Chapter 313: The War of Wealth
[Auction House – Grand Hall.]
Everyone in the hall turned to Qin Wei in surprise. But before her bid could even be fully processed, Xin Jo’s voice, cool and challenging, cut through the air.
”Twenty-five million.”
Michael, the Heir of the Blade family, exploded with frustration. “Hey?! Can’t you two just give this to me?! I promise, I won’t bid for anything you set your eyes on for the rest of the day!” he pleaded, staring at the two Fourth Order women seated ahead of him.
Xin Jo looked over her shoulder at him, a condescending smirk on her face. “And why would I do that, Michael? Letting you have the sword is indirectly strengthening an opponent of the Xin family. Besides, even though I’m not skilled with swords, this Demon Blade will serve perfectly as a magnificent house decoration.”
”You?!” Michael was stunned by her ruthless dismissal.
”Fifty Million,” Qin Wei said, her tone utterly detached from the personal squabble. She was bidding purely to force up the price and assess her rivals’ depths.
”Good… Very good!” Michael roared, his face flushed with rage and pride. He yelled: “One hundred million!”
”….?!!”
The hall erupted in shocked murmurs. The price had gone from a massive weapon value to a blatant display of inherited wealth. Even the two calculating women were momentarily stunned.
”Hahaha, try and beat that!” Michael shouted, his forced smile triumphant.
”TSK… Using your family money, and you’re bragging here,” Xin Jo scoffed, rolling her eyes, and stepped down.
”Does he even have so much money in his personal accounts?” Qin Li asked Sunny with a frown.
”Maybe she’s right, he’s using his family’s credit to bid,” Elara chimed in.
”Well,” Qin Li argued, looking at the sword. “That blade is impressive. If he gets it, his family won’t mind the money spent, given its God-Rank quality.”
”Ok, let’s see the true extent of the Blade family’s liquidity,” Sunny said, bored with the low-stakes display. He raised his hand casually.
”One Billion.”
”….?!!”
His entire table was stunned. Even Josephine turned to him in surprise, her eyebrow arched.
”Sir. Sir Alex, isn’t that… throwing money away?” Qin Li stammered in shock.
”You again!” Michael snapped, shaking with fury, staring at the casual newcomer.
”Ten billion! Let’s see if you can beat that!!” Michael screamed, desperately pouring everything into the bid.
’This is my highest credit limit! Anything above this and my father will literally kill me for this foolishness,’ Michael thought, his teeth grinding.
”Wow! Young Master Michael,” Sunny said with a genuine, amused smirk, recognizing the desperation. “I thought you were going to bid higher. One Hundred Billion!!!”
PIFF!
Xin Jo spat out the wine she was sipping in pure shock, her head snapping toward Sunny, eyes wide. The entire hall was frozen, the magnitude of the number rendering them speechless.
”Um… Love, what do you need that sword for?” Josephine whispered, entirely lost, yet maintaining her composure.
”I don’t know,” Sunny replied with an easy shrug. “It’s just shiny. Maybe I can give it to Elara; she needs a symbol of her new position.” He turned his head to Elara.
”Me?” Elara was utterly speechless, the concept of a 100 Billion gold coin gift crushing her mind.
John, the host, frantically scanned the hall and finally fixed his gaze on Michael. “Sir Michael?”
Michael clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white, then slowly, rigidly sat back down, defeated by the sheer absurdity of the bid.
”Ok… Sold to Sir Alex!” John yelled, his voice shaking with adrenaline. The attendant slowly opened the glass case, extracted the glowing Demon Blade, and walked toward Sunny.
”It belongs to her,” Sunny said, gesturing toward Elara.
After that bid, everyone made a mental note: if Sunny bid for anything, they would back down immediately to avoid personal and financial embarrassment. But to their collective shock and confusion, Sunny remained completely silent after the second purchase. He simply watched item after item sell.
Finally, the last item arrived.
”Ok everyone!!” John said, rubbing his hands together with nervous excitement. He gestured to the attendant walking toward them with a beautifully decorated tray. Above the tray, beneath a single layer of red velvet, was an object unlike the others: a single piece of sky-blue key, with its head, carved into the precise shape of a sun.
”This here is known as the Soul Key!” John announced, his voice vibrating with importance. “This is the only key that can unlock the doors to the Soul Secret Realm—a realm said to be filled only with high-tier, God-Rank equipment.” He smiled, adding a crucial detail:
”We also discovered something about its nature: the moment the Secret Realm is due to appear, the Key will glow intensely, leading the holder directly to the entry point, granting a crucial first-mover advantage.”
”This is a massive advantage,” Michael muttered, leaning forward, his rage momentarily forgotten. “The Secret Realm is filled with God-Rank equipment, but the Boss is a formidable Sixth Order powerhouse.”
”True,” Xin Jo agreed, her eyes gleaming with renewed focus. “The Boss there is a Sixth Order powerhouse—too powerful for us alone. But the God-Rank equipment scattered around the place will be worth it. I don’t have to kill the Boss; I just need the loot.”
”I should get it,” Qin Wei whispered to herself, making a final decision.
”Nine Hundred Trillion!” Sunny declared, his voice cutting through the focused silence. He smiled, the number so absurdly high it instantly froze the entire room.
”Nine… Nine hundred trillion?” John stammered, his body swaying. In his entire career, he had never heard such an amount bid for anything. A single key, for a realm with a Sixth Order Boss, was suddenly valued higher than the annual income of most major clans.
Qin Li was speechless, his jaw slack. Elara and Precious were horrified, staring at their Boss in disbelief, while Josephine simply shook her head lightly, slightly amused.
”You simply cut everyone off,” Josephine whispered, leaning close. “No one will dare bid higher than that, regardless of their family’s total wealth.”
”That is the plan,” Sunny whispered back, confirming the completion of his first quest.
”Impossible! There is no way you’re that wealthy!” Michael suddenly yelled, his fury returning, still burning over the loss of his sword. “We don’t even know your family!”
”Oh? You think I don’t have the money?” Sunny asked, turning to face him, his eyes daring the confrontation.
”Yes! Are you saying you’re more wealthy than the Royal Family itself?!” Michael challenged, desperate to regain face.
”If I am, what will you do?” Sunny challenged back.
”If you are…” Michael hesitated, then pulled out a finely crafted, runic dagger—a God-Rank weapon itself.
“I will give you this God-Rank Dagger as a formal apology.” He then pointed to the Demon Blade held by Elara. “But if you can’t pay that money, you will give me that sword.”
Sunny’s smirk widened. “Deal.”
