Chapter 528: Short Tale of a Liberator?
“Again… Tell me that, again, Lillian… Tell me who you belong to…”

Still seated on a park bench, Lillian’s face flashed an intense red as Marionette’s breathy voice whispered into her ear.

Gulp!

She gulped.

Lillian already felt incredibly embarrassed saying that, especially in such a public space. So, the fact that Marionette requested her to repeat it, in such a stimulating manner too, caused her cheeks to heat up rapidly.

Fanning her face and bumping her legs up and down uncontrollably, Lillian placed her phone against her reddened ear.

Then, with a slight stutter, she muttered:

“I-I belong to yo—”

Click.

“Huh?”

Hearing a click, Lillian lowered her phone from her ear and stared at the screen of her phone; Marionette had hung up on her.

Lillian stared blankly at her screen with a twitchy eye. She couldn’t believe Marionette would suddenly hang up on her like this, especially when she was about to say something so intimate!

Pressing the button to call Marionette again, she was left disappointed as her call was immediately sent to a default voicemail.

Seeing this, Lillian’s cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk.

She pouted.

“I wanted to talk with you more, Mari…”

Sighing, Lillian leaned back against the backrest of her bench.

She then swept her gaze across the park and noticed a few interested gazes landing on her.

Finding the gazes and stares belonged to random people, Lillian felt a sense of discomfort as she held a hand to her face, feeling it still hot with embarrassment.

Was her face that eye-catching? Or were they curious to know why her face had suddenly gone all red?

…

‘It could be a mix of both…’

Discovering that she might not be able to relax leisurely inside the park, Lillian left and found her way into a small convenience store.

With the help of an online translator, she was able to purchase herself a black mask that hid the lower half of her face. There was an option to purchase a cute rabbit-themed mask, but she felt like that was a bit too eye-catching.

‘The mask certaintly helped…’

Noticing the number of stares on her drastically decreased, Lillian checked the time.

[12:38]

Lillian hummed.

There was still a bit of time left.

Deciding to spend her time looking around, visiting a few stores of enchanters, smiths, and even a dress store, Lillian eventually ended up standing before a group of tall steel statues.

She was currently located in the Steel Garden of Kirisaya—a great place for tourists to visit whenever they visit the Kirisaya District of Luton.

However, her attention only landed on the statue of a tall man at the very front.

Wrapped in a long, flowing robe with a single ornate pauldron worn on his right arm, the man rested both of his hands on a sword that was stabbed into the ground.

He also wore an ornate headgear that seemed to radiate royalty.

The statue was a spectacular piece of art that was made with utmost respect.

‘Akishino Kirisaya…’

That was the name of the man.

“Akishino Kirisaya, the Waymaker of Steel…”

Lillian turned to the side, finding an elderly man—who was around half of her height and seemed to be blind—murmuring in a foreign language, which she recognised to be Ancient Keri.

Gazing up at the steel statue of Akishino Kirisaya, the elder continued:

“Akishino was said to come from a humble lineage of common swordsmiths in the city of Tenshima, having crafted his own piece at the age of 12. It was later said that he participated in defending against assassins sent from “allied” cities on the Great Night of Betrayal.

“Despite his efforts in defending fleeing citizens, the entire city of Tenshima was bombed with Gates—a tactic most commonly used back then in place of other means, but now no longer used due to their impracticality.

“After spending several years in isolation with nothing but his first crafted blade, which he named ‘Seijo no Kizu’, he later emerged, returning to his city that was now ruled over by a tyrannical lord put in place by the people who attacked his city.

“With burning ambitions, he grew his power and put together a rebellion against the tyrannical lord. Thus, gaining the title of ‘Liberator of Tenshima’ and founded the Kirisaya Dynasty.”

The elder tapped his wooden cane against the ground, silent for a moment.

“A blade is a promise. Never draw without purpose and never sheath without resolve… Those are the words he uttered when he took over as lord.”

Listening as the old man ranted about the history of the statue, Lillian smiled as she turned to the elder, who turned to her as well—despite his disability.

After a silent moment passed, Lillian smirked.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t understand Ancient Keri.”

“Oh, my! My apologies, due to your mask, I thought you were Lutonese.” The old man gave an apologetic expression before smiling, “Let me repeat what I had just said—”

Lillian shook her head, “You don’t have to do that. I assume you were talking about the past Lord Kirisaya, am I correct? I’m quite well verse in his history.”

“Magnificent, I’ll say! As you should be well-versed in history, having knowledge of the past might save you from a sticky situation one day.” The old man shook his head, “Most youngsters these days can’t be bothered to study the powerful individuals of the past. It saddens me greatly…”

Raising his hand towards Lillian, the elder introduced himself:

“Apologies for my sudden approach and need for ranting. I am Takuro Takahashi, a wanderer. May I know the young lady’s name?”

Taking off her mask, Lillian met Takuro’s hand for a handshake.

Smiling at him, Lillian introduced herself:

“Lillian Ker Arius, I’m just here to visit some places.” As she said this, Lillian couldn’t help but stare at the old man with interest.

This was the person she had been waiting for. And was also a warning for what was about to happen in—
