Infinite wealth In A New World - Chapter 374
Chapter 374: Lone Walker
Sunny froze, his fingers digging into the razor-sharp rock. He slowly turned his head, his heart hammering against his ribs. Hovering behind him, defying the violent winds of the abyss, was the snake-like lightning, staring at him with its eerie-looking eyes.
’I am so fucking dead,’ he thought, his body locking up in anticipation of the strike.
But to his surprise, the creature didn’t attack. The snake vanished after staring at him for ten seconds, a span of time that was like an eternity to Sunny.
High above the mountain, atop the jagged peak, the God of Death raised an eyebrow at the scene below.
”Why did it let him go free? This hasn’t happened before,” he muttered in surprise, his red eyes narrowing.
BOOM!!
The thunder rolled, shaking the very foundations of the mountain.
”I knew it won’t let him off,” the God stated again, watching as the lightning snake materialized once more near the climbing mortal. But to his shock, just as it coiled to strike, it vanished.
”What the?!” He was stunned. The guardian of the mountain never showed mercy.
Sunny kept on moving down, forcing his trembling limbs to obey. He ignored the crackle of ozone and the flashing lightning, his guard still high, as he moved lower into the gloom.
’No matter what! I will make it!!’
He kept chanting the words like a mantra, a lifeline to keep his sanity intact as he descended. 1,000 meters. 500 meters. Finally, he reached the last stretch, 100 meters below the ground. His hands were shaking violently, his skin slick with cold sweat all over his body.
BOOM!!
He looked up, gasping, seeing the lightning staring at him from a jagged outcropping, pulsating with energy, before it vanished again.
”I don’t know what is wrong with that creature, but thank goodness It didn’t attack me,” he wheezed, his throat dry. He lowered his gaze to the cracked earth below.
”Just a little bit!”
He turned his head to the west, staring at the setting red sun. The red light cast long, skeletal shadows across the cliff face.
”I must move faster,” he continued, gritting his teeth against the exhaustion.
BOOOM!
On the mountain top, the God of Death stood waiting. He turned to the lightning snake which appeared beside him in a flash of blinding light.
”Are you losing your edge?” He asked with a slight frown, watching as Sunny jumped the last few meters to the ground. The mortal landed on his feet with a heavy thud, stumbled, and then dropped to his knees, breathing heavily, completely spent.
The lightning moved away from the clouds and began to shift. The pure energy coalesced, solidifying into flesh and fabric. It took the form of a beautiful young lady, dressed in an ancient, elegant Japanese outfit that seemed woven from storm clouds. Two small horns protruded from her forehead, and her eyes remained vertical slits—snake eyes. She tucked her hands hidden in the clothes, her posture respectful yet defiant.
The lady blinked, turning her head to look at the exhausted Sunny, then at the God.
”Did you forget he has my master in him?” She asked, her voice sounding like distant thunder, staring at the God of Death.
”Shit! I forgot Elemental Prism had merged with him!”
The God of Death facepalmed, the realization hitting him. “That explains where his strength comes from. Even if he’s now an ordinary human, the residue of a God’s essence remains. He could climb such a mountain… Climbing down a mountain is even harder than going up, but he did it.”
He raised his head to the crimson sky and burst out laughing, the sound echoing across the wasteland.
”Hahahaha!! That explains everything! Even if he’s just a human, he still has a God in him! This guy is truly interesting!” He said with a laugh.
”I have been observing him,” the Lightning Spirit said softly. “He has a strong will. It also shows why my master picked him as her successor… But Letting him descend the abyss mountain without power? Don’t you think it’s crazy?” She asked, looking up at him, her gaze cold and questioning.
”Hahaha!! Do you think I am your master? I don’t know how she tested him, but mine…”
His laughter died down, replaced by a terrifying seriousness. His eyes narrowed as he stared at Sunny, who had collapsed into unconsciousness on the dirt.
”He will have to bleed for it… Having my powers is like having the world at your hands. Both life and death becomes meaningless to you… You will be the strongest… When I told him I am amongst the top three strongest, he was so shocked.”
”Huh?” The girl looked confused, tilting her head. “You aren’t amongst the top three strongest… You are so powerful you can’t even be placed in the rankings.”
She exhaled, a small, knowing smile appearing on her face.
”I understand. My master is top 3 strongest… Now I know.” She turned to Sunny, then moved her gaze on the Infested Land stretching out before him. “But still…”
”Don’t ask,” The God interrupted, cutting her off. “We will see if he can pass this last obstacle.”
With that said, he began to ascend into the air. He paused, looking down at the spirit.
”When the time comes! You will have a new master! Make sure to pay your respect.” He said, looking down at her.
”Lord Ezekiel?! You just… Do you acknowledge him?” She asked in surprise, her eyes widening.
The God simply stared at her for a lingering second, and vanished.
”…..?!”
She stared at the blank red sky, stunned by the revelation. Lord Ezekiel, the God of Death, rarely acknowledged anyone. She lowered her gaze to the sleeping Sunny.
”If this person succeeds. Even the heavens will bow at his feet,” she muttered.

[The Next Day.]
[7:20 PM.]
Sunny slowly opened his eyes. His body ached, but the sharp, agonizing pain of the climb had dulled into a manageable throb. He stared at the Infested Land before him.
It was a nightmare made real. The ground was blackened, as if scorched by hellfire, and the terrain was filled with weirdly shaped rock formations that looked like petrified screams. He had been so tired after touching the ground that he had simply fallen asleep out of sheer exhaustion right where he landed.
Sunny stood up, dusting off the gray ash from his clothes.
With his strength restored—not his magic, but his physical vitality—he knew he could pass this test. The sleep had reset his stamina. True, he has no idea of what’s waiting for him if he cross the rocks and enter the land, but no matter what it was; he was ready.
With a determined step, he started walking, his gaze determined, unaware of the eyes watching him from above.

[On the Mountain Peak.]
The Lightning Snake, back in her spirit form, slowly moved her eyes, following Sunny as he entered the forbidden land.
She frowned, sensing a disturbance in the atmosphere. She raised her head to the blood-red sky. There, hidden behind the veil of the dimension, were countless colorful eyes—ancient, eldritch entities staring down at the mortal walker. They were hungry, watching for a moment of weakness, but none dared enter Lord Ezekiel’s domain.
”So annoying,” she muttered under her breath, shaking her head lightly at the audacity of the watchers.
”Power hungry pigs.” She added under her breath, turning her attention back to the lone human walking into hell.
