Chapter 532: Ensho Kurogane?
In 1948, the time of the Second Great War, it was said that each Cardinal nation had powerhouses, besides their Saints, that were capable of levelling an entire mountain on their own.

Ensho Kurogane, otherwise infamously known as the Rising Smoke of the East or the Lord of Ash, was one of the East’s powerhouses.

Not only was he a mage of the Master Rank (Tier 4), but his skills in combat and affinity weren’t lacking in the slightest. He had reached the realm of Martial King and the realm of Mana Emperor.

His most notable feat was during an attack on the Kazehime district from the North, which comprised roughly 50 stealth airships.

Ensho Kurogane, who was the sole powerhouse designated in that district at the time, was able to fend off the entire attack.

Battling against over one hundred 1st Tier mages, several dozen 2nd Tier mages, and a handful of 3rd Tier mages as a Tier 4 mage, the Rising Smoke of the East was able to lessen the number of casualties of a city comprised of millions of unevacuated civilians down to only a couple hundreds.

If it wasn’t for the fact that the Rising Smoke of the East didn’t have abilities that specialised in dealing with masses, the damage done would’ve been astronomical.

Walking down a well-maintained stone path, Lillian stared at the back of the Rising Smoke.

‘If I remember correctly… He’s around 90 years old, isn’t he? Age really isn’t a problem if you’re a high-tiered mage…’

“W-wait, so you’re the new Headmaster…?”

Lillian, who was splitting her attention to admire the scenery around her, glanced at Viesta, who had decided to ask about the Rising Smoke’s position as Headmaster.

Ensho took another puff from his cigar and nodded.

“The position of Headmaster, if left empty, would give our Academy bad publicity. So… Huuu…” Ensho breathed out another cloud of smoke. “I took it upon myself to sit in the chair and play the role of Acting Headmaster until he comes back. It was the only logical option, since I was his advisor.”

“Until… He comes back?” Viesta asked, clearly confused.

While it wasn’t public knowledge why Luton’s School of Prestigious Magic had no one in the position of Headmaster, it was more or less obvious what happened to the last one for those who were present during the invasion.

Ensho glanced back at Viesta’s confused expression and nodded, “Donatello, or I suppose, Starbringer, is not someone weak enough to be done in by that rag-tag group of cultists. A mage of the 5th Tier isn’t so fragile; thus, he is still alive. But that’s just my hypothesis.”

Walking a bit longer, they soon made their way into the street of the bustling market that was situated right below the floating island.

Gazes were drawn, whispers were made, and stars appeared in their eyes as the Rising Smoke of the East walked among them.

While some gazes did shift over to Lillian and Viesta, it was mainly out of curiosity and how eye-catching their beauty was, mainly Viesta, since Lillian was wearing her mask.

The further they went into the market, the more common individuals with a white and azure blue academy uniform became.

The students lingered around and partook in activities in between lessons: checking out Items that were on sale, getting food and drinks, grouping together to discuss… Some even clung onto each other romantically, making it clear they were a couple.

Passing by them, Lillian watched as the students greeted formally and bowed respectfully towards the Rising Smoke, who merely gave back a casual wave and nod.

Lillian glanced at the couples she walked by and couldn’t help but feel a bit impatient and even a bit… Envious?

Upon further walking, they soon arrived at a teleportation field that, with proper identification and permission, allowed them to be teleported into the floating island above.

Within an instant, they appeared inside a courtyard, where the ground beneath them was covered in runic markings and talismans.

Stepping over them, they soon made their way out of the courtyard and into a highly advanced facility that was constantly patrolled by personnel dressed in white lab coats.

They walked up to a door locked behind an ID scanner.

Ensho, having thrown away his cigar for the sake of safety, flashed his hand out and summoned his ID.

Swiping it against the scanner, he gestured for the two ladies behind him to follow him inside.

And upon doing so, they were led into a control room made for what seemed to be a machine similar in design to Louis Mana Academy’s spatial machine.

“These will be the people who would help with connecting your spatial machine to ours.” Ensho pointed towards the head technician.

Lillian watched as Viesta pulled something out of her spatial ring, which seemed to be another spatial ring, likely containing what was needed to form a connection between spatial machines.

The head technician looked inside the ring and nodded in satisfaction, “Everything looks to be in order… May I ask what happened to your spatial machine that it needed to reconnect with ours?”

Viesta scratched the back of her head with a wry smile, “The invasion left our spatial machine… Rather damaged. So, all connections we had with other academies were left unstable.”

“Ah, I see. I suppose it’s better to do another reconnection rather than relying on an unstable space channel.”

While the head technician went off to proceed with the reconnection, Viesta, who was watching them do it, found Lillian sneaking out of the room in the corner of her eye.

Having snuck out of the room, Lillian pulled out her phone.

Ring…! Ring…!

[Unfortunately, the person you are calling cannot pick up the phone. Leave a voicemail after the be—]

Click.

Hanging up and deciding not to leave a voicemail, Lillian sighed in disappointment as she leaned her back against the wall.

“Haaa…”

Just now, she had tried to call Marionette, but it seemed like she was a bit busy at the moment.

‘I guess that’s why she hung up so early…’ Lillian, piecing it together, felt a bit guilty. Could it be that Marionette was in the middle of a mission during their call? She didn’t mess up anything, did she?

Giving another exasperated sigh, Lillian placed a hand over her chest.

Ever since she got out of her Trial yesterday, she couldn’t stop this feeling of impatience inside her heart from throbbing against her chest.

She…

She wanted to see Marionette…

After half an hour had passed, Ensho and Viesta exited the room.

“Alright! All done. The mission is finally complete, Lillian” Viesta declared with a grin, causing Lillian to perk up and smile as well before noticing someone come up from behind Viesta.

Viesta smirked and stepped to the side, gesturing to the person behind her, “And check out who decided to come visit us.”

A woman with long flowing blonde hair, blue eyes with a scar over one of them, and standing at a height of about 5ft11, taller than Viesta. And they were dressed… In the uniform that could only belong to Louis Mana Academy.

“I see that you’re well, Lillian? You know.”

It was Beatrice.
