Chapter 334: Chapter 334: Rising Storm
Chapter 334 – Rising Storm

To not attract too much attention on him, the First Prince Soleil only brought with him his greatest knight, a knight standing at the same level of rank as him, though less powerful because of a lesser bloodline and weaker intent.

So it was with him — Knight Marcus, he was called — that he accompanied Lady Green in their destination toward a small city called Leaf Town, a place under the authority of Green City, where they were supposed to meet Aurora.

The travel was fast, as the two cities were not so far away, and with their level of power, that simple distance could be breached in one breath.

So around thirty minutes after departing, the trio already found themselves inside the city, walking leisurely amidst the folks, their attire that of commoners.

“I forgot to inquire,” Soleil grunted as he put back in place the weird lousy shirt, “how did this information reach you?” he demanded, their legs guiding them to where Aurora was supposed to be, his mind already thinking of how he should kill her.

Knight Marcus was walking beside his lord at his right, his face twisting into one tight frown. He didn’t know why, but he had a nasty feeling from the moment his prince told him the news, and that feeling got even worse the very second they stepped into this town.

He shifted his black eyes inside their sockets, watching the plebeians, the houses made of rock and wood, the merchants, the children playing, the mothers shouting, the guards barking orders…

…all of these looked like any normal town.

Yet Knight Marcus only felt his entrails knotting tightly, choking his breath from the inside.

Something was brewing. And the scent was rotten.

His senses, at least, told him so. And every time he heard the sweet voice of Lady Green… that sensation became even stronger.

Doubtlessly,

‘We are missing something,’ he hissed inwardly, his black-streaked white moustache twitching, ‘something vital.’

His fists instinctively wrapped around the pair of daggers resting at his waist.

“Oh, how do I know?” Lady Green echoed Soleil’s question, bringing back Knight Marcus into focus. “I have all my cities under tight control. So, naturally, I know who enters and who doesn’t. Especially if Leaf Town is a small one, rarely would you notice visitors. And…”

She smiled and pointed at her pink eyes, “…without forgetting my unique gift of easily sensing and recognizing the mana of others.”

Their steps were unhurried and quiet, the noises swallowed by the ones of the town. Steadily, they were approaching a wide inn-like building at the far end of the street.

At her words, Soleil only grunted in acknowledgment, finding logic in them. He looked once more at her face, more precisely at her ears, and saw them not at the same length as normal humans.

They were more sharp and long, though not as long as those of elves. But this characteristic showed her nature.

Lady Green was a half-elf, as all her ancestors had been. And those people were known for their incredible mana sensitivity.

He nodded again. Yet Lady Green was not done, as just as they arrived in front of the wooden door of the green-black inn, she parted her lips once more,

“And yes, she was not alone,” she murmured. “She was with one being who… felt more like someone dead than alive. The guards told me they seemed to have seen his mouth sewn shut.”

She finished her words at the same time the door yawned open, revealing the inside of the inn.

There, inside, dozens of beings sat scattered around tables, eating, drinking, and talking leisurely over wine and food.

The atmosphere was lively and peaceful, filled with friendly banters. And that, even after the arrival of the trio.

Once more, Knight Marcus felt something extremely wrong. His body was shivering unconsciously, feeling something cold and alien creeping inside his mind.

Soleil, meanwhile, had his eyes fixed on one pair sitting at the far end, at the right of the inn, their faces hooded.

His golden eyes went cold, sensing the unique aura of a Starborn, his own bloodline tingling, but also the same sensation he felt in those monsters under Lord Silver.

That meant only one thing: Aurora had walked the path far enough to discover the dealings of Lord Silver.

As these thoughts consolidated inside his mind, Soleil snapped his head toward Lady Green, his body already blurring, the space around him folding upon itself.

“You will forgive me, Lady Green, but I have no mind to care about the lives of those folks around,” he growled, making the customers of the inn look at them, “Save them, before they turn into golden ashes.”

Before his words even echoed in the air, he was already above the two hooded duo, his right palm painted with a colorful gilded light, making him unable to hear the answer of Lady Green.

“Ah, forgive me too, Milord.”

Her eyes squinted into pure malice as she turned her head toward Knight Marcus, whose daggers were already in his hands, his face filled with unknown apprehension.

Lady Green’s hand swirled like a vicious whip and took hold of his neck in a heartbeat. Knight Marcus squealed in surprise, his hands tightening around his daggers as he swung them toward Lady Green.

Yet before he even finished his strike, Lady Green yanked him toward her viciously, her forehead crystallizing into green shining diamond, and gave Knight Marcus a thunderous headbutt, causing a cracking sound to echo sinisterly, followed by the Knight’s skull raining down crimson blood.

Lady Green snapped her head backward, her green locks swaying wildly, and laughed.

Meanwhile, the people in the inn all now had eerie blank faces, looking at the scene with chilling calm, reflecting no emotions.

Soleil was already sensing something wrong when his hand coiled around the neck of one of the hooded beings and whipped the hood off, making him see the beautiful and stunning brown freckled face of Aurora.

His heart skipped an involuntary beat at her beauty, buried feelings rising inside his chest, but all of that changed into wrenching dread as, at the corner of his eye, he saw Knight Marcus on his knees, his head spilling thick beads of blood, Lady Green laughing maniacally at his side, and also…

“What?” He instinctively wanted to take a step back, but found himself unable to.

Aurora smiled sharply.

“Ah, and you call yourself a prince?” She brushed his hand off her neck. “One wanting to be emperor, no less? Then we might as well let our enemies conquer us.” Her voice was filled with disdain, each of her words making Soleil realize with chilling clarity that he was unable to do anything to her.

His body was frozen. As if it no longer belonged to him… as if he was…

“Slave.” Lady Green cackled behind him, her green locks swinging with her head.

“Did you forget your oath, little boy? You should never betray an ally. And you attacking one with the intent of killing is…”

Aurora slowly stood from the chair and whispered into his ear,

“…betraying your ally, dear prince.”

The other hooded being facing Aurora took back his hood, showing a simple human with no characteristic of the doundou, but with the same blank face as all the rest around him.

At that instant, Soleil realized harrowingly that he had been fooled. A deep seething anger began to boil inside his being, one so hot that if his body was not controlled he would have put this whole city into nothing but a flame that would reach the heavens.

He glared at Lady Green with hatred far too pure to be one born just now, “You betrayed me,” he said through gritted teeth, “you dared to betray me!” he bellowed.

Yet Lady Green slowly walked behind the still-alive Knight Marcus and put her hands on both sides of his head, then with a wide smile directed toward Soleil,

“I never betrayed you,” she said, and twisted the head of Knight Marcus a full 360 degrees.

“Prin—!”

CRACK—!

Thud.

“I was with Lady Aurora and Lord Prometheus since the beginning.” She smiled, “Since, in fact, you dared to look down on me and said to me you will marry me as if it was an honor.”

“After all, during those one week you spent waiting for my answer…”

Aurora slowly started to walk away, Soleil following behind her like a dog to his master without even wanting to,

“…it was because she was with us,” Aurora continued Lady Green’s words, “discussing how to make the First Prince of the Celestial Empire a slave. And now…”

Aurora exited outside the inn. There too, all the folks wore a blank face, staring at them eerily without feelings.

Soleil shivered at the sight.

“We shall let no evidence of this, right?” Aurora whispered.

“Lord Prometheus is truly scary,” Lady Green smiled sharply, “to think he would have the ability to mind-manipulate all the people of this city. How high is his Will?”

Aurora grinned, “High enough to convince you to be his agent, with the Seed of Forest as a bargain.” Her smile turned loving, “High enough to go against a whole Empire for me.”

Then she turned, looking down at Soleil with scorn and disdain,

“High enough to be at that moment alone with an Elderling, trying to bring him down.”

At that, Soleil shifted his head toward her, shocked to hear such words. Elderling? Who would dare to go against such a being?

Even Lady Green had a wry smile. She herself knew the horror of an Elderling. After all, she was just two percent away in her divinity comprehension from stepping into that stage.

And even without reaching it, she could kill dozens of Epithet realm beings if she was serious. So…

“Will he be okay?” she asked. Not worried for him, but for the Seed of Forest he promised to give her, as she would need it to bridge the gap in her divinity comprehension to become an Elderling.

And she had already betrayed a prince, she needed that, otherwise things would get nasty.

At her question, Aurora smiled confidently and started to walk away, “I have no doubt about him,” she said. “Let’s go, in two minutes the minds of these folks will regain their original thoughts. We need to disappear before that.”

Then with Lady Green taking the neck of Soleil with a mocking smile and the limping body of Knight Marcus, she disappeared alongside Aurora.

…

While all of that was happening in Leaf Town, Lord Prometheus himself was sprawling on a puddle of slick blood, looking at the man standing above him, his silver eyes looking at him as if he was a wretched worm.

Kaden’s body was riddled with wounds, blood gouging out all over his head, where a crack on it was clearly visible. Around him, there were other dead silver-robed beings, their hearts snatched out with cruelty.

On his right hand was an object, an artifact to be more precise. It was shaped like sewed eyes, the closed eyelids bearing the mark 33.

At his hand, the artifact was immeasurably heavy, making him unable to do anything and thus his current state.

Frustration and anger swirling around his throat.

Lord Silver, meanwhile, leaned forward and took the artifact from his hand, “You are not worthy of touching this divine artifact, filth.”

Kaden smiled crookedly, “Not even sweating? Not even your domain or Aspect?”

He laughed brokenly, “Is that an Elderling?”

Lord Silver’s face twisted into one of deep scorn, “Elderling?” he hissed as he raised his right foot then,

“I showed you the power of a Master, you filth.”

The foot fell.

SPLASH—!

Kaden’s head burst into a rain of blood.

[You are dead.]
