharply as she stumbled forward, making her writhe with agony on the ground like a worm.

Solace watched her shouting and crying in agonizing pain, but instead of feeling bad for her, she felt relief…

‘She still can feel pain…’

If she could feel pain, then surely…hopefully…

‘…then you are not completely devoid of emotions, Meris. And that you being soulless, and that you being made entirely of frost despite your fleshy appearance…’

Her eyes hardened,

‘…doesn’t make you the monster I believed you were.’

And that…that was a relief.

For she was merciless in the face of a monster.

…

The Daughter of Frost was slowly being awakened. And that event did not go unnoticed to one being, a man.

Nothing could be seen from the man except his silver eyes that reflected the world around him like a perfected mirror. The realm he was in was one of pure frost. It was wide and spacious, jagged spires of frost jutting upward forming a mesmerizing tapestry.

The ground was carpeted by snow, and one could see water flowing in the air as if following some kind of invisible path.

But the frost, the snow, and the water were not the usual white or silver-colored ones. It was a deep primordial black, one that made most gods afraid of cold.

The man sat upon a throne made of the same frost, his whole body shrouded by storms of ice, snow and water.

His eyes were fixated above on the blank sky, frowning slightly.

“Already?” The voice was flat, and the simple sound of it caused the temperature around to plummet even further and storms of ice to erupt.

“Too soon.” He muttered, “Too, too soon.”

“Too weak to support the weight of my inheritance. Should I…?”

His voice was contemplative, but soon he shook his head slowly,

“She will manage.” Here, his voice was slightly melancholic.

“Yes…”

He paused, his silver eyes suddenly reflecting a woman with purple hair and matching purple eyes.

“…she always manages.”

…

“Will I manage?” Sirius inquired as he walked along the deserted road towards Asterion.

All around, there was nothing but a wide expanse of yellow sand with weeds growing here and there. The sun was blinding hot, yet he felt nothing of it.

He was walking instead of taking his carriage, and he was walking barefoot. Each of his steps on the hard ground made his mind calmer, enhancing his ability to think clearly.

This was something his father liked to do when the matters of the empire became too heavy even for him. He had found it beneath him at that time, but now that he tried…

Sirius must admit that there was something in this practice that touched deep within the core of his being. As a human, as a mortal.

Even though he looked nothing like one with his beauty.

And unconsciously, that made him admire his father even more.

‘You are truly great, father. Your sun is too blinding for Sora. She won’t be able to withstand it, father. Only I can match your brilliance and surpass it.’

He smirked slowly, ‘Only I am worthy.’

And yet…

“You are in tight spot, my prince.” Luna said, also walking barefoot. It was not her type, as a woman who loved to take care of herself, but she would do anything her prince did.

Anything.

At her words, Sirius’s lips twitched heavily, “Only temporary, darling. Only temporary.” He corrected, “I have Morningstar while my sister has Green. Silver is out of the way because of some crimson-robed men.”

At the end of his words, his voice was cold as death,

“Something, darling, I still cannot understand. Tell me who dares to go against me?”

At his right side, Luna sighed softly, “They call themselves The Messengers of Death, from what Silver told us. They are powerful, my prince. One of them was a Seer, while the other was able to eat swords and obtain the power of the swallowed sword.”

Sirius paused in his track at that information,

“A Seer?” He echoed, voice irritated. “My first time hearing the whereabouts of a Seer is when one goes against me?”

“And since when does one eat swords? Was that a human or a new race we do not know of?”

Sirius would have believed that he had angered the gods in one of his past lives for such a shitty luck if he was not so sure that he was too intelligent for that kind of thing.

He tilted his head, “Maybe because I am too handsome?” He whispered.

“Please, my prince, focus.” Luna called out to him, “You will lose the battle for the throne at this rate.”

“I won’t, darling. I am Sirius. This is my destiny and I shall take it. My cute sister might be becoming better for some unknown reasons and many strange events are happening lately, but she is still not my match.”

“Once again…”

“You are Sirius, yes, my prince.” Luna finished his sentence, smiling at him, looking at his beautiful face now fixed on the ground.

Her heart skipped a beat at the sight, ‘Too beautiful. He is too much.’

It truly hurted to see such beauty.

One would believe she would get used to it, but she did not believe anyone would ever get used to Sirius’s beauty.

He was right. His beauty was enough to anger the gods.

But Sirius did not move for a while now, looking beneath him with an arched golden eyebrow.

Luna followed his eyes and saw a small little slimy blue creature crawling around Sirius and slowly climbing his feet.

Sirius, weirdly, didn’t react to this, his eyes showing more and more a fire of confusion.

Something was weird, he remarked. Something was calling out to him. Something was screaming inside his mind, but everything was muffled.

He couldn’t hear the words correctly. So he focused deep, feeling that he must hear them.

Suddenly, everything around him disappeared into hazed silence.

Luna meanwhile was getting weirded out watching the beautiful feet of her prince being tainted by such a thing.

She couldn’t take it.

“My prince, can I kill away this parasite?” She asked innocently, but Sirius’s blue eyes widened exaggeratedly, his body suddenly shivering.

“Parasite?” He echoed absentmindedly, and just at that moment, a deep monstrous voice boomed inside his skull.

‘FINALLY, MASTER! YOU HAVE WOKEN UP!’

‘RAB HAD WAITED AS YOU HAVE SAID!’

‘SWALLOW ME, MASTER!’

‘YOUR DESTINY HAS COME!’

In a time faster than the conception of thought, Sirius lost consciousness and fell to the ground with a loud thud, the blue parasite entering deep inside him.

Luna’s face lost all color, then she shrieked in shock,

“PRINCE!!”

…

And all of that, while in another location, The Child of Heavens was hunting a dragon, with his black-skinned huntress at his side.

It was a duo none could have expected.

But it was a duo that would soon make the underground game tremble, for who they were hunting was no simple dragon.

It was the Red Prince Dragon, son of the Fat Amethyst Dragon.

Yet it was strange, for they were not looking like humans, but like snakes, with the huntress’s constant muttering of “This is madness, Sky.”

Yet…true madness was the one happening inside a Mythic quest, where one duo born from the deepest pit of Hell was going against a Sun.

And oh…

“Bloody Hell!!!” Kaden cursed, as the blazing sun began to descend upon them.

…the Sun was way hotter than he thought.
