Chapter 258: Chapter 255 – Shadow War
In a desolate plain far from the main battlefield, the sky was dark gray, as if holding its breath. Sylvia stood in the middle of the cracked earth, her body faintly glowing with a deathly aura that pierced the air. The darkness around her seemed alive; the branches of the Nether Wood crawled along the ground, ready to embrace and crush anyone who dared challenge her.
In front of her, six figures radiated an entirely different kind of light; they were not ordinary heroes but elite paladins, each blessed by an enemy god. Their auras pulsed like waves of pure power, pressing down on Sylvia.
“Velgrath… Nerys… Korthan… Olmerath… Xynareth… Zha’gor…” Sylvia muttered, reading their auras. “Six blessings of enemy gods, and one body capable of facing them all.”
The first paladin stepped forward Darian, blessed by Velgrath, his body sheathed in pitch-black light that seemed to swallow every shadow around him. He raised a long sword, its tip glowing darkly.
“We have come to stop you, Lunabris.”
Before Sylvia could respond, Eryndor, the second paladin blessed by Nerys, lifted his hand. Black water dripped from his palm, each drop containing the essence of countless drowned souls.
“Even this world must not fall under your dominion.”
Thalion (Korthan), Vaelric (Olmerath), Lysera (Xynareth), and Kaelthas (Zha’gor) formed a circle, radiating flames, darkness, emptiness, and storms, each waiting for the signal to strike.
Sylvia studied them for a moment, observing every movement.
“A foolish display of blessings,” she whispered. Without warning, the Nether Wood branches beneath her grew wildly.
CRRRAAACKKK!
Fingers of wood transformed into lethal claws, striking at Darian. But he only smiled, Velgrath’s aura consuming the branches before they could touch him.
“Quick, but not enough,” he said, leaping into the air with incredible speed.
Sylvia’s gaze sharpened. She pressed Death Aura, spreading a 50-meter radius around her, corroding the ground and air with black decay. The paladins shivered under its effect, though their divine blessings shielded them partially.
Meanwhile, Vaelric channeled Olmerath’s power into his sword, each swing cleaving through the space around him. Sylvia activated Death Step Mirage, her shadowy forms appearing in three different locations. SWOOSHH! She evaded Vaelric’s blade, capable of cutting stone.
Lysera focused on Xynareth’s power, channeling emptiness around Sylvia. Space seemed to vanish, as if the ground and air itself had disappeared. Sylvia summoned Chains of Abyss black chains erupted, binding some of the void shadows. CLAAAANG! The chains temporarily held Lysera’s energy, but she was pulled into the air by the force of the void’s gravity.
Kaelthas, blessed by Zha’gor, laughed lowly. The ground beneath Sylvia trembled, forming spiral cracks spreading in all directions. Sylvia activated Phantom Bloom, Nether flowers exploded, and branches and blossoms spiraled outward, striking the approaching paladins. They were blocked with magical shields from their divine blessings.
The battle escalated. Sylvia moved like shadows, chains, and aura intertwining. CLANG! THUD! SWOOSH! Every physical and magical strike she unleashed was destroyed, deflected, or absorbed by the paladins’ blessings.
Thalion screamed, Korthan’s fire burning the air, sending heat waves that shook the ground. Sylvia smiled coldly, her Eclipse Piercing claws penetrating his defense, a single strike producing a corroding explosion on Thalion’s body, making him stagger.
But this was only the beginning. The other paladins attacked simultaneously, exploiting small gaps. Sylvia activated Appraisal, reading their strengths instantly, adjusting her strategy. She unleashed Oblivion Roots, black tendrils piercing the ground and their bodies, spreading parasitic decay and crippling parts of their limbs. SSSSKKK!
Darian flinched, Velgrath’s aura momentarily cracking, yet he remained standing.
“Lunabris, you cannot resist the will of the gods,” he said, leaping, spinning his sword to strike her from above.
Sylvia activated Death Step Mirage again, her form appearing behind him, evading the blow.
“You speak too much for a creature that can be destroyed!” she retorted with Venom Reaper Claw, her poisonous talons slicing through Darian, spreading chain infection, though Velgrath’s blessing saved him partially.
The fight grew brutal. Paladins and Sylvia attacked endlessly. Each time Sylvia swung her chains, CLANK! Each time they struck, SWOOSH! BOOM! Explosions of energy and magic filled the air.
Yet despite her power, facing six opponents with divine blessings was a formidable challenge. They moved in unison, protecting each other, pressing Sylvia from all sides.
Sylvia drew a breath. Soul Chains spread to the zombies guarding the area, ordering them to hold off any intrusion should the fight escalate. She knew no one could assist her; this was a one-against-six battle.
Meanwhile, the paladins began combining their divine powers. Lysera and Kaelthas created void zones, restricting Sylvia’s movement; Thalion and Vaelric attacked with waves of fire and sword strikes; Darian and Eryndor pressured from the front with Velgrath and Nerys’ might.
“Now or never…” Sylvia whispered. She channeled all her energy into Chain Technique: Form 1 – Binding, giant chains lashing toward all six paladins simultaneously. Yet the effect only restrained them slightly; the divine blessings absorbed most of the attack.
BAM! BOOM! CRACK! Air shattered with collisions of magic, chains, and auras. Sylvia was thrown back several steps, yet her cold smile remained. She had not used Unification yet, her ultimate skill capable of boosting all stats by 600% her trump card, reserved for when the situation demanded it.
The paladins appeared exhausted but did not retreat. Blessed by the gods, divine will flowed through their bodies. Sylvia stared at all six, her figure slowly glowing darker, the deathly aura thickening, chains poised for the next ruthless assault.
“This is just the beginning,” Sylvia murmured, her eyes glowing red-black, ready to unleash an unforgiving strike against the six elite paladins blessed by enemy gods.
Meanwhile, in the outside world, the main battlefield was still in chaos. Celes, Aurellia, Alicia, Stacia, and Velthya’s forces held the lower gates, unaware that Sylvia was facing another threat, a battle that could alter the course of the war.
The air around Sylvia quivered, nearly cutting through flesh. The six elite paladins, each blessed by a god, stared at her like predators eyeing the final prey, waves of power radiating from their very beings, pressing down on every inch of the earth.
“Do not waste time…” Darian’s voice echoed, his Velgrath blade glowing black.
“You will be erased from this world, Lunabris.”
Sylvia moved her hand. Chains of Abyss lashed toward the six enemies. CLAAANG! Some paladins blocked the chains, yet dark sparks exploded in the air. The chains crawled along the ground, dark roots piercing the earth, attempting to restrain them.
Eryndor, blessed by Nerys, struck the ground, black water falling from the sky, forming waves that surged at Sylvia. SHHHH-KK! Some spreading chains were submerged, delaying the attack.
Thalion, Korthan’s blessed, unleashed waves of fire from his sword. The flames pierced space like a war anthem, deafening ears and burning Sylvia’s death aura. But she was ready Death Aura flared, corroding the ground beneath Thalion, exuding a pungent deathly stench.
Vaelric, Olmerath’s chosen, created an invisible barrier between reality and shadow. Every step Sylvia took felt slowed, even the chains she threw moved sluggishly, as if passing through thick air. Sylvia pressed Phantom Bloom; Nether flowers exploded, roots and branches breached the barrier, striking Vaelric and cutting part of his illusions. CRAAACK!
Lysera concentrated emptiness around Sylvia. Gravity, ground, air, and light seemed to drift away. Sylvia’s eyes were cold; Appraisal active, she moved with Death Step Mirage, appearing elsewhere, dodging Lysera’s assault with perfect precision.
Kaelthas spun his hands, summoning a spiral storm, pulling Sylvia toward the center.
“Now you will feel the end!” he shouted.
Sylvia smirked, activating Nether Branches. Black tendrils spread, holding back the storm. SKKKKK! The branches pierced the vortex, touching Kaelthas, spreading parasitic decay and immobilizing part of his movements.
The battle became a rapid exchange: chains, poisonous claws, fire, water, void, storms all colliding with extraordinary intensity. CLANG! THUD! SWOOSH! The air erupted with explosions and magical sparks.
Darian tried to break Sylvia’s defense. His Velgrath-infused sword spun, attempting to shatter chains and pierce Death Aura. Sylvia countered with Eclipse Piercing, her twin claws striking through Darian’s blade and hitting his torso. BOOM! Dark energy and corrosion exploded. Darian was thrown back but rose again, glowing stronger.
Eryndor attacked from the side, exploiting the gap Darian left. His black waves hit Sylvia; partially blocked by Death Aura, the rest spread into the ground, forming dark waves forcing her to retreat. She responded with Oblivion Roots, black tendrils emerging, piercing Eryndor’s limbs, spreading parasitic decay. SSSHHHH! Eryndor flinched, yet Nerys’ aura resisted the effect.
Thalion leapt, Korthan’s fire blazing, pushing Sylvia to maneuver again. Death Step Mirage, shadows appearing at three points, creating illusions to confuse the six paladins. But blessed by gods, they could detect every illusion, forcing Sylvia to work even harder.
Vaelric and Lysera combined attacks: Vaelric’s illusion collided with Lysera’s void. Sylvia pressed Soul Chain, black chains reinforcing her coordination, creating CLANG! BOOM! explosions that countered part of their waves.
Kaelthas tried to close gaps with Zha’gor’s storm. Sylvia’s Death Aura strengthened, black branches erupting from ground and air, striking Kaelthas. Explosions of light and darkness collided. CRAAACK! BOOM!
The six paladins realized: Sylvia was no ordinary opponent. She moved with extraordinary precision, her deathly aura thickening, chains and roots piercing nearly every gap. Yet their divine blessings kept them formidable.
The fight became a battle of mind and body. Every movement read, every attack anticipated. The air was filled with the sounds of war: SWOOSH! CRACK! BOOM! SHHHH!
Sylvia smiled faintly. She knew it was not yet time to use Unification. Doing so now would turn the entire battlefield into a true hell, ending the fight too quickly. She wanted to feel their limits, and her own.
Darian struck again, Velgrath’s spinning sword cutting through darkness. Sylvia moved Venom Reaper Claw, poisonous talons hitting Darian’s torso, spreading chain infection. CRAAAACK! Darian flinched but stood again, black blood dripping from his armor.
Eryndor gathered his water energy, forming a small tsunami, attempting to drown Sylvia. He leapt, but Sylvia activated Death Step Mirage, her forms appearing at multiple points, evading the wave. SWOOSH! BOOM! Roots and branches destroyed part of the tsunami, forcing Eryndor back.
Thalion, Lysera, Vaelric, and Kaelthas continued pressing, combining fire, void, illusions, and storms in a relentless assault. Sylvia stared at them, activating Death Aura, Oblivion Roots, and chains simultaneously. CLANG! CRACK! SWOOSH!
Yet all six paladins remained standing, channeling their divine blessings. Every wound healed quickly, every parasitic decay resisted. They kept pressing Sylvia, who moved rapidly, her shadows dancing, chains and aura striking in all directions.
Sylvia smirked faintly, her eyes glowing red-black.
“This is just the beginning…” she murmured, ready to launch the next strike, reserving Unification for the perfect moment to reveal the true power of Lunabris.
The air around the cracks quivered, the earth splitting, and the sounds of battle filled the plain BAM! CRACK! SWOOSH! SHHHH! BOOM! The six paladins stared at Sylvia, realizing: this fight would not end easily.
Meanwhile, in the distance, the main battlefield continued to churn. Sylvia remained focused, facing six divine-blessed paladins, knowing every second here determined the fate of many others in the outside world.
