Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Shattered Peace
Chapter 336 – Shattered Peace

It was a strange scene.

Lady Sora stood in front of Aurora’s room, the materials and products to clean her room already in her hand, ready to do her task. But obviously she couldn’t.

In front of the door stood the ugly dog, watching Lady Sora with its one functional, eerily intelligent eye. Above the dog, hovering lightly over its head, was the footless, immaculate ebony with deep crimson eyes.

The two beasts watched Lady Sora unwaveringly, clearly barring her entry.

And this was the seventh day in a row that this event was happening. Each time Lady Sora would try to sway away these strange beasts, but to no avail.

So this time, she didn’t say anything, knowing fully that these beasts would not listen. It was as if they were hiding something from her.

But, weirdly, she could sense the two auras of Aurora and Kaden inside the room. And sometimes, she could also hear them talk.

Yet it was strange, Lady Sora noticed. Their voices were monotone, and they used the same words over and over again.

At that time, if Lady Sora didn’t realize that both Aurora and Kaden were not in the house, then she would be a fool.

She looked again at the two beasts, “You too,” she whispered, smiling, tooth falling, “You are quite special, aren’t you?”

“One of you has one eye white and blinded, the other is a bird born without feet and constantly needs to flap its wings and hover in the air.”

As if the beasts were able to understand her words, they straightened their backs, as if proud of their own uniqueness. Uniqueness that would have been something they loathed, if they were not the beasts of Aurora, for she was the one who made them love their own imperfections.

Lady Sora smiled once more and turned on her heel, and strode away, “You are special.” She repeated again.

“You two are truly special.”

She finally disappeared from the view of the beasts as she walked toward the silver garden, for she could sense something strange in the sound of the wind that day.

At the same time, with each echo of her dragging feet on the floor, something was whispering inside her mind.

A small whisper. A soft and warm whisper.

“They peeked.” The voice whispered, “They peeked your mind.”

The whisper came with a terrible headache that made Lady Sora’s steps stagger a bit before she straightened back. Her face didn’t change, though a cold sweat trickled down her cheek despite the blinding sun above.

“Everything?” She asked, as she finally reached the silver garden.

“Not us.” It whispered back, “Not us. Not us.”

Lady Sora nodded, “Then it doesn’t matter. Let them walk their own path.”

“He is the one we waited for.” It whispered once more.

Lady Sora smiled widely, her tooth falling as she sat on her chair,

“Oh, but I know.”

She laughed.

“I know well.”

…

Meanwhile, inside Morningstar City, Soleil and Lady Green were slowly walking toward the Mansion of Lord Morningstar, guided by a Knight.

The Forest Knights of Lady Green were with her, and the Onyx region of Soleil was also with them, their black armor glistening like black fire under the undulating sun.

These two armies were walking faithfully behind Soleil, as if showing his authority and power over them. Even Lady Green was walking slightly behind Soleil, her pink eyes squinted into a crescent of amusement.

It was an act to show her allegiance to him. Yet Soleil only felt disgust, hatred, and most importantly fear at her act. He never knew Green was such a heartless monster.

He was walking toward the family of his father, the one family that helped him in his quest for the throne since the beginning… all to kill them?

If one could hear the cry of a soul, then surely one would be deaf after listening to Soleil’s slowly fracturing spirit. Yet his face smiled with eager happiness at the face of Lord Morningstar, who was waiting for them just at the mansion’s door.

“You came with honor and dignity, nephew.” Morningstar said, giving a wide hug to Soleil. Looking at them, one would undoubtedly notice how close they were.

Lord Morningstar was a rather short man, barely scratching 6ft. His hair was black but cut short, barely going past his ears, and his eyes were a deep, dirty yellow. His body was well-built, lean and slightly muscular, and at his waist hung a blade shaped like a U, the tips sharp and gleaming like liquid silver.

At his side was a woman — the same age as Soleil by appearance — with the same features as Lord Morningstar but with a rounder body. She was looking at Soleil with unmasked love. But when her yellow eyes drifted and settled on the smiling face of Lady Green, they immediately became venomous like a blue-ringed octopus.

“Lady Green,” Lord Morningstar saluted next, with a small nod of respect, “I am delighted to see you on the side of the winners.”

Lady Green mirrored his smile, “I am most delighted to be chosen by milord. Now, doubtlessly, we all know that this throne will belong to the First Prince.”

Morningstar clapped, happy beyond measure, “But yes, of course.” He said, then gestured with his hands toward the wide door made of yellow stone, “Now let’s enter, dear comrades. We have plans to make. Noelle, why don’t you attend to Lady Green?” He added, turning to address his daughter.

Noelle made an ugly face, but still complied.

Soleil smiled stiffly next to Morningstar, “Lead the way, uncle.”

Steadily, they entered the building with Morningstar leading the way. The soldiers stayed behind the doors, though all of them held eyes as cold as death when the door closed.

Once inside, Morningstar began to lead them into the meeting room. He walked beside Soleil and started speaking to him, his hands making all kinds of gestures.

Their footsteps echoed loudly in the enclosed space, painted in black and yellow, with stars scattered across the ceiling.

Behind the two men, Lady Green walked beside Noelle, who was looking at her with obvious distaste.

“Be careful, little girl.” Green whispered, “Your eyes might be gouged out if you look at others like this.”

Noelle scoffed, “And who will dare?” She barked, “You?”

Green only smiled, “I wouldn’t dare, would I?”

Noelle stepped closer to Green so her father wouldn’t hear her next words, and whispered with disconcerting boldness, “Soleil is mine.” She grated, her voice like fluttering dry leaves. “I had his first time and he had mine. I won’t give up on him. I will never.”

Lady Green fell silent for a moment. Then slowly — ever so slowly — her lips curled into a mocking grin as she leaned even closer, “Then I shall let you accompany him to the grave, little bitch.”

The words barely had time to register in Noelle’s mind before Lady Green grabbed her head with one iron-tight grip. Noelle yelped in shock, before shrieking as Lady Green grabbed her two yellow eyes with overwhelming cruelty, then ripped them from their sockets.

Crimson blood flowed with her movement, spraying the air before splattering across the ground.

“ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” Noelle’s mouth tore open in a pitiful howl as an unfathomable cry of pain bloomed through the mansion.

Instantly, Morningstar stopped in his tracks and snapped his head toward them. His heart skipped a beat as he found Noelle on her knees, shouting and crying and thrashing around like one corrupted by madness, with Lady Green smiling softly while looking at the yellow eyes in her hand.

Morningstar’s mind froze.

Green smiled, “Now, please, let’s finish this, shall we?”

As if on cue, outside, one could hear the cries of the people and the thunderous sound of battle.

Morningstar turned his head toward Soleil, only to receive a flaming punch straight to the face. His head snapped back, his nose cracked and broke, blood painted the air, all while he flew deep inside the house with whipping speed.

Far away, Green could feel the arrival of Epithet-realm beings and a few Grandmasters.

“I will deal with them.” Green said, and looked at Soleil, “Go kill your uncle for the greater good, little prince.”

Soleil’s eyes were crying tears of blood, yet Kaden’s blood oath made him unable to resist or disobey. So he flew toward Morningstar to finish him.

Green lowered her head next toward the wailing Noelle beneath her and whispered, “See, little bitch? Be careful how you look at others next, okay?”

Noelle whimpered.

Lady Green kicked her head mercilessly and it burst into a spray of blood and brain.

Noelle died.

Just at that time, Lady Green’s opponents arrived.

She took the green wooden staff from her space ring and took her stance. The staff shifted and became covered in green crystal.

“Now, now, now, let’s do our part, okay?”

She cackled, her green locks swaying wildly.

…

At the same exact time, in the real world, in Morningstar City, in the shadows of the Moon, Sirius was standing behind Morningstar in his own bedroom, dressed like an assassin in his all-black clothes.

“Why visit so late, Lord Sirius?” Lord Morningstar asked without turning his head, “And your attire… oh, quite stylish, isn’t it? Is it the new tendency of today’s youngsters?”

Sirius smiled, “I am here to honor my word and see your daughter, Lord Morningstar. But first…”

Behind him, at the window, the Moon shone with a silvery luster, bathing him lovingly.

At that instant, Sirius’s shape seemed to no longer be human, becoming instead that of a deep, ferocious beast with eyes colder than frost.

“Let’s have a gentlemanly talk, shall we?”

Morningstar grinned, “The subject?”

Sirius shrugged, the room slowly becoming veiled by darkness with frost creeping along the walls and floor, “How about how you want to die?”

Morningstar fell silent for a heartbeat, then…

“Can I say by being choked with your—!”

BAAAAAMMMM—!

Sirius attacked, and the whole mansion of Morningstar exploded into frost and shifting darkness. High above, the Moon seemed to glow with an even greater luster, and the howling of beasts echoed all around.

Outside the city, Luna activated a massive barrier to hide the event unfolding within.

The purge of Morningstar had begun.

And that, in two timelines.

…

Meanwhile, back in the Mythic Quest. High in the sky, Shamsi Appolonia Asterion — The Sun Empress — had her eyes darting around both Silver City and Morningstar City.

Standing where she stood, and with her level of power, and with the sun glowing blindingly above her, the Sun Empress could see things beyond the bounds of the capital.

Her golden-white eyes began to flicker sporadically like a restless fire, noticing the two battles happening in Silver and Morningstar City. She didn’t need anyone to tell her what was happening.

Her Empire was being attacked. And the fragile peace that had been surrounding the Empire was finally shattered into pieces.

Not only that…

‘A weird feeling,’ she mused, looking inside the capital itself, sensing the legacy she obtained when she was young acting restlessly. The white in her eyes intensified.

Not truly understanding the strange feeling and unwilling to waste time on it, the Sun Empress decided to use this moment of chaos she felt slowly brewing in her Empire to accomplish a task she had always wanted.

Her eyes shifted and looked deep into the royal castle, inside a room she felt reluctant to gaze into because of how disgusting it was.

“And now,” she uttered, smiling with deep coldness, “your life has now expired.” She finished, raised her hand to the sky, then slowly clenched her palm into a tight fist.

The process was slow, as if an invisible force was defying her.

In Klaus’s chamber, one could see him suddenly freezing in stillness, his breath caught in his throat. Next, the temperature of his body began to rise to the point he was being heated and melting on the inside, his face painted in deep red.

His toys around him began to disperse, shocked by the unexpected scene. White fire whispered into existence and began to lick all over his body but at that instant… everything stopped.

Klaus fell on the ground weakly, chest heaving up and down, while high in the sky, the Sun Empress looked coldly at the man in front of her.

“What are you doing here, Sirius?” Shamsi asked, her aura rising at each passing second.

Space began to melt.

Sirius, wrapped in cloaked darkness and frost, sighed, “You know the laws, Shamsi.” He said her name as if very familiar with her.

“And you know also our duty,” he added, “you cannot kill a member of an Asterion as an Asterion. You know that, so as an Empress what are you doing?”

Shamsi’s eyes were becoming colder and colder, the temperature rising exponentially all over the capital, as the sun itself began to burn hotter.

“It’s not you who was cheated on and humiliated in front of all who could see during all these years, Sirius.” She growled, “It’s not you who slept at night with the moans of your husband being pleased by some goddamn men and women at the other side of the room.”

Sirius’s lips pressed into a thin line.

“It’s not you, Sirius. So don’t come here talking about laws when you watched him do all of this. You didn’t act then, but you dare to act now?”

“He didn’t, technically, breach any laws,” Sirius defended himself, “I had no right to intervene.”

“Then you shall have no right to do so now.” Shamsi retorted coldly, her eyes spinning like swirling balls of sun, “I am the Sun Empress, I am the Law. And today, Klaus Morningstar will perish and you, Sirius Moonborn, if you dare to stand in my way.”

Sirius sighed inwardly again.

“Laws exist to be respected, Shamsi,” he tried to explain, “you know it’s for the greater good of all of us. We can find another way to this. One not resulting in killing another Asterion.”

Shamsi didn’t speak again. All the words she needed to say were said. She only stared at Sirius, a golden flaming whip appearing in her right hand,

“So you have chosen death.” She muttered.

“I am sorry,” Sirius answered.

Next…

“Aspect — The Sun.”

At Shamsi’s words, the sun that was hanging above the capital was plucked from the sky and slowly began to descend, standing behind Shamsi.

The buildings and the people of the capital began to melt, with the world covered in a hazy fog of orange hue.

“Aspect — The Moon.”

Instantly, the world darkened, veiled by darkness. The moon, supposed to rise later, appeared on the sky with the night on its tail, before it too was detached from the heavens and appeared behind Sirius.

The capital thus began to freeze, shadows appeared and began to dance.

With the Sun and the Moon so close to each other, the Aspects of both Shamsi and Sirius so powerful that the space between them creaked, cracked, then splintered into broken floating shards of space.

In their place, a swirling mass of void was birthed, immaculate black in its color and dreadful in the power it emitted. And it swallowed both Shamsi and Sirius into another layer of reality, for their battle was far too harrowing for the world to bear.

Thus, the battle between Sun and Moon began.
