Chapter 286: Commissioning Runic Items (2)
“Proceed…” Nash tapped with a little heartache.
Ten million sol was already worth 72 trillion nova credits.
Unlike before, when he only needed a simple pathway for data to connect to the [Library Module System], Nash now aimed to optimize the various parameters in the [Combat Module System].
These parameters focused on more lethal attacks, continuous combos, planned evasions, and overall battlefield awareness.
In essence, Nash wanted to enhance the entire repertoire of the [Combat Module System].
If previously, like in chess, it could predict an opponent’s next three moves, Nash wanted it to calculate up to ten.
Mashing together his combat experience, enemy information, habits, skills, abilities, and runic programs, he tasked the Virtual Assistant with optimizing the [Combat Module System] to recognize patterns faster and generate corresponding counters.
Nash planned to repeat this process as he gathered more data, until the [Combat Module System] could instantly calculate the winning condition in any fight.
“Huh… Another massive expense,” Nash sighed.
Just a few years’ worth of accumulated data already costs 72 million sol to process. How much would it cost with more?
And this was without deliberately gathering battle data.
If he added another stream of combat videos to the [Library Module System] and integrated it into the [Combat Module System], the cost could soar into the billions.
It seemed the faster he earned money, the quicker he spent it.
“Money is never enough…”
In the past, tens of thousands would have satisfied him. Now, even with a trillion sol at his disposal, it felt insufficient.
Rubbing his temples, Nash turned back to the Virtual Assistant.
Noticing the long processing time, he continued uploading other data.
Besides the [Combat Module System], he wanted to update the [Team Module System] and transform the [Library Module System] into a universal module system.
First, Nash wanted to split the [Team Module System] into three independent module systems: Communication, Analysis, and Map Positioning.
Though it worked fine on its own, it lacked flexibility in certain situations.
Combining all functions into one module also made optimization tricky.
Even if he wanted to tweak just one function, he had to adjust the others to ensure they matched the changes.
To simplify things, Nash decided to separate them individually.
Since it was a straightforward rework requiring no ingenuity or creativity, he had no qualms handing it to the Virtual Assistant.
The same applied to the [Library Module System].
Besides turning it into a universal module system compatible with others’ runic programs, Nash wanted to add a special backdoor.
This backdoor would automatically record, sort, and categorize every piece of knowledge or battle the user encountered, uploading it to the [Library Module System].
This way, he could save another wave of computational power on uploading books while he accumulated combat experience in the comfort of his home.
“Tsk, tsk, now not only will they benefit from this new module system, but so will I,” Nash said with a smile, starting the work.
—
Two days later, just as his appointment with Ferrin approached, Nash finished inputting various data and parameters for the two module systems.
[This will take at least 122 million sol to calculate and simulate. Do you wish to proceed?]
“Another hefty fee…” Nash sighed but paid regardless.
Though he could do it himself, he didn’t want to waste time.
If money could solve it, he was willing to spend.
His extra computational power was still tied up deducing the soul condensation manual. With it nearing completion, he couldn’t afford to divide his attention further.
Watching the three loading screens crawl like turtles, Nash exited the virtual world and headed to Ferrin’s main forging station.
—
Arriving outside, Nash waited, not wanting to disturb Ferrin in case he wasn’t finished.
Soon, after hours of waiting, the door finally opened.
“I apologize for keeping you waiting.”
“No, Sir Ferrin, take as long as you need. No need to mind me.”
“Alright, enough formalities. Come inside and see if the runic items I created meet your expectations.”
Stepping inside, Nash saw the armour and ring, still smouldering with heat, placed on the anvil.
Ferrin had clearly used a unique technique to stabilize the items’ runic essence while engraving the runic language.
Unlike Nash, who had reached Tier 4 runic engraver through sheer force, most higher-tier engravers had distinct methods to stabilize the materials while they were engraving.
Examining the two works of art, Nash eagerly reached for them.
Ignoring the lingering heat, he equipped both items, activating them with his void and soul power.
Hum~
Suddenly, a thick defensive barrier of earth and water formed, making Nash feel his safety soar to a new level.
“Not bad. They suit you well,” Ferrin said, pleased to see his work come to life.
“Thanks to you, Sir Ferrin. These runic items are like masterpieces!”
Nash hadn’t expected Ferrin to tinker with the items themselves beyond engraving the runic language.
The Primal Armour, in particular, was remarkable. Initially, it required physical impact to activate, but now its defensive range extended to the barrier created by the Aegis Ring.
Though this increased the target area, not needing to face attacks up close gave him greater maneuverability.
“Unfortunately, my skills are limited. Otherwise, I could’ve added a control mechanism to adjust the barrier’s range manually,” Ferrin said with a sigh, noting the minor flaw.
“Haha, it’s fine. This is more than enough,” Nash replied without any complaint.
Once he mastered the runic commands and upgraded his genetic ability, creating a runic module to finely control both items was entirely possible.
“Good!” Ferrin laughed.
—
Soon, the two began testing the runic items’ quality, limits, and variables, ensuring Ferrin hadn’t overlooked anything.
After a few hours of evaluation, the two finished testing, confirming the items were flawless.
“Well, how much do I owe for these masterpieces?”
Though Zeke had said it would be free, Nash couldn’t bear to freeload with such exquisite craftsmanship.
“What do you mean? Didn’t Zeke tell you it was free?” Ferrin muttered with a frown.
Turning his hard-earned work into a mere monetary transaction left a bitter taste in his mouth.
