Chapter 474: Gratitude?
Lillian overlooked the Viesta, Emilio digesting the pills, and felt a surge of mana radiating from them. She smiled at the activity of mana in the air, akin to the static feeling of an area recently struck by lightning.

It had taken a great deal of effort from her to convince Viesta to take these pills in exchange for nothing. But fortunately, with her charismatic skills, she had managed to succeed in the task.

‘With this, their talents and rate of growth should speed up…’

She knew in the future that having strong allies would become an invaluable resource, especially those with unorthodox elements.

Lillian raised her hand and looked down at the centre of her palm, controlling her mana into her as she sighed. It was unfortunate that her body no longer grew from the consumption of Lesser Affinity Pills, but that was fine…

If she remembered correctly, the last time her affinity was measured, she had received 1323. Although she wasn’t sure what it was currently, she was sure that she still needed around 700 more Affinity to reach the next rank.

‘I really should get it measured after this Trial…’

She should also remember to tell the last bit of her deal to Emilio; it was crucial that he heard and obeyed them.

Lillian continued to watch them take down the pills she had provided, watching as their faces contorted and shifted between a variety of expressions; the most common being relaxation and also uncomfort.

This was most likely from the purifying effects of the pills mixed in with some level of pain from taking them in such short intervals. The pain from taking these shouldn’t be large, at least the level of soreness after a long or short workout.

‘They’ll be fine. Pain to the Mana Shell naturally makes it grow back stronger.’

Their Mana Core was just expanding into their shells from the large intake of mana they were absorbing, nothing much. Nor was the amount she had given enough for their Mana Shell to crack and cause it to form another shell.

If that were to happen, it would’ve been quite bad since it would have limited their potential a bit.

Once the two had finally awoken from their meditation and felt the purity of their mana through their bodies, they immediately leapt onto their feet and tested their abilities.

Emilio aimed his hand towards the trunk of a nearby tree and yelled out:

“[Eclipse Beam]!”

Both light and darkness wrapped around each other in the centre of his palm before creating a beam that tore through the trunk with ease.

Viesta walked up to a nearby tree and gently smacked it. Then, a moment later, a powerful delayed impact occurred and caused a deep dent to appear in the trunk.

Both of them widened their eyes.

Emilio widened his, not because his attack had been able to destroy the trunk of the tree, but because he still felt ready to go. He wasn’t tired even after firing off an offensive spell!

Viesta had widened hers due to the increased force behind the delayed impact; it was much more powerful compared to before! If only she didn’t have a limited supply of bullets, she would’ve been shooting them to test out the extent of her element.

Watching as the two tested their abilities, Lillian watched as their faces became even more incredulous and amazed by their abilities. She smiled at this, finding joy in their reaction, but then watched as they turned towards her.

Lillian tilted her head at this before raising an eyebrow as she watched them rush towards her. Were they intending on ganging up on her in the name of sparring?

As Lillian was about to prepare herself, she felt no sort of fighting intent behind their movements, causing her to lower her guard and find herself knocked onto the ground as they climbed on top of her.

“THANK YOU, LILLIAN!” x 2

“W-what the—!?”

Lillian looked down with a baffled expression as she watched they cling to her body like little kids. Was this really going to be their way of expressing their gratitude towards her!?

She had somewhat expected this kind of reaction from Emilio, given what he was like, but Viesta? Wasn’t she too mature for this kind of gesture?!

“G-get of—” Lillian hesitated from pushing them away as she looked into their thankful eyes.

She let out a groan, but then sighed, smiling a bit as she looked down on them.

Not many people in the world were able to express themselves, especially their child-like selves, in fear of being judged.

‘If they want to act like this, who am I to deny them this right?’

A motherly look appeared in her eyes as she raised her hands towards their head. But then, the face of a certain Assassin flashed through her mind, which prompted her to immediately transform into water.

Lillian swiftly leapt out of their clutches and reformed back into her original self. With a slight blush on her face, she waved her hand at them before looking back towards the fight between the Wendigo and the Captain.

And that was when she heard—

“[5th Technique of the Deep Sea Hunter: Leviathan’s Descent]!”

Lillian’s eyes shot wide open as a humongous illusory leviathan appeared in the sky, towering over them as it descended at a rapid rate.

Grabbing onto Viesta and watching as Jon grabbed onto Emilio, the two of them leapt out of the way with their respective person and—

THUD!

—Dodged the destructive attack of the Captain’s attack.

The winds rolled over from the thunderous impact, the trees stumbled and fell as the ground beneath them became uneven and torn apart.

Under the sea of dust clouds was a crater that had a radius of 15 metres, which became progressively deeper the further you moved towards the centre.

And lying in the centre was Jungle Lord, who had the centre of his body crushed to a pulp.

Its eyes, which were once a soft and cold white, flickered out into a pure dark viridian as its body began to put itself back together, and the grass in its blood grew at an exponential rate.

The Captain climbed out of the crater and walked out of the dust cloud, approaching Lillian, who stared back in surprise.

“Did you just randomly decide to use your last technique!?”

The Captain shrugged and pointed back with his thumb, “That fiend of yars is durable enough to survive that attack, I’m sure.”

Lillian’s face darkened, and she planted her face into her hand. That wasn’t something she was worried about… Instead—

DUM!

“KREEEEEH!”

—She was worried about the Jungle Lord’s descent into its second stage.

With the sound of the spine-chilling roar, everyone snapped their heads towards the dust cloud and watched as something shot out in dozens—all targeting the Captain, who was shocked by what he saw.

Raising his cutlass, he defended against the seemingly endless number of vines targeting him, parrying them towards the ground, which exploded out from the force of them.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

When the barrage of vines soon ceased, the Captain sliced through them with a single slash before looking back.

“Is everyone alrigh—?”

But what he expected to see was now there. Everyone who was supposedly behind him had already run away in search of safety. His expression became blank, but he soon let out an exasperated sigh.

“What a bunch of—”

Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to finish this sentence of his as he felt the ground tremble beneath him and noticed that the trees around them were suddenly impaled by vines extending from the inside of the crater.

With a mana pulse, the Captain found something digging through the ground towards his general location! He leapt towards the sky and watched as the ground beneath him erupted with spike-like vines.

Sensing that this situation was a lot more serious than it should’ve been, he grew a pair of wings from his back using his element and took to the skies.

But then, he watched as all the impaled trees around him exploded out with vines; all targeting his airborne figure. Their speed was faster than he expected!

Taking a stance in the air, the Captain swung his sword and took down all the hostile vines. He scowled.

Was the Jungle Lord that butthurt that he took it down in a single strike?

As he was thinking this, he looked down and found the body of the Jungle Lord exiting out of the dust cloud. The Wendigo’s eerie eyes settled on him and, within a few seconds, its elongated neck extended drastically.

The skull of the Jungle Lord rushed towards him in the air at high speed, like a true horrific fiend.

The Captain made a wide frown as he readied his sword, preparing to cut down the monster, before watching as another head appeared, darting towards him.

It was made out of pure plasma and was closely reminiscent of the Two-headed Leviathan he had faced!

Could it be the spirit of the Leviathan had now been awoken and after him?! Was it also butthurt that it was defeated as well!?

He clicked his tongue and shifted his stance, intending to take both of them out. But then he watched as the plasmatic head made an abrupt turn towards the Jungle Lord’s neck and bit through, causing the Wendigo’s skull to fall to the ground.

Thud!

The head of the Jungle Lord plummeted and crashed into the ground, shaking as it began to reconnect with its main body before noticing something.

Lillian slowly walked to its head with an annoyed expression. She flicked her hand and summoned the corpse of a random beast.

Grabbing onto the deceased monster, she began to shove it inside the Jungle Lord’s mouth.

“Come on! Eat it! You’re hungry, aren’t you!?”

After Lillian began to stomp countless corpses she hid within her spatial ring down the Jungle Lord’s—now regenerated—throat, the Wendigo’s rampage finally ceased.

***

Once the situation regarding the Wendigo had been solved, everyone went on with their training. This time, with many more improvements.

Emilio’s insight into his magic and even physical activities was far more enlightening compared to before. Viesta had even begun to use her element passively, using its echoing effects to increase her hearing.

All in all, Lillian felt she had done some good.

CLANG!

Lillian parried a swing from Emilio’s cutlass with her own and countered back. She had accepted Emilio’s request for a spar, although she was taking it extremely easy on him.

With her current level of experience against powerful foes, opponents of Emilio’s level weren’t her match. However, she did find that sparing with Emilio did improve her own skills a bit.

It was said that teaching others ultimately refines your knowledge of that subject.

Lillian slashed down and watched as the young man blocked her strike, albeit barely. Her eyes looked over his arms and found them to be quite stiff.

She knew Emilio was trying to implement some of his family’s Combat Style into his movements, but seemed to be failing a bit; a lot less compared to before, though, at least.

After pushing him back, she said:

“Bend your elbows a little; it helps absorb the impact.”

“Ah, right, I was taught something like that.”

Lillian sparred with Emilio for a bit before leaving him with the Captain, who was much more ruthless in his teaching, mostly because the bearded man was still new to the art of teaching others.

She was a bit gentler in the art, considering she used to have countless colleagues and also acquaintances in the past who occasionally needed her help.

After making sure everything was good with Viesta, she went back to sparring with the Jungle Lord, where—after half an hour or so—she managed to comprehend the next Expression of the Deep Sea Hunter.

The Drowning Net.

Once carving a tree into cubes, Lillian quickly moved on to trying to comprehend the next technique—the Leviathan’s Descent.
