Chapter 529: Outbreak? [1]
[WARNING! WARNING!]

[THE PRESENCE OF AN OUTBREAK LOCATED IN THE STEEL GARDEN OF KIRISAYA HAS BEEN DETECTED! ALL NEARBY CIVILIANS PLEASE EVACUATE!]

Sensing faint but noticeable tremors in the ground, Lillian tucked her hands into her pockets after putting back on her mask.

She listened to the warning sirens that alternated between the languages: Ancient Keri and Great Melvin.

Looking around, she watched as a few people who were lingering inside the Steel Garden of Kirisaya scrambled for the exit.

Considering that this was a tourist spot, it was safe to say that there were definitely more than a few.

Turning towards the old man, Takuro, Lillian found him rooted firmly to the ground—visibly frightened as he reached for the steel sword strapped to his waist.

Lillian smiled behind her mask.

Takuro Takahashi, an NPC that the player would have to defend for a reward that would assist them, most likely in the future.

But that wasn’t all.

‘I’ll also have to limit the amount of destruction made to the statues around me and also save people…’

The more people she saved, the better.

Placing a hand on his shoulder, Lillian muttered according to the game’s dialogue:

“A plain sword won’t be enough to defend yourself.” Lillian turned around and knelt down, showing her back to him, “How about you get on my back? I can protect you a lot easier like that.”

Takuro, hearing Lillian’s offer of protection, made some sort of expression before patting her back to get a feel for where she was.

With a smile, he hopped onto her back and clung to her firmly like a koala.

“You have my gratitude, young lady… But please do leave me behind in exchange for your safety.”

Lillian smirked, “I’m strong enough to ensure both of our safety, I can promise that.”

Standing back up, Lillian immediately broke into a sprint.

The moment that Takuro got onto her back, the outbreak must’ve already begun.

“AHHH!”

Hearing a cry off in the nearby distance, the elder on her back tapped her shoulder.

“A cry for help! Me must save them!”

Lillian nodded.

Running around a corner, Lillian was met with the sight of a frightened woman on the ground and a man who stood between her and a hulking bipedal monster.

It had a barrel-shaped chest with gills on its side and stood at a height of 1.9 metres. Its long, muscular arms ended with uneven bone claws, and wet, dark blue skin that secreted a toxic mucus.

The monster even had a head similar to that of a blob fish with a gaping maw of sharp teeth that was left lazily open.

The monster’s body leaned side to side as it walked in an unnatural manner; its webbed feet made uncomfortably wet slapping sounds.

With the sword that was strapped to his waist, the man pointed it towards the monster, visibly afraid to confront the horrid amphibian.

The amphibian, detecting another creature behind the two it was walking towards, stopped in place as it rolled its bulging black eyes. Then, it unnaturally leaned back; its chest expanding and its neck bulging outwards like a frog as something seemed to wriggle underneath its skin.

It bent forward and regurgitated what seemed to be a high-pressure jet of water from its mouth.

Right before the couple were to be met with a deadly faceful of water, Lillian dashed past them, raising her mana-coated hand and seizing control over the beam of water.

Then, with a conscious mind, she negated all the momentum and force it had built up before chucking it to the side.

Splash.

The moment the water met the ground, Lillian had already summoned her shortsword and made her move. However, the monster didn’t intend to stay idle.

Discovering its attack was ineffective, it raised its hulking arms and bone claws in defence, but then it felt a heavy and invisible force fall down on its body.

It stumbled forward, visibly surprised. Although the weight on its body had increased, it wasn’t enough to completely restrict its movements. However, by the time it balanced itself, Lillian had already carved it into pieces.

[You have slain a Dire Wretch, Gloomgill]

Without even waiting to check to see if the couple had any injuries or not, Lillian immediately sped off—using her memory and the sounds of cries as her navigator.

[You have slain a Dire Wretch, Gloomgill]

[You have slain a Dire Wretch, Gloomgill]

[You have slain a…]

Upon entering the 3rd Tier, her physical prowess had increased drastically. She was possibly 1.5 times faster compared to before.

And the strength behind her attacks held much more weight; she barely felt much resistance when it came to slicing through the Gloomgills’ flesh.

SWISH.

[You have slain a Dire Wretch, Gloomgill]

Cutting down Gloomgill, Lillian’s face twitched and wrinkled as a burning pain was inflicted on her hand. Just earlier, she had accidentally made contact with the toxic mucus of one of them, a biological chemical that activates when it makes contact with other biological matter.

Something she had expected to happen sooner, since it was inevitable that it would happen eventually.

However, it wasn’t life-threatening, especially to someone of the 3rd Tier.

Washing her hands, Lillian continued her path of slaughter.

On her path, she watched as civilians utilised the swords strapped to their bodies to fend off the monsters, albeit in vain, as their swords either shattered instantly or flicked out of their hands.

Fortunately, she was swift enough to intervene before anything could happen. And if anything did occur, like grievous wounds, she obviously had a way of reversing that.

But sometimes, she was a bit too careless, as a few chips and scratches against the statues had occurred.

Luckily, that didn’t seem to visibly displeasure the old man on her back, who seemed to be having a hell of a time on her back—maybe because of the speed she was moving.

“T-thank you!”

Having healed someone, Lillian looked up and found a group of mages banding against the monsters that continued to appear out of nowhere.

Similar sights like these began to appear as more mages found each other in the mess; it was also one of the reasons why, besides her, there weren’t any casualties yet.

‘It won’t be long until the authorities gets here, just gotta hold out.’

Feeling a tap on her shoulder, Lillian looked back, finding the elder pointing towards a random direction.

Which so happens to be where the broken gate was.

“Quickly, young lady! I think I heard a cry over therethere!”

Just a second after he said this—

“HELP PLEASE! SOMEONE!”

—A cry resounded.

Immediately getting up to her feet, Lillian leapt into the air, summoning a solid platform of water beneath her feet and propelling herself further towards her objective, which was the very centre of the garden.

Gliding through the air and above the countless steel statues beneath her, Lillian eventually found herself above a large and open area decorated with beautiful steel flowers and benches.

A place of leisure after constant walking.

Looking down, Lillian locked onto a group of 4 mages and 3 civilians who were surrounded on all sides. The mages were bloodied and suffering from the effects of the toxic mucus.

Fortunately, one of the four mages seemed to be of the 2nd Tier, which was most likely the reason why they lasted so long. Although that wasn’t to say they weren’t being beaten around by the monster’s water jets.

The Tier 2 mage raised his sword, slashing with all of his might as he clashed with one of the monsters—the others doing the same, but with much greater difficulty.

They were trying to buy enough time for the 3 non-mages to escape.

Right as they were about to be hit with another barrage of water jets, they felt a sense of calmness and comfort, as though they weren’t currently in the battle for their lives.

Following that, the discovery of the monsters suddenly falling to their knees became apparent as they were skewered seconds later.

Sleek, slender, and narrow shafted harpoons made of pure water fell from the sky, demolishing the Gloomgills with ease as if they were made of thin sheets of paper.

And amidst the chaos, a woman with white hair, blue eyes, and a black mask that covered half of her face walked down a flight of translucent steps.

It was like there was a staircase beneath her feet…
