Chapter 538: Dragon’s Den?
Making their way down from the floating island, they walked along the pavement of the town-like market below until they reached their destination.
Lillian found the area around them to be nearly deserted; some stores even closed early for the day. And she definitely knew why.
The underground auction, otherwise known more famously as the academy’s luxurious Dragon’s Den, only opens once every 5 months.
As a way to fund some of their projects or maintenance, the academy accepted services related to auctioning and selling prized items of worth. And the reputation of the Dragon’s Den wasn’t small either.
The Dragon’s Den was also equipped with an underground market, allowing small and licensed vendors to set up shop; the cost of setting up shop was that they only needed to pay a small percentage of what they earned.
‘If I remember correctly, even after being allowed into the Dragon’s Den, it would only be 30 minutes after we get in that the auction would begin.’
Amidst her pondering, she soon snapped out of her thoughts the moment she heard her name.
“Will you be joining us on this occasion, Lillian?” Kuro asked, curious whether Lillian had actually bought a ticket for it.
Lillian smiled wryly. Since she had planned to enter the Dragon’s Den originally, she had already paid for the ticket days prior.
Unfortunately…
“The tickets for the seats sold out extremely fast, so I might need to stand at the back…”
She had known they sold fast, but she truly underestimated the rate at which event tickets sold out.
Kuro hummed indifferently, “That’s rather unfortunate.”
Lillian’s face twitched at his indifference. Her attention was then drawn to Mizuki, who spoke up:
“How about you join our private box?” The Scion of the Kirisaya family suggested, flaunting his wealth.
The Rabbit nodded gratefully, thanking the man, while ignoring the Blood Mage, who walked alongside them—clicking his tongue.
Upon arriving at the entrance of a rather large building, they were met with the sight of a humongous crowd, parked vehicles to the side, and staff who went in and out of the building.
From students, business owners, and tycoon owners, to more prominent figures, it seemed like this Dragon’s Den was going to be far more eventful.
And Lillian was sure of it.
If she remembered correctly, the bodies of either the Twin-headed Seawater Leviathan or the massive bird Millis faced, and hopefully defeated, would appear.
Since Lillian was now a part of a VIP group, their group was able to skip the large queue that had built up in front of the entrance that led underground.
However, the moment she reached the entrance, she felt a gaze land on her; not one of malice or any kind of hostility, but of interest.
Immediately turning back, Lillian looked around, trying to discover where the gaze was coming from, but ultimately failed.
Could she have imagined it?
With not much time to linger or ponder about it, Lillian followed after her group and travelled several dozen metres underground by glass elevator.
Lillian leaned against the metal railings inside the glass elevator she was in and gazed beyond the glass walls, taking in the sight of a glamorous world beneath the surface.
Organised stalls, bright lights, expensive and gold decor—mainly of eastern dragons—even the pavements had some level of detail to them!
Lillian leaned her forehead against the glass walls, taking in the jaw-opening sight before—
THUMP!
“O-ow…”
—Hitting her head against the glass.
The elevator ride was now over.
While rubbing her forehead, she and everyone stepped out of the elevator; the first thing they did was explore the Dragon’s Den market.
Compared to a rugged place like the Black Market in the Underworld, this place was far better.
Mizuki discovered Lillian’s child-like awe of the place and couldn’t help but tease her about it, “First time here?”
“Y-yeah…”
“I could tell! You have the same reaction as Kuro did when he was a kid, and might I say, his face was priceless to say the least. It’s one of the few faces I can remember vividly!”
The pony-tailed man laughed, drawing the attention of the Sword Genius, who rolled his eyes. “Back then, apart from your home, I’ve never been in a place as large and lavish as this.”
With time to spare, they continued to walk around, looking over the sorts of things that might seem worth buying.
In the end, they didn’t find anything of value.
‘What’s with this feeling…?’ Lillian asked herself.
The entire time she was wandering around the market, she felt a constant scrutinising gaze on her. It was an eerie feeling, as if she were being targeted by some kind of spy or ninja.
Shaking her head of the feeling, Lillian and her group moved towards the auction theatre, which—by the time they arrived—was already open.
Standing in line to enter the theatre, Lillian took a look at the very front of the queue, finding it to be surrounded and filled with staff and security guards.
One by one, she watched as people showed some form of evidence that they had a ticket to a staff member before entering.
Pulling out her phone, which was still wrapped in a white bunny-themed phone case, she pulled up the email of her ticket receipt.
When she and her group finally got to the front and showed their ticket, they made their way in.
“I swear there’s even more people than last time…” Ketsu, the blood mage, mumbled—relieved to have gotten into the theatre finally.
Kuro nodded, “You’re right… I believe I heard a rumour that this auction might have some more rare items compared to the last, but rumours are rumours.”
“Ooo! I think I remembered hearing about a rumour about some corpses of Prime Husks in this one! Those are definitely some high-valued things to get.” Mizuki exclaimed.
“Seriously? How many?” Kuro inquired.
“Two, I believe. One is of what may have been a two-headed leviathan, while the other was some sort of large avian.” Mizuki answered.
Lillian, eavesdropping on their conversation, paused.
Two-headed leviathan? Wasn’t that the Twin-headed Seawater Leviathan? And large avian… That should be the monster Millis should’ve faced while on that blimp!
‘I really should give her a call…’ Lillian internally muttered before deciding to do that after this entire event.
After going up a flight of stairs, they stopped before the entrance of their group’s designated private box.
Watching as the entire group entered, Lillian took a step forward to follow. But the moment she did, the mysterious gaze returned.
However, that wasn’t all.
Thump…
As the gaze also came with a black gloved hand that fell upon her left shoulder from behind.
