Chapter 559: Movements In The Shadows I
The combination of authorities from two opposing Civilizations had truly given Achilles his most ridiculous capabilities yet, and as he stood in the damaged hall processing the full scope of what he’d become, his mind worked to understand exactly what limitations still existed on his power if any remained at all.

He looked at the figure of Mycelle as she examined her transformed existence with am expression that combined wonder and calculation.

His gaze drifted back to one of the more ridiculous abilities that he had obtained through his unprecedented integration, and he found himself repeatedly examining the same three words with growing incredulity about their implications.

Perfect Resonance Integration.

Just three words, but when he looked at them again and again while his consciousness parsed every possible interpretation, he almost had to ask himself whether the definition was not entirely correct or if it did not truly mean what it appeared to mean on surface level. The capability seemed too powerful to function as described without significant hidden limitations that the prompts had failed to mention.

The definition itself was simple and straightforward in its phrasing.

Perfect Resonance Integration: Your compatibility with any form of Existential Authority approaches theoretical perfection. Future Assimilation will occur instantaneously regardless of complexity or origin.

Future Assimilations will occur instantaneously regardless of complexity or origin.

This sentence was the key that unlocked truly staggering possibilities, and he found himself asking critical questions about exactly what constraints governed this ability. To what extent did the words “any form of existential authority” actually apply in practice, because the ability effectively told him he could assimilate instantaneously regardless of complexity or origin any type of existential authority that existed within observable reality.

Now, a lot of things were made up of existential authority when examined at fundamental levels. One could argue that everything was comprised of existential authority in various configurations and concentrations. There was the existential authority of The Void that permeated empty space, and Living Existences possessed their Living Existential Authority that defined their nature.

Objects held solidified authority that gave them coherent form, and even abstract concepts carried authority that allowed them to influence reality.

So could he theoretically come across an extremely complex Living Life or Living Necrocracy whose power exceeded his own by orders of magnitude, and so long as he was able to get in their proximity to activate his capability of assimilation by coming in contact with their existence, would they be instantaneously assimilated regardless of their overwhelming complexity?

The ability stated it would work regardless of complexity, which suggested even beings far more powerful than himself could potentially be consumed if he managed to establish the necessary contact!

Going even further with this logical progression, if the terrifying existences that were leading these collapsed Civilizations proceeded to have their emergence and return to full power after eons of dormancy, and if he also managed to simply come in contact with their existence through whatever means, could he also instantaneously assimilate entities bearing the distinction of THE?

Since again…. the ability stated that he could do so regardless of complexity or origin, and it made no exceptions for beings who had achieved such significance!

“…”

These were extremely critical questions that he needed answers to, but he would only obtain such understanding through practice and experimentation. By having something appropriately powerful to test his limits against, and for this purpose he was actually waiting somewhat eagerly for those extremely powerful enemies to show themselves.

The upcoming Legion assault that Mor’takis had described would provide excellent opportunities to determine exactly what Perfect Resonance Integration could accomplish when directed against formidable opponents.

But until then while he waited for enemies worthy of testing his theoretical limits, there was another ability that he wanted to get started on right away because it offered immediate advantages for the coming conflicts.

The Authority of Shadowborn Legions.

He felt his existence buzzing with anticipation as he raised his hand and called upon this new capability, feeling his unique authority spilling outward from his core in patterns that combined life and death principles into something that transcended conventional necromancy or his capability to call forth creatures of The Void.

HUUM!

The Prime Living Existential Authority of Necrocratic Life flowed through the ambient space and began coalescing into forms that possessed neither pure life nor pure death but rather existed in permanent twilight state between the two extremes.

Shadows gathered in the damaged hall with weight that suggested they were more than simple absence of light. They possessed substance and intention, and they responded to his will with eagerness that indicated genuine consciousness rather than simple animation.

The darkness condensed and took shape as beings manifested from the synthesis of opposing principles, their forms solidifying into warriors that would serve his emerging Civilization.

The first Shadowborn stepped forward from the gathered darkness, and its appearance was simultaneously beautiful and terrifying.

Its body appeared humanoid in general structure but possessed proportions that showed it had been designed for combat efficiency rather than mimicking natural biology.

Verdant light pulsed through veins visible beneath translucent obsidian skin, creating patterns that resembled both circuitry and organic systems simultaneously.

Its eyes blazed with intelligence that exceeded what undead or animated constructs typically displayed, and Achilles could sense genuine awareness looking back at him rather than simple programmed responses!

This was not mindless servant but thinking being that had been born from this unique authority!

More Shadowborn manifested as he continued channeling his authority outward, each one unique in minor details while maintaining common characteristics that identified them as members of single species.

Some possessed wings formed from solidified darkness, while others had additional limbs.

Their strength was substantial relative to what he’d observed from genuine Members of the Primordial Civilizations, and his assessment showed each Shadowborn operated at approximately twenty-five percent of Mycelle’s considerable power.

This made them formidable combatants individually, and in coordinated groups they would be able to challenge even elevated beings through overwhelming numerical superiority!

He continued the summoning until one hundred Shadowborn stood assembled in the hall, their combined presence making the ambient authority feel heavy with concentrated power.

They arranged themselves in loose formation and they waited with patient attention for whatever orders he would provide.

Achilles regarded his newly created Legion with satisfaction, then spoke with a voice that carried absolute authority over beings who existed as extensions of his will.

“Scour the Sanctuary for any remaining Living Necrocracies that have evaded detection. Root out infiltrators hiding among the population, and eliminate threats before they can compromise anything.”

…!

The Shadowborn accepted the command with synchronized acknowledgment, and they dispersed with speed that made them blur into streams of twilight essence flowing through the damaged walls.

Within moments the hall was empty except for Achilles and Mycelle, and he could sense his Shadowborn spreading throughout the Sanctuary like living surveillance network that would identify everything he needed to know about this domain’s current state!

He had to fortify this domain and prepare for enemies that would arrive with overwhelming force calibrated specifically to crush whatever resistance they encountered, and every moment of preparation time was precious for ensuring he could transform their assault into opportunity rather than allowing it to become the purge they intended!

Well, it would still be a purge, but not for him!

With this done, he closed his eyes and…

“Rose.”

He called out to his Queen.
