Chapter 339: Chapter 339: Madness
Chapter 339 – Madness

Inside the bottomless space of Death, that Kaden now simply called Emptiness, the man found himself smiling with lunacy.

He didn’t know how many times he died, but he at least knew he had managed to obtain enough stat points and progressed enough in his skills to kill two Epithet-realm beings in his last life.

His strength had increased by leaps and bounds. And yet that was not the reason why he was smiling.

He was smiling because with his perception and intelligence enhanced greatly, and with nothingness hugging him from all sides in that space like a devoted mother…

Kaden felt he wisp of understanding coming at him, and with that came the knowledge of what he needed to do to officially form his domain.

“Hahahah!” He laughed, “Emptiness… oh Emptiness!! I see… so this is what I must do? This is what I must accept?”

It was scary to say the least. Yet Kaden was happy, for finally he found a way out of this death loop.

And at that same moment, Death chimed sharply all around, giving Kaden the trait he asked for this time,

[You have been killed by Carl Rien, an Epithet-realm being.]

[You have obtained the Trait: Absence.]

[Absence: You can hide yourself from anything and everything as long as your Will is higher than what or who you are hiding from.]

Seeing the trait, Kaden’s laughter only increased further, before ordering Death to revive him, eager to complete his domain…

…and drown the world and everything between heaven and earth into emptiness.

Tick—!

[Cost: 2000 death coins.]

[Remaining death coins: 50.]

…

The battle was searing, and the room had been the stage to such a high-level clash.

The temperature had risen to a brutal degree, making anyone see how the very space was shimmering and wavering constantly like water on a stormy night, and how the bed and the remaining furniture of the room were melting down slowly.

Around the room, smoke rose, hazing away the sight of all trying to witness the fight.

The toys of Klaus were all regrouped on one side, looking at the ongoing battle with fear painted into their faces, though if one looked closely they would notice two of them whose eyes seemed void of emotion and whose bodies were glowing with a faint crimson hue.

Neila, meanwhile, was on the opposite side of the toys, now managing to cover herself with some leftover melted curtain. Her blue eyes were constantly trembling, watching the unfolding fight.

Solaris and Klaus were like two blurs of light dancing sinisterly inside the room. The echo of their clashes of steel could be heard all around, sharp and deadly. Anywhere they passed was left slashed and burned, and each impact made the room shake and rattle.

The onlookers stifled a cry.

Solaris’s two-dagger style was one worthy of praise. He was fast and precise, able to strike dozens of times before one could even notice.

Klaus was riddled with wounds all over his body, though most of them were shallow. His weapon was the chosen weapon of any Morningstar, a blade shaped like a U.

With that, he managed to keep up with his son, and even made him bleed.

He was smiling mockingly.

Solaris’s right hand shot forward, the wind slashing apart with his movement.

Klaus’s eyes glowed, and in one single motion he deflected the dagger with his blade to the left, trapping it in the pit of the U, then left his weapon hanging in the air and ducked down.

Above him his weapon exploded into a wave of golden fire, making the dagger fly out from Solaris’s grasp and land near the bundle of toys.

Solaris was blinded by the huge golden blast, his hand charred, while beneath him Klaus punched Solaris in the gut with his searing fists, causing Solaris’s stomach to bend inward before exploding into fire, sending him flying like a cannonball.

His back slammed against the wall with a thunderous impact, his bones cracked, making him vomit blood and organs. Klaus’s fire seeped deep inside him and began to melt his whole interior.

An agonizing cry erupted from Solaris’s throat, only to be drowned by the sound of air sizzling.

He raised his head just in time to see the ceiling of the room riddled with eyeballs made of fire, all glowing, about to shoot molten light of flame.

He tried to stand, staggering, only to finally notice Klaus standing at his right, his weapon back in hand, targeting his throat mercilessly.

“Anger is blindness, son,” Klaus mocked, only for his strike to be blocked by a colossal shield.

BAAAMM—!

Half of the shield exploded into a rain of splintered steel and woods, accompanied by growls of pain.

At the same time, Solaris managed to stop his insides from burning with his intent, then slashed the cloud of fire above with his only remaining dagger.

The sky of the room exploded into fireworks, and Solaris darted to the left, taking distance from Klaus.

Another being arrived beside him. He turned his head and saw Knight Tib with the broken shield, and he couldn’t help but feel relieved.

“Happy to see you,” Solaris said, and for the first time he was honest with his Knight.

Knight Tib nodded solemnly, “I am honored, Golden Son.”

Solaris smiled and looked back at Klaus. The man was not attacking, looking at them as if weighing down his options.

Solaris noticed how since the beginning of the fight, Klaus always led the battle away from his cluster of toys, and how they were always behind him.

‘So him too,’ he thought.

Solaris was not using his domain because of Neila, and his attacks were reduced in power for the same reason. He finally noticed that Klaus suffered the same restraint.

Each one of them was fighting with limited strength because of the ones they wanted to protect. Solaris found it strange to see his father act like this. But he would not refuse an opportunity to end this fight.

“You know what to do!” he barked to Knight Tib, then dashed toward Klaus, his feet enveloped in golden fire, leaving a trail of light.

At the same time, Knight Tib took his broken shield, shifted his stance, and threw it mercilessly at the cluster of toys.

The air wavered and bellowed under the weight of his throw.

The toys all shouted in absolute horror, some losing their sense of self and beginning to pee and cry.

Klaus snapped his head toward them, seeing his two new favorite toys about to be crushed by the shield. Gritting his teeth in anger and irritation, he raised his flaming index finger and pointed it at the approaching Solaris, his eyes mutating into two spheres of moving chains.

“Aspect — Chains of Timeless Fire.”

Instantly, deep golden-yellow chains emerged from the ground and wrapped tightly around the legs of Solaris. He cursed and fell immediately, at the same time sensing how heavy his body was, as if it was suddenly placed on slow mode.

The chains began to emit fire too, beginning to burn him whole. Knight Tib ran toward him.

Seeing the state of Solaris, Neila was crying her eyes out, painfully trying to stand under the weight of the power suffocating the room, wanting to approach her lover with the melting curtain clinging to her body.

Klaus, meanwhile, was already in front of his toys, snapping the shield away with the back of his hand.

He looked down at them, about to ask his two favorite toys if they were okay with his trademark lecherous smile, only for the words to die in his throat.

“W-What?” he breathed, his eyes sliding down to see a golden dagger piercing his heart, the dagger of Solaris he had sent flying earlier in the fight.

The dagger had gone deep into his heart, shredding it apart. And with the flame-poison inside the dagger, he was doomed.

Blood began to trickle down his lips, his eyes still wide with shock. Only then did he notice how calm his two favorite toys were. They were one male and one female, around the age of nine. They looked the same, showing they were twins.

The body of the young boy was covered in crimson webs of power, giving him the strength to pierce through the skin of Klaus.

Beside them, the other toys had their eyes dilating at the scene.

Soon understanding dawned upon Klaus. He laughed, only to cough blood, “N-No way,” he wheezed, his body unsteady as he kneeled sharply, “Spies?” he managed to ask.

Behind him, Solaris and Knight Tib watched this scene, surprised. The two toys didn’t even answer, taking everything in their hands and beginning to stab Klaus with anything they could grab.

Another toy, a bulky man with hatred burning in his eyes, ran toward the kneeling Klaus and kicked his private part with all his strength.

In his shock, Klaus was unable to react, watching slowly as his sexual toys stood up and, as if possessed by demons, began to stab, kick, and spit on him with venom in their veins.

“MONSTER!” an old woman, around sixty years old, bellowed, stabbing Klaus’s eyes.

“DIE DIE DIE! YOU VIOLATED ME! DIE!” a girl around eighteen screeched, biting off his ear.

“I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I WILL KILL YOU!!” a man around twenty took a shard of glass and stabbed Klaus’s private part.

Tears of blood were running down their cheeks as they tried to kill the one who destroyed their lives.

Watching this, Neila felt the need to go and do the same. She felt the need to give justice to herself for all the atrocities this man had done to her. Yet that thought died abruptly when a flicker of black fire danced at the edge of her vision.

She froze, turned her head, and saw a scene that choked the breath out of her.

Knight Tib, no… it was not the knight, it was a woman. Orange-haired and black-eyed, with black fire dancing on her body as she burned the chained Solaris with cold eyes.

“NO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!” Neila shrieked, running weakly toward Estelle burning Solaris, “WHO ARE YOU!”

Estelle didn’t care about a Wasted. Her black eyes were fixed on the golden trembling ones of Solaris. “This is the price of my freedom,” she whispered to him, “and this is also the price for giving power to a man who misused it.”

The black fire burned hotter and more sinisterly, seeping deep into Solaris’s body, about to consume him whole before suddenly…

Time stopped.

Estelle’s black fire screamed at her about the lethal danger. She immediately flew backward by detonating her fire under her feet, escaping just enough of the overwhelming madness intent that burst outward from Solaris.

The whole room began to crumble.

Solaris had awakened his Madness Intent.

Slamming her back into the door, Estelle didn’t even bother to look at Solaris’s state and immediately staggered up and ran away, feeling her mind about to be dragged into madness by overwhelming whispers.

And this time the whisper was no longer Aurora.

The whisper was only one of pure, unfiltered killing intent.

Klaus was already dead, killed pitifully by his toys. And his toys were soon dead, killed by the madness of Solaris, who was on the floor, his whole body burned to a crisp, leaving only some parts of it.

Surprisingly, only Neila was left untouched by the intent, for even in madness Solaris’s love for her was unbroken and untainted.

She managed to walk to him and kneeled at his side. Seeing Solaris’s state, she plastered her two hands on her face, trying to force back a cry.

At that moment she instinctively knew…

Solaris would die.

And that knowledge made her whimper in agony as she grasped Solaris’s bony hand within her embrace,

“M-My love?” she wheezed, and Solaris turned his head slowly toward her, showing half of it burned completely.

And yet…

“N-Neila…”

…he smiled at the sound of Neila calling him her love.

Neila wept harder.

She wept until the world itself began to weep alongside her, for it had acknowledged her suffering.
