I Can Program My Body? - Chapter 408
Chapter 408: Deadly Assignment
“For the Star Alliance, your task is to defend the eastern area and prevent any invasion of the dark beasts.” Eldora said, lining up a path they needed to defend.
“This—”
Seeing the area allocated to them, not just Nash but all the others were shocked.
Defending against the dark beasts from breaching their funnel was as hard, maybe even harder, than being a spearhead.
If they were unlucky, they might face multiple tier 6 enemies at once.
The enemy wouldn’t just come from one direction, but from all sides, attracted to their scent.
Usually, this task was handled by multiple top teams. However, after waiting for a while, Eldora seemed to have forgotten about it and was about to move on.
“Can I ask something?” Nash spoke up, seeing that Eldora was about to switch topics.
“What is it?”
“Can you give me more details on what we’re going to do? As you know, it’s our first time doing this.”
“Sure…”
Knowing it was a reasonable question, Eldora could only answer patiently, explaining every detail to Nash.
From the path they needed to defend, how long they needed to last at each checkpoint, what to do if they encountered a threat, everything.
Hearing all of this, Nash’s frown deepened.
It wasn’t that the task was impossible, but it was too troublesome.
Not only did they have to defend, but every dark beast they let through would be deducted from their share.
Furthermore, he sensed something off about the arrangement.
Remembering the teams surrounding them, it seemed that all of them were quite strong.
Even if the Star Alliance was defeated, the rest just needed to shrink their range, and nothing would happen.
Seemingly sent to die, Nash frowned as he turned toward Eldora, who appeared as serious as ever.
However, beneath those eyes, he caught a glint of something darker, a faint killing intent.
“Killing intent?” He wondered how he’d offended this prodigious monster, then glanced at Elizabeth, who was also watching him.
At this moment, Nash seemed to understand something.
“Do you have any other questions?” Eldora asked after finishing his explanation.
“Yes. Why is our share so low?”
“Low?” Eldora had expected Nash to question the difficulty, maybe even switch tasks.
But the proportion of the share? Why would that even matter?
“I’ve given you a proportion worth multiple alliances. How could it be low?”
Usually, the task the Star Alliance had been assigned would be handled by multiple alliances.
Adding up the shares that those teams would receive, the Star Alliance should have the highest reward proportion, besides the Liberty Coalition alliance.
“That’s exactly the case. This task should be taken by multiple teams. However, now that we’ve taken it single-handedly, the reward should increase.”
“Why?”
“With our sacrifice, the range we can funnel through to reach the core vein will naturally be bigger. Coupled with the increased risk involved, I think our reward should not be lower than yours.” Nash said solemnly.
Since he couldn’t refuse the task given to them, then he would increase the reward.
“Increase the reward to match ours?”
Hearing such presumptuous words, silence filled the room.
Even the Liberty Coalition Alliance hadn’t dared to ask for a reward similar to the Solaris Team despite having a harder task, yet Nash dared to?
Feeling a bomb was about to explode, everyone stayed silent.
Lorenzo even clasped his hands together, ready to watch the show unfold.
Unfortunately, Eldora remained composed.
Even after being compared to the likes of the Star Alliance, he still nodded and gave a smile.
“Your task does indeed have such difficulty. Since that’s the case, then you’ll be rewarded the same proportion of share as us. Is that alright?” Eldora scanned the room with his eyes.
Giving the Star Alliance a larger share meant theirs would be cut short.
However, instead of complaining as he’d expected, no one stood up, thinking he was being sincere.
Furthermore, the area they would be traveling through was indeed larger than it had been in the past.
Even with a smaller proportion of shares, they could still have a higher harvest.
“Are you satisfied?” Eldora turned to Nash, noting that he’d failed to incite the crowd.
Anyway, the Star Alliance and Nash were destined to die in this raid. He would make sure of it.
“Yes.” Getting what he wanted, Nash sat down.
“Now, onto the westward side…” Eldora trailed off, considering which alliance to choose.
The formation of their raid was that of a spear with two shields on each side.
While the great teams advanced to break through the passage, the alliances from behind would clear the resource points as they moved forward.
The two shields, on the other hand, acted as protection, shielding them from invading enemies on the flanks.
As for the Liberty Coalition Alliance, they were a flying knife that could pierce through the heart of the enemy by surprise.
Sending them to the core areas within their reach, they could disrupt the flow of the dark beast and give everyone more opportunities to strike.
Now that everything was set up, only the westward shield was missing.
Soon, he thought of a few alliances for the task. But before he could announce the matter, a pleasant voice that set fire to his heart resounded in his ears.
“The Aqua Team will take this task,” Elizabeth said emotionlessly.
“You—”
Thinking of what had happened earlier, it seemed Elizabeth wanted to contradict him to the very end.
“We are willing to step back from the front and protect one of the flanks.”
“Don’t you know your duty as one of the spears? Without your team, we would be less sharp,” Eldora said, his voice rising with indignation.
“Your power is plenty enough. Coupled with the Liberty Coalition alliance that can act as a decoy, I don’t think the power of the Aqua Team is needed.”
“Are you sure?!” Since logic didn’t work, Eldora burst with power, forcing her submission through sheer pressure.
Turning pale from the overwhelming force, Elizabeth stayed stubborn.
She knew if her team continued to stay at the front line, something might happen to them.
With their earlier clash and Eldora’s pettiness, she might be able to survive, but her team wouldn’t.
