Chapter 198: The Letter
Jayden sat by the edge of his desk, his fingers drumming against the polished wood. The room was silent, but his head was anything but. The words from the call still echoed inside him.

Royce…

Of all people, it had been him. Not an old ally, not one of the underground contacts, not even a spy from another nation, but Royce.

The very man who had spent years mocking his pain, who had sworn to make his life a living hell back in the days of Sky High University and almost made that a success.

Yet here he was, alive after exile, reaching out across the shadows with information no one else could provide.

Jayden leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples. How did he even survive the exile? How is he walking freely on Earth again?

He pushed the thought aside, for the bigger question pressed down on him harder. Why me? Why does he care to pass this message to me, of all people?

Moments later, one of his aides entered with a small team of guards. In the man’s hand was an old envelope, sealed with dust and faint creases.

“Sir,” the aide said respectfully, placing the letter before him. “Recovered exactly as you ordered. Gregory Kingsley’s abandoned estate, third drawer of the study room. We swept the place thoroughly. No tampering.”

Jayden nodded, dismissing them with a gesture. He held the envelope for a moment, staring at the uneven handwriting scrawled across it. It was Royce’s, without a doubt. He tore it open carefully, unfolding the paper inside.

The first line made his blood run cold.

“Over eighty thousand soldiers with highly advanced war mech suits are going to descend. They have been toughly trained to the point of perfection, and would stop at nothing to bring the entire world to the ground without sparing a thought.”

His eyes moved swiftly, absorbing every detail. Royce described them vividly… Soldiers unlike any Earth had ever faced, clad in technology that fused seamlessly with their bodies, their suits capable of destruction that rivaled armies.

But it wasn’t the number, nor the machines, that froze him.

It was the next words:

“They have some special power that could help them obtain things from nowhere. The Power of the Absolute. This people have reached the peak of technology, and could do anything that are magical. But trust me, it isn’t magic. I believe there’s a way to kill that power.”

Jayden’s hand trembled slightly as he lowered the paper. He didn’t find that word easy at all, because it came with a weight of something he couldn’t imagine.

And then, in Royce’s sharp, almost mocking script, the letter continued.

“I know you have something in you, Jayden. The Absolute Guide. It’s been helping you succeed since the very day you got it. You deserve it. I know who gave it to you, and sure, you should know why you have gotten it. The world needs you now, Jayden.”

Jayden froze.

His chest tightened, his breath slowing. How does he know? How could he possibly know? Jayden didn’t knew it as the Absolute Guide, but the Infinite Wealth System, right? And there was no way he could say that those words aren’t straightly associated.

But the fact that he claimed to know who gave him the Absolute Guide or whatever he had called it, made Jayden even stunned the more.

The biggest fear he had at that point was for the system coming from the same people that are trying to attack Earth.

Things might just get too complicated at that point, and sure, he would want to know more from Royce.

And then, the final line hit like a nail hammered into stone.

“I’ll give you more information before The Shield breaks.”

Jayden placed the letter gently back on the desk, his eyes fixed on nothing. He didn’t need to be told what the Shield was.

He knew.

The Shield was the great invisible barrier that had kept the Sovereign Protocols, the higher power Royce spoke of, from descending on Earth. It was the last layer of defense, one that wasn’t Earth’s own doing but rather the limits of interdimensional timing. Without it, humanity would have already been wiped clean.

“Ten days,” Jayden whispered under his breath. That was what the system’s countdown had been showing him. Ten days until it broke. Eleven days until Earth faced hell itself.

The door creaked open again, and Harper’s voice broke the heavy air.

“You’re too quiet, Jayden. What did it say?”

Behind her, Camilia followed in, her usual calm expression tinged with worry. They both sat across from him, waiting.

Jayden looked at them, these two women who had chosen to follow him into storms, and drew in a long breath. He passed the letter across the table.

“Read it.”

They leaned close, eyes moving quickly. Harper’s hand flew to her mouth as she finished. “Eighty thousand… with mechs this powerful…” She looked up at him, her eyes wide. “And… What is the Absolute Guide about?”

Camilia’s gaze was sharper, more controlled, but the flicker of shock was there too. “The Absolute Guide. What the hell is that?”

Jayden leaned forward, his voice steady though his insides twisted.

“It’s something I’m gonna have to tell you guys about soon enough,” he said.

They both nodded, and then switched topic.

“Now you understand why I couldn’t ignore this. He knows things he shouldn’t. And he’s promising more before the Shield breaks.”

Harper shook her head, disbelief flooding her mind. “Royce? Of all people? He used to… He hated you, Jayden. How can you even—”

“Exactly,” Jayden cut in, his tone low. “That’s what makes it all the more real. Royce doesn’t hand out favors. If he’s doing this, it means what he’s saying is the truth.”

Silence held the room for a moment. The letter sat between them like a blade no one wanted to touch again.

Finally, Harper broke it. “So… what do we do?”

Jayden exhaled slowly, his gaze hardening with resolve. “We prepare. We don’t waste a second. We use every ally, every resource, every ounce of will we have. And when the Shield falls, we’ll be ready.”

As if on cue, the door opened again. A guard stepped in, his posture unusually stiff.

“Sir… The Vice President of Nestonia is here. He requests a private audience.”

Jayden’s brow furrowed. “Taylor?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Send him in.”

Moments later, Taylor entered the office room, tall and composed in a dark suit. There was something resolute in his stride, something that made Harper and Camilia exchange quick glances. He didn’t wait for pleasantries.

“President Jayden,” Taylor began, his voice firm. “I came to tell you that Nestonia will stand with you. We’ve seen enough. We know the threat is real.”

Jayden narrowed his eyes slightly. “That’s a strong change of heart. Just days ago your President dismissed me outright.”

Taylor’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Nolan is… not in the way anymore.”

Jayden leaned back slowly, reading between the lines. “Not in the way… meaning?”

Taylor met his gaze without hesitation, giving a smile that held some diplomacy.

“Meaning he was never the kind of leader we needed. And he won’t be leading Nestonia any longer. I won’t spell it out, but you can take my presence here as confirmation.”

Cammy stiffened beside Jayden, but Harper tilted her head slightly, studying Taylor’s calm expression.

Jayden folded his arms, his voice steady. “So you’re saying Nestonia is in. And not just in, but ready to unite with the Independent Society.”

“Yes,” Taylor said, his tone unwavering. “Nestonia, and the rest of the Independent Society’s nations, will align with you. We’ll stand against what’s coming.”

The way he said it, the straight sincerity in his words. The look.

It had said it all… Now at this point there was no doubt at all. The Independent Society was in, and that… That was the best of news Jayden wanted to hear at this point in time.

For the first time that day, Jayden felt something shift deep inside him. Not relief, not triumph, but a firm certainty.

A foundation being laid stone by stone.

“Good,” he said quietly. “Then you understand what this means. We’re halfway there. Half ready, and we would need to prepare our forces, together.”

Taylor gave a single nod. “And with you at the center, we’ll make it all the way.”

With that, Taylor left.

As the Vice President left the room, Jayden sat back, the weight of the letter still pressing on his mind. Royce’s words, the Shield’s countdown, and now the nations falling in line.

The pieces were moving. The storm was closer.

But surely, Earth wouldn’t face it divided.
