Chapter 314: The Price of Power
[Auction House – Grand Hall.]

Everyone watched in stunned silence as Sunny calmly raised his Royal Banking Gemstone, and placed it against the bank stone on the table.

[Payment successful. Transaction confirmed: 900,000,000,000,000 Gold Coins.]

”….?!!!”

”Impossible! Impossible!” Michael stammered, his face draining of color. He had just witnessed a number he didn’t believe existed outside of royal treasuries paid for a single item.

”It is not impossible,” Sunny said, his smirk confident. “Now, where is that dagger you mentioned?”

”Yes. Young Master Michael, you wouldn’t go back on your word, would you?” Qin Wei asked, her tone laced with a sharp, sneering superiority. She looked over her shoulder at Michael, emphasizing his public humiliation.

Michael glared at her, then glanced at Sunny’s table, noticing Qin Li’s intimate placement. ‘So, the Qin family is already allied with this monster…’

He took a deep, steadying breath, and threw the God-Rank dagger at Sunny’s table, controlling its flight flawlessly with his spirit energy until it landed with a soft thud.

”I always keep my words,” Michael stated, his face flat and emotionless, though he was boiling inwardly. He stood up without another word and walked out of the hall, the silence a crushing weight on his defeat.

”Young Master Michael is too generous; I gained two items today,” Sunny remarked, then tossed the red dagger toward Qin Li, who caught it purely out of instinct.

”I don’t need a dagger. You can have it,” Sunny stated.

”Wow! Thanks, Sir Alex!” Qin Li exclaimed, eyes wide. He drew the blade from the sheath—it shimmered with deadly intent. “So sharp, worthy of a God-Rank weapon. Thank you very much, Michael!” he called out to the empty doorway, savoring the victory and the wealth.

{Congratulations, Master completed the first quest: Gained one billion EXP.}

[Human Kingdom’s Capital. Council Hall – Royal Palace.]

Inside the Council Hall, five figures sat around a dark mahogany table: the three male council members and two women, one of whom was the Head of the Council, a powerful Seventh Order powerhouse. The atmosphere was one of despair and fear.

”What are we going to do now?!” one of the women asked with a frown, her hand trembling on the table.

”There is nothing we can do,” one man said darkly, running a hand through his hair. “We aren’t strong enough to fight the Wendigos or the Elves, let alone the Child of Destruction.”

”He just sent an order, demanding we shift the Competition to two weeks from now!” the second lady snapped, indignation fighting with terror. “Isn’t that going too far?! He is simply looking down on us!”

”We know, but what can we do?!” another council member countered, staring directly at the Head of the Council.

“We are all Sixth Order powerhouses, and the Head is a Seventh Order, but we still don’t have the strength to defeat a Ninth Order powerhouse like the Child of Destruction, even if we all joined forces.”

The Head of the Council, a formidable Seventh Order woman, clenched her fists, her pride wounded. “I am a Seventh Order powerhouse, a God Rank in the upper world. But compared to the Child of Destruction, who’s a Ninth Order, I am nothing. We can only swallow our pride and follow this terrifying order.”

”So we are just going along with his demand?” the oldest man said with a deeply worried expression.

”Do you have another plan?” the Head asked, her gaze sweeping over the four, who looked at one another and solemnly shook their heads.

”Ok then,” she sighed, accepting their collective helplessness. “Send out the word: the Succession Competition begins in two weeks. I just hope that in this desperate competition, we will finally see a king strong enough to defend our human race.” The group nodded, their expressions etched with solemn dread.

[Three Days Later. Biden Town – Sunny’s Newly Bought Mansion.]

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Three quiet, respectful knocks sounded on the master bedroom door. After a few seconds, Josephine opened the door slightly, dressed comfortably in her pajamas and a loose robe, a picture of domestic relaxation.

”Brite? What happened?” she asked, mildly confused.

”Madam, Young Master Qin and his sister are downstairs. They want to see both you and Sir Alex,” Brite reported, her face showing a hint of concern at the unexpected visit.

Josephine blinked, a little surprised by the early morning urgency, but nodded calmly. “Thank you, Brite. We’ll be down in two minutes.”

Brite nodded, turned, and walked away, while Josephine closed the door, already turning to Sunny.

____

[Downstairs – Main Sitting Room.]

”Two minutes,” Brite announced to Qin Li and Qin Wei, then discreetly walked toward the kitchen.

”This is really strange… The timing is all wrong,” Qin Li muttered nervously to his sister.

”What is wrong?”

The two turned instantly to the stairs, seeing Sunny descending alone, already dressed in simple, authoritative attire.

”Sir Alex… There is big news!” Qin Li burst out, his professional facade cracking under the pressure. Sunny sat down on the couch, across from the two siblings, his demeanor relaxed.

”News? What news?” Sunny asked, feigning confusion while his mind was already calculating possible threats.

”Well… my sister will be best to answer,” Qin Li deferred, giving Qin Wei the lead. She nodded and began, her voice grave:

”We received news from our father that the Succession Competition’s time has been drastically changed. It will start in two weeks, not the scheduled month.” Her words struck Sunny, who instantly connected the news to the System’s recent quest.

”Really?” he asked, trying to mask the hint of excitement that slipped into his tone. ‘Two weeks? Perfect. I can’t waste six months.’

”You seem happy,” Qin Wei observed, her eyebrow raised, trying to gauge his reaction to the political turmoil.

’Of course I am happy! The faster I partake in this competition, the faster I’ll gain the political influence and power boost I need to break through to more stages. But…’ He looked up at the two siblings, his frown deepening.

“Why the sudden change in schedule? That level of authority usually comes from the Royal Family itself, right?”

”Because someone called the Child of Destruction gave the order,” Qin Li answered, his voice dropping to a resentful whisper.

”Child of Destruction? That doesn’t sound like a good person,” Sunny noted.

”Of course not! That ten-year-old kid is a Ninth Order powerhouse! And the worst part is, he will be partaking in this competition, even though everyone knows he’s Ninth Order,” Qin Li said, his hand gesturing in frustrated rage.

”He claims he will reduce his strength, but even with that, he will fight at the level of a Sixth Order. The strongest official competitor is also a Sixth Order. This sudden change and participation will make the contest incredibly difficult and deadly for everyone weaker,” Qin Wei explained, emphasizing the danger.

”Where did this Child of Destruction come from? Is he human?” Sunny asked, sensing the imminent threat.

”No. He is a Demon,” Qin Wei answered, her eyes narrowing. “And he is the son of Lilith, the Great Mother of the Dark Domain in the Supreme World.”

”…..?!”

Sunny froze solid, the name acting like a spiritual anchor in his mind.

’She knows I am here, but my System must be blocking her ability to locate the mark. She sent her son, a Ninth Order threat, to flush me out.’ Sunny’s mind raced.

‘Should I partake in this competition now? No matter how I look at it, this “Child of Destruction” is clearly after me. But if I don’t go, I waste the opportunity. I have to go, but I must minimize the direct confrontation, but how?’
