Chapter 337: Travelling to World Tree[1]
Darian’s eyes gleamed with calculation as he considered the expanded possibilities that six orc grandmasters provided.

“With their support, we can pursue multiple objectives simultaneously rather than being forced to choose between competing priorities. The light elves will spread their forces thin trying to defend everything, while we concentrate overwhelming power at critical points.”

“Your strategic vision continues to guide us toward victory, Your Majesty,” the grandmaster said with genuine respect rather than simple flattery.

“Ensure the orcs are provided with appropriate accommodations and refreshments,” Darian ordered. “Nothing ostentatious, but basic shop keeper items that demonstrates we honor our agreements. Show them the respect that warriors of their rank deserve.”

Darian didn’t mind spending six loaves of bread from the mysterious shopkeeper to help build this relationship before the fight began. Once they eliminated the light elves, the shopkeeper’s items would be theirs to keep.

“Of course, Your Majesty. I will personally oversee the arrangements.”

As the grandmaster departed to implement his orders, Darian remained seated on his obsidian throne, his mind working through contingencies and opportunities.

The light elf queen thought she was playing a sophisticated game of influence and resources. She had no idea that Darian had already moved beyond such civilized constraints into the realm of overwhelming force. The mysterious shopkeeper’s auction would proceed, but the outcome had already been determined through preparation and alliances that his enemies hadn’t anticipated.

A dark chuckle escaped his lips as he contemplated Seraphina’s inevitable shock when she discovered just how thoroughly she had been outmaneuvered.

..

Noah and Lola had successfully left the main gray area where his shop was situated between both kingdoms, slipping past the extensive surveillance networks that both elven factions maintained around his establishment.

The careful coordination required to avoid detection from multiple high-level observers had tested even Lola’s newly enhanced capabilities.

A relieved smile formed on Noah’s face as they finally cleared the dangerous zone. Lola had managed to maintain her stealth technique for the entire escape, keeping both of them hidden from the numerous archmages positioned throughout the surrounding territory.

They were now approximately a mile away from where either kingdom could maintain reliable surveillance on their movements.

“We made it out of their peripheral senses in time,” Lola muttered, her voice showing the strain of sustained magical effort. “My stealth skill couldn’t hold on for much longer. Hiding from so many archmages simultaneously is incredibly difficult, even at my current strength. The concentration required to mask two people’s presence while moving through their observation zones pushed me close to my limits.”

Her body slowly started becoming fully visible again as the advanced concealment technique finally faded, the hidden distortion that had surrounded them both dissipating like morning mist. The magical drain from maintaining such sophisticated illusion work for an extended period was evident in her slightly labored breathing.

“That was impressive work,” Noah said with genuine admiration, reaching into his storage ring. “Your control over the stealth magic was flawless. They couldn’t detect any fluctuations in the concealment even when we passed within a hundred meters of that archmage patrol.”

He retrieved a bottle of iced tea from his inventory and offered it to Lola. “Here, this should help you recover your mana reserves faster. We still have a long journey ahead of us to reach the World Tree’s coordinates. It’s not an enormous distance, but it’s not particularly close either.”

Lola accepted the bottle gratefully and drank deeply, the premium beverage’s restorative properties immediately beginning to replenish her depleted magical energy. The relief was visible in her expression as the fatigue started lifting.

“Thank you. This helps alot,” she said after finishing half the bottle. “The World Tree’s location is approximately fifteen miles from here according to the coordinates Adrian provided. The terrain becomes increasingly difficult as we approach the sacred site, with natural barriers and powerful beasts that will slow our progress.”

Noah consulted the information Adrian had given them, studying the rough map that showed the general area where the massive tree supposedly stood. “Do you know anything about what kind of defenses or guardians we might encounter?”

“Very little concrete information exists about the World Tree’s protections,” Lola admitted. “Most of what circulates are legends and secondhand words from explorers who claimed to have gotten close before being driven away. The consistent elements in those stories mention the dangers, environmental hazards that manifest spontaneously, and a general sense of hostile awareness from the forest itself.”

They began walking toward their destination, maintaining a steady pace that balanced speed with caution. The landscape gradually shifted from the relatively civilized areas near Esta’s capital toward more wild and untamed wilderness. Tree grew larger and more robust, their branches creating canopies so thick that sunlight barely penetrated to the forest floor.

Neither Noah nor Lola had any awareness of the dramatic events unfolding simultaneously in both elven kingdoms. They didn’t know that Adrian Silveroak had been successfully captured by Queen Seraphina’s forces, his betrayal exposed and his attempt to escape thwarted by loyal royal guards. The information he possessed about their destination and the shopkeeper’s goal represented a ticking time bomb that could explode into immediate crisis.

They also remained ignorant of Lord Regent Darian’s successful alliance with the orc grandmasters, the six powerful warriors who had arrived to tip the military balance decisively in the dark elves’ favor. The strategic situation had shifted dramatically while they were focused on their own preparations.

The World Tree’s location, which both Noah and Lola believed was a closely guarded secret known only to Adrian and his close group, might already be compromised through Adrian’s interrogation. What should have been a relatively private expedition could potentially transform into a convergence point for hostile forces from multiple factions.

But for now, they walked in peaceful ignorance of these complications, focused entirely on navigating the increasingly dangerous wilderness between them and their destination. The forest around them grew more dangerous with each mile, pure mana saturating the very air they breathed.
