Chapter 531: Arrival to the Eastern Academy?
Sitting on a metal seat inside the train station, Viesta was reading the news on her phone, specifically the ones that happened during her time inside the Trial.
She smirked at a piece of recent news before glancing at someone who had taken a seat beside her.
It was Lillian. However, something was different about her… She was dressed in another outfit.
Jean pants and a plain white t-shirt neatly tucked in. As well as a black mask?
“Ah, ya finally got here with 30 minutes to spare. Did ya finish your call with your girlfriend?”
Resting her back against the backrest of her seat, Lillian nodded, smiling broadly behind her mask.
“Mhm! Although it lasted a lot shorter than I would’ve hoped, it’s fine.”
“I see, I see! So. What’s with the new outfit?” Viesta curiously raised an eyebrow, “Went out to do some shopping?”
Lillian smiled wryly, scratching the side of her cheek.
“You were checking out the news earlier, right…?”
“Heh, how’d you know? And good work with dealing with that outbreak! I think they were categorising this one as a C-rank.”
“Hahaha, thanks! As for my clothes… It got a bit dirty…”
While thanking the Cowgirl, Lillian couldn’t help but shiver at the number of reporters at the scene. They held her up for so long…
If it wasn’t for the fact that a person needed a license to utilise their abilities in public, outside of dealing with self-defence, she would’ve disappeared from there.
‘Wait, hold on. Doesn’t my student license count as a license for this?’
Since Louis Mana Academy was a prestigious institution, they were able to grant their students the right to use their abilities, as long as it was for a good reason, of course.
‘I could’ve left after all!’ Lillian screamed in her mind before pausing, ‘Or not… It’s not like it’ll do much harm anyway…’
Now that Lillian thought about it, as long as she was given enough publicity, wouldn’t that draw the attention of a certain Assassin household?
The Roselle Family.
Her dealing with the outbreak could certainly count as an achievement!
As long as she accumulated enough achievements or managed to get enough approval from each main member of the family to where it would overwhelm the opposing votes, then that would mean her relationship would be accepted!
Pat. Pat.
“Hm?”
Woken up from her daze, Lillian found herself sitting inside a train, more specifically, inside a roomette.
Viesta, who was sitting across from her, smirked while holding a rolled-up magazine, which she used to break Lillian out of her daze.
“Finally awake?” Viesta chuckled, unrolling the magazine before passing over something to her, “What do you want to eat? It’s been a while since I last ate, besides those dangos, and I take it that you haven’t eaten either. They have quite the menu on this train.”
Taking the black-leather cover menu from Viesta’s hand, Lillian scoured through the selection. She’s right, she hadn’t eaten anything in the past couple of hours.
After ordering, Lillian fell back into her deep thoughts, which soon led her to worry about a certain Heroine she hadn’t seen in a while.
Where was Millis? She hadn’t seen her once in the Kirisaya District…
Lillian checked the recent news.
The airship that Millis was on had already been retrieved along with its surviving passengers, as well as a horrifically large winged creature that was a mix between a hawk and a vulture with horns.
She wondered if Millis was still in her Trial or was one of those surviving rescued passengers…
Lillian scratched her head, visibly distressed over the current situation of her best friend.
‘She’s fine, right? Surely…’
Deciding that it wouldn’t do her good to worry any more, Lillian began to dig into the newly arrived meal she had ordered.
After roughly an hour of riding on the train, Lillian and Viesta soon arrived at their destination.
Luton School of Prestigious Magic.
And to say that she was in awe of the place would be an understatement.
Walking out of the train station, Lillian was met with a humongous stone gate that was surrounded and patrolled by soldiers armed with oriental gear.
Lillian sensed the aura of Tier 2s on each individual soldier; some even reaching the 3rd Tier.
Walking up to the gate, the two of them were stopped by a guard wielding a long polearm.
Since Lillian didn’t speak Ancient Keri, it was only natural that she let Viesta do all the talking.
“Halt. What business do you have here? I don’t seem to recognise the two of you even a bit.”
“We’re from Louis Mana Academy, tasked with delivering the spatial code of our machine.”
“Oh?” The guard rubbed his chin before calling to his colleague, who walked out from a corner, most likely out of a room inside the wall. “Were we told anything about a delivery?”
“A delivery?” Guard #2 asked before narrowing his eyes on Lillian and Viesta. He then widened his eyes, recognising Viesta, “Oh! I know you! I remember you came here about a few months ago.”
After a bit of talking, the two of them were eventually allowed in.
C-creak!
Watching as the metal gate was raised, Lillian strolled in and gaped at what she saw.
A beautiful, lush valley of vibrant greenery, perfectly maintained stone roads, and masterfully made buildings similar to ancient Japan’s architecture, with the main colour schemes being a mix between azure, black, and white. As well as a large sculpture of an azure Chinese dragon that encircled the entire valley, it was even a part of the humongous wall!
But that wasn’t all.
For at the very centre of the valley was a humongous floating island, which was tied down to the valley with gigantic chains. What resided on top of it was a grand structure that could only be where the actual Academy building was.
And beneath this floating island was a large bustling market that was connected to the exit of the valley.
Lillian gulped.
She had seen this sight plenty of times and was even prepared to see it with her own eyes, and yet, she was still taken off guard by how grand and beautiful the entire academy was.
She swore, if it wasn’t for the fact that her academy’s actual Headmaster wasn’t currently trapped inside a Trial, theirs would’ve looked just as good!
… Maybe.
“Impressive, isn’t it?” Viesta bumped her shoulder against Lillian’s, “My jaw dropped the first time I came here. And my jaw is still dropping to this day every time I see it. These guys take aesthetics rather seriously~…”
Lillian nodded blankly, wholeheartedly agreeing with her before flinching as someone’s voice appeared behind her; they spoke in Great Melvin.
“That’s what over a century of foundations and funds gets you…”
Both Viesta and Lillian backed away, turning around as they found an imposing man of tall stature standing behind where they previously were; his height seemingly surpassing two metres.
He had short, messy, black hair and wore a black asian conical straw hat that casted a shadow over his handsome face, which had a bit of stubble.
His attire consisted of a white and azure hanfu, dark blue ornaments as trim, and a black and azure coat that was worn over his shoulders; on the back of the coat was an intricate illustration of rising smoke.
“Huu…”
A cigar.
With all of these together, he made for an extremely good-looking man who would undoubtedly capture the attention of many.
However, that wasn’t all that was notable about this mysterious man, for Lillian sensed the aura of a Tier 4 on him.
The straw-hat-wearing man breathed in the cigar again and blew out a cloud of smoke, gazing upon the entirety of the valley of the Academy.
“… Huu… This is one of the best spots in the valley, and the easiest to find.”
Turning his gaze away from the valley, he glanced between Viesta and Lillian, who seemed to have calmed down at the sight of him.
“I take it you two are the errand girls from Louis Mana Academy?” He asked, already knowing the answer.
The two nodded briefly.
Lillian obviously knew who he was, and so did Viesta.
Viesta smiled and greeted the man:
“Yes, we are! Sorry about the wait, sir. We encountered some… Unforeseen troubles along the way.” Viesta explained, holding back information about the Trial.
“I didn’t think the Rising Smoke of the East would be greeting us…” She muttered, holding a large amount of respect for the man.
The man, identified as the Rising Smoke of the East, nodded casually.
Breathing in and blowing out another cloud of smoke, he sighed, “No worries, you managed to get here, safe and sound, and that’s all that matters. As for me, greeting you… It’s only right for the Headmaster to escort you, especially with what you are carrying.”
“H-headmaster?” Viesta asked in stupor.
The man walked past Viesta and stood at the edge, blowing out another cloud of smoke as he looked back and said:
“I, Ensho Kurogane, welcome you to our academy…”
