Chapter 312: Chapter 308 – The Fire of War Against Eternal Death
The colossal hall changed instantly the moment Korthan moved even a fraction of his massive body. air, once merely warm, now turned into blazing heat. black stone pillars around them cracked, glowing red as though magma beneath the surface responded to their master’s fury.

Sylvia stood at the very front, unmoving, her calm gaze fixed on the God of War.

But all around them…

Pressure fell like a meteor.

The moment Korthan took a single step forward, the sound of molten metal and roaring lava fused into one. A wave of heat slammed across the hall like a windless storm of pure power emanating from his form.

Alicia instinctively raised a soul barrier. Stacia sharpened her gaze, bending the flow of time around them so the heat wouldn’t scorch their skin. Sofia radiated soft white light that neutralized part of the aggressive flames.

The little Treant on Sylvia’s head squirmed miserably, his small branches drooping like he was about to wilt.

“Plop…”

(Hot… too hot…)

Sofia raised a hand toward him, offering shade with her holy light.

Yet Sylvia still did not move.

The pressure could not penetrate her. Heat could not touch her skin. And the blazing red glow around them looked like ordinary shadows to her.

Korthan saw this.

And he laughed.

His laugh sounded like two mountains erupting at once.

“HAHAHAHA!! GOOD! Very good!”

He lifted his chin slightly, studying Sylvia like a newly forged weapon waiting to be tested in battle.

“My war pressure doesn’t affect you… nor the others.

But do not get arrogant.”

His burning eyes narrowed.

“How dare a bunch of insignificant creatures walk into the temple of gods without fear?”

The heat surged violently, creating waves of distortion that made the entire hall sway like a ship in a hurricane.

Alicia shrugged.

“Wow, from welcoming to insulting, the fastest shift in mood I’ve ever seen.”

Stacia sighed softly.

“That’s normal for a war god. Ego and insults are his native tongue.”

Korthan raised one hand.

From the air out of nothing a colossal axe formed.

It wasn’t made of metal.

It was forged purely from roaring red flames swirling like a tornado of molten lava. The handle was pitch-black, like the charred bone of some giant beast. The blade wasn’t solid; it was fire given shape writhing, shifting, alive.

Even the air trembled.

The little Treant immediately clung to Sylvia’s head tightly.

Plop!

(I DON’T LIKE HIM!)

But Sylvia only glanced at the axe utterly unbothered.

Korthan gripped his weapon. The ground beneath his feet cracked.

“I grant you an honor, Death.

Try to endure one strike of mine.”

He swung the axe back and in a single movement…

KORTHAN HURLED THE FLAME AXE STRAIGHT AT SYLVIA.

It flew like a crimson meteor, ripping the air apart into shards of blistering heat.

Alicia almost screamed. Sofia raised a barrier. Stacia began bending time but Sylvia had already moved. She lifted her hand calm, elegant, like a queen pronouncing judgment.

The air behind her split open, revealing a void of pure darkness.

From that void, Chains of the Abyss surged forth but not in the form they had seen before.

The chains weren’t merely black. They were coated entirely in Death Flame pure deathfire so dark it swallowed the surrounding light. Its sparks were not red or orange, but deep blue, black, and violet.

Every spark consumed the air it did not burn.

Sylvia hurled her chain as though throwing a divine spear.

BOOOOM!!!

Their attacks collided midair.

Red fire of war vs. black fire of death.

The colors warred in an instant. Red and black devoured each other, clawing and twisting violently. The shockwave blasted through the hall like a formless hurricane.

Sofia spread her wings, creating a dome of holy light. Alicia cast a second soul barrier. Stacia slowed the explosion’s flow of heat.

Even then they were all pushed back several steps.

Except Sylvia.

She did not move at all.

Her hair lifted in the passing heat, and her eyes locked on Korthan, the eyes of a queen who never retreats.

Korthan didn’t dodge either. He let the explosion wash over him while the statues along the walls shook violently.

The flames on his head roared higher.

Once the smoke began to clear some of the floor had melted into glowing liquid stone. And standing amidst the haze…

Korthan smiled.

The smile of a god who had finally found an opponent worthy of stirring his heart.

“Good,” he said, voice like molten rock sliding down a ravine.

“You stopped my axe.”

His fiery hair flickered.

Then His eyes narrowed again.

“But you only stopped it.”

He raised his hand.

A massive ring of flame ignited behind him.

“To challenge the gods…

you must be able to return the attack.”

Sylvia’s expression did not change.

The Chains of the Abyss hovered beside her like vipers waiting to strike. Behind her, Sofia felt the pressure growing unbearably.

“Sylvia…”

Her breath caught.

“His combat ability… it’s not normal. Even for a war god… he’s not holding back.”

Alicia nodded rapidly.

“This isn’t a spar! He’s actually trying to kill us!”

Stacia tightened her grip on her staff.

“No. He’s testing Sylvia. If she fails then he’ll kill us.”

The Treant yelled in frustration:

PLOP !!

(BORING! JUST CRUSH HIM!)

Sylvia lifted her hand; the chains danced behind her.

She stepped forward just slightly, and the cracked floor froze beneath her as her Death Aura descended.

Those dark red eyes glowed with lethal clarity.

“I did not come here to be tested,” she said softly.

Korthan burst into laughter.

“Then let us see how far DEATH CAN WALK!”

He leapt from his throne with speed unimaginable for his size.

The entire temple shook.

A second explosion erupted when his feet hit the floor, sending cracks spiderwebbing outward.

Sofia readied her spear. Alicia and Stacia braced for the next wave of heat. The Treant glowed pitch-black, ready to attack.

And Sylvia…

She stood like the center of a storm. The Chains of the Abyss arched behind her. Death Flame coiled around her like an infernal halo.

Before two overwhelming forces…

Korthan dashed forward like a comet of blazing fire ripped from the heavens. His massive steps cracked the marble floor reinforced by divine energy.

DOOM! DOOM! DOOM!

Even before he reached Sylvia, the heat felt like the sun crashing into the temple.

Alicia hugged her head.

“I hate heat!!”

Stacia folded time around her lungs to keep them from burning. Sofia’s wings radiated holy light to keep the group from melting.

But Sylvia, She moved only when Korthan was mere meters away, a distance that meant instant death for most beings.

She slid her foot lightly across the floor, and her chains lunged like a swarm of feral serpents.

“Chains of the Abyss.”

The chains slashed through the air…

KRRRRAAAK !!

like reality itself being cut.

Korthan thrust his bare hand forward.

The palm of the war god burned white-hot, and the moment the chain struck…

BOOM!!

Another eruption of energy burst outward.

White dust exploded. Heat storms howled like dragons. Several gigantic statues toppled. But only two figures remained solid amidst the chaos:

Korthan And Sylvia.

Neither budged.

Neither staggered.

Neither flinched.

The chain burned with black fire, coiling and snapping around Korthan’s arm. His arm glowed fiercely, cracks of light crawling across his divine skin.

Korthan grinned a row of volcanic rock fangs gleaming.

“Fire against fire… but your flames are different, Death.”

He pressed harder. The heat in the hall spiked wildly…

“Your fire doesn’t give life.”

His grin widened.

“Your fire only consumes.”

Sylvia didn’t blink.

Her aura rose like a black mist eager to swallow the world.

“That’s the difference,” Sylvia said quietly.

“I don’t need to give.”

She flicked her wrist.

The chain suddenly elongated a thousand-fold, forcing Korthan to leap back.

The ground he stepped on melted.

Sylvia stepped forward. Her movement was not human, nor undead, nor demonic and not even divine. It was the movement of death itself walking.

Not fast. slow, rushed or hindered.

Every step carved silence into the world.

Korthan hurled a massive wave of fire toward her.

This wasn’t an ordinary flame. It was the Fire of War itself shaped from blood, honor, history, and the screams of endless battlefields.

Flame Burst of Eternal War.

Even gods hated taking this head-on.

Sylvia simply raised her chain.

The Chains of the Abyss devoured the fire.

The red flames collapsed inward and turned into black fire.

Alicia’s eyes popped wide.

“SYLVIA you’re EATING that attack?!”

Stacia squinted.

“That… should be impossible. War fire isn’t extinguishable.”

Sofia smiled faintly, equal parts proud and frightened.

“You forget,” she said softly.

“Sylvia is no longer just undead. She is… Mortifera.”

The Treant puffed up proudly.

PLOP !

(See?! My queen is unstoppable!!)

Sylvia swung her chain again and a smaller explosion of black fire detonated as it hit a lava shield Korthan conjured.

“You learn fast,” Korthan said, now serious.

“Too fast.”

Sylvia pulled her chain back. The black fire gathered at the tip like a spear.

“I don’t need to learn.”

She jumped.

Korthan swept his hand, causing the floor to erupt into a wave of molten lava. The temple floor moved like a living sea of flame.

Sylvia cleaved it with her chain.

The wave split cleanly. Perfectly.

Fire and water were never meant to look alike but Sylvia’s strike made the molten tsunami cut apart like mere water.

Korthan’s eyes widened slightly.

“Interesting…”

He finally raised both hands, calling his axe back.

Flames swirl.

The axe materialized in his grip, blazing even larger than before.

Korthan lifted it high.

“I ACKNOWLEDGE YOU ARE NO ORDINARY FOE!”

Sylvia lifted her chain.

“And I acknowledge… you’re hard-headed.”

They lunged at each other.

War flame and Death flame.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM !!!

The entire temple shook as though it would rip free from its foundations. Their battle had only begun. And neither of them had used anything more than a warm-up.
