Chapter 377: Are You Kidding Me?!! 2
BAM!

A fist-sized rock smashed into the side of his head. The impact was sickening. It threw Sunny off balance, his vision flashing white, and he collapsed five yards from the gate.

”What… What was that?!” He growled, clutching his head, blood flowing from the injury and blinding his left eye.

SCREECH!!

He turned around, seeing the spear-like leg of the giant spider descending towards him to pin him to the earth. Without hesitation, purely on survival instinct, he rolled to the side.

BAM!!!!

The leg smashed into the ground, digging deep into the blackened soil, sending up a plume of dust.

Sunny coughed from the smoke, and quickly got to his feet, swaying dizzily. He looked over his shoulder, seeing smaller spiders holding stones in their human-like front appendages. They were learning. They were using tools.

’You got to be kidding me!’

He used his remaining strength, biting his lip until it bled, and dragged his body to the gate.

SCREECH!!!

The spiders weren’t ready to give up yet. At that exact moment, the huge spider sent out all its front legs towards Sunny in a final, crushing embrace. Sunny, completely exhausted, stared at the legs over his shoulder. There was nowhere left to dodge.

But before the blow could land, before he could force himself to move, the dark clouds covering the Sun finally moved.

It was as if a curtain had been pulled back. The sunlight bathed on him like a holy light from an unknown paradise.

Sunny stood still, squinting against the sudden brightness, watching as the sunlight shone on his face, and illuminated the monsters chasing him.

SCREECH!!!!!

The sound changed from aggression to pure agony. They all screamed in pain, their carapaces smoking as the solar energy struck them. They scattered all over the place, searching for any dark space or shadow to hide.

Sunny stood still, and watched the huge spider and the others who were faraway from any shadow.

Crack. Snap.

Their flesh turned gray. The huge spider froze mid-strike, its momentum lost as its biological matter hardened instantly into solid stone.

He stood, watching as they struggle helplessly, and froze up, statues of a nightmare that almost claimed him.

Sunny exhaled, his knees buckling, and continued dragging his body to the gate. The blood from his head was obstructing his view, painting the world in a red haze. But even with this, he kept on moving till he passed the gate.

He stepped through the archway and left the infested land behind.

The transition was jarring. He appeared in a green field, a paradise filled with nothing but vibrant flowers and fresh air that smelled of jasmine and grass. The hellscape was gone.

Sunny looked up at the clear blue sky, so different from the oppressive red one, then at the center of the field, seeing the artifact he was looking for.

”So irony.” He muttered, limping towards the rock where the artifact was sitting… His blood dripping down, staining the pristine flowers below.

_

Sunny stopped in front of the rock. He blinked in surprise, rubbing his bloodied eyes to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating.

He was staring at a bottle of wine sitting elegantly on the rock.

”I hope I am not seeing things.” He muttered to himself.

He stretched his hand, his trembling fingers taking the bottle. It was cool to the touch. Sunny stared at the label, a deep frown forming on his battered face.

”Isn’t this Domaine de la Romanée-Conti… The most expensive wine?” He whispered, recognizing the label from his past life. “This is on earth right?” He asked himself in confusion, staring at the bottle.

”Correct!”

The voice came from behind him. Sunny turned around, seeing Ezekiel.

The God of death looked immaculate, untouched by the grime and horror Sunny had just survived. He held one crystal glass cup in his hand, and stretched it to Sunny.

”Now kid, it’s time to serve your master.” He said, a smirk playing on his lips.

Sunny blinked. His mind was reeling. The adrenaline crash, the blood loss, the sheer absurdity of it all hit him at once.

He risked his life for weeks… fought god-rank spiders… nearly died a dozen times… just for one bottle of wine!!!

”Are you mad?!!” He yelled at the God of death.

“….?!!”

Ezekiel blinked at his outburst, surprised by the lack of reverence.

”You sent me out there for a wine?!!!” Sunny yelled, his voice cracking, his exhaustion turning into a white-hot anger.

”Do you know what I passed through!! And you even dare ask me to serve it to you!!”

He stared at the cup in Ezekiel’s hand and snatched it away. With a fluid, angry motion, he opened the bottle. The cork popped with a rich sound. But instead of pouring it for the God, he poured it into the cup he had snatched.

”You want me to?! Ok then!!”

He opened his mouth and poured the whole drink in his mouth, the liquid burning his throat in the best way possible.

”Huh?” The God of death was stunned speechless, his hand still outstretched.

”You want it?!” Sunny poured himself another glass, the expensive red liquid splashing over the rim, and gulped it all down again.

”Hey! I kept that wine there for you to serve me!!” Ezekiel yelled in shock, finally breaking his composure. He pointed his finger at Sunny, who was still drinking Domaine de la Romanée-Conti like it was cheap water.

”This is your punishment!!” Sunny yelled back at him, wiping wine and blood from his mouth.

’Punishment? Ok, this kid is getting more interesting,’ Ezekiel thought, his shock fading into amused curiosity.

He folded his arms on his chest, watching the defiant mortal.

”Do you know why I can get this wine?” Ezekiel asked.

The question was heavy, carrying a weight that cut through Sunny’s anger. It stopped Sunny on track, the bottle halfway to his lips.

”I can get this wine because Earth is amongst the realms…” Ezekiel said, his eyes gleaming with a secret knowledge. “Meaning, you can still return to that world.”

The words stunned Sunny, the bottle nearly slipping from his grasp. The Earth… was accessible?
