Chapter 554: You gave your word!
The damaged hall fell into tense silence after Achilles’s declaration about a second infiltrator hiding among them.

In the next moment, a Living Life slowly stepped forward to the shock of many others who’d served alongside him for what must have been considerable time.

He was an entity with humanoid physiology whose form radiated subtle authority that had allowed him to blend seamlessly into the Sanctuary’s administrative hierarchy without drawing undue attention.

His expression was cold and calm as he spoke with a voice that carried no trace of fear or desperation.

“You will allow me to leave?”

…!

This blatant admission infuriated Mycelle and the other gathered Members, and Achilles could see several preparing to manifest their authorities for immediate attack.

The audacity of stepping forward and confirming their infiltrator status while simultaneously demanding safe passage violated every instinct they possessed about proper justice, and their collective rage was palpable!

Achilles raised his hand before they could begin raining down judgment of Life on this revealed Living Necrocracy, and his gesture carried enough commanding weight that even Mycelle hesitated despite her obvious fury.

He maintained his seated position on the throne with a posture of complete confidence in his ability to control this situation regardless of how it developed.

He nodded.

“I gain nothing from killing you while information that is pivotal to my existence would be much more appreciated.” His voice carried reasonable tone that made the proposal sound logical despite its controversial nature.

“And I have sworn on my very Life, on THE Slumbering Genesis whom I follow. I would never be able to go back on my word now, would I? Otherwise I would injure my Way and compromise the fundamental principles that grant me authority within this Civilization.”

…!

Achilles smiled devilishly as he delivered this declaration, and internally he appreciated the irony of what he was saying.

He knew he was not bound in the same manner that other Living Lives were constrained by their adherence to established Doctrine, since he’d consumed rather than accepted the inheritance mechanisms that would have imposed such limitations.

His Way of Assimilation operated according to different principles that gave him flexibility other Members couldn’t claim!

The Living Life who’d stepped forward began changing and transforming in response to Achilles’s promise. His verdant coloration drained away as obsidian brilliance erupted from his core, and deathly wings of corrupted light manifested from his back with span that rivaled Mycelle’s own magnificent appendages.

His entire physiology shifted to reveal what he’d been concealing beneath layers of sophisticated disguise, and his gaze when it swept across the gathered Living Lives carried cold distaste that suggested he’d found maintaining his cover to also be a profoundly unpleasant experience.

“I am Mor’takis,” he stated, speaking his true name with voice that no longer carried any pretense of warmth or collegiality. “And it matters not if all of you gathered here know what I am about to reveal, since events are already unfolding according to plans that were set in motion long before this unfortunate exposure.”

He looked at each Living Life individually with expression that combined contempt with something approaching pity.

“I do not wish to be collapsed if I can live longer and continue serving THE Corpse Hierophant’s glorious vision.” His tone suggested this was self-evident motivation that required no justification. “So I will share what you wish to know, Noble thing, and in exchange you will honor your sworn word and permit my departure from this sanctuary.”

Mor’takis’s obsidian wings spread wider as he began explaining with voice that carried grim certainty.

“Across Observable Existence, there are countless Shattered Folds where the Way of Necrocracy reigns supreme and unchallenged. Entire regions of reality have been converted to align with death principles, their fundamental structures reshaped to support our Civilization’s dominance.” He paused, allowing the scope of what he was describing to register with his shocked audience.

“With the slumber of THE Corpse Hierophant after the Age of Collapse, THE False Corpse Emperors have been following the guidance of Esteemed Corpses to coordinate our long-term strategy toward his resurrection.”

His expression grew more intense as he continued detailing information that clearly troubled the gathered Living Lives.

“THE False Emperors have been systematically devouring and consolidating the Civilizational Authority of all other Collapsed Civilizations, converting what remains of fallen organizations into fuel for THE Corpse Hierophant’s eventual emergence.”

“We have infiltrated many remaining sanctuaries, corrupted countless members of opposing Civilizations, and extracted strategic intelligence that will ensure our final offensive succeeds where previous campaigns might have encountered unexpected resistance.”

He gestured toward the gathered Living Lives with motion that suggested they were merely representative samples of larger pattern.

“We are currently at the end of this consolidation process. The Legions of Necrocracy are preparing for a period of comprehensive Fold Conquest, during which we will systematically locate and eliminate all remaining Collapsed Civilizations and their sanctuaries.” His smile was cold and predatory.

“Spies like myself and Vel’tharion have provided precise information on exactly where these sanctuaries exist, what defensive forces they maintain, and what weaknesses can be exploited.”

…!

His next words hit with force that made several gathered Members visibly pale.

“Which means that the Legions of Necrocracy that will be dispatched when the time comes will be calibrated specifically to overwhelm whatever resistance each sanctuary can muster. Not merely sufficient forces for victory, but overwhelming superiority that ensures complete annihilation without fail and without significant losses to our own forces.”

The faces of Mycelle and the other Living Lives became ashen as they processed implications of what Mor’takis was describing.

Their sanctuary wasn’t uniquely targeted but rather one location among countless others that would be systematically purged during upcoming offensive.

Achilles frowned as he absorbed this information and calculated what it meant for him.

He sighed internally as his consciousness processed cascading implications across multiple scenarios, and he recognized he had considerable work ahead if he wanted to adequately prepare for these conflicts.

He had his own Sanctuary in The Void that housed Rose and the entire Adrastia Lineage among countless others, including his resurrected ancestors and the relocated Sea of Thalassara.

That domain needed to remain unaffected and unswept by endless waves of death, which meant he needed to understand enemy capabilities thoroughly and develop countermeasures that would protect what he’d claimed.

‘A lot to assimilate’, he thought with grim appreciation for the challenge ahead.

So he nodded to the Living Necrocracy with an expression that suggested satisfaction about receiving valuable intelligence.

“Thanks for this information. Anything else you’d like to share before departing?”

Mor’takis regarded him with calculating expression that suggested he was weighing how much additional information he could safely reveal.

“I believe in your words and your Way,” Mor’takis said carefully, though his tone suggested this belief was pragmatic rather than genuine.

“But I won’t say anything else until the Sanctuary Gates are opened and I’m permitted to leave this domain entirely. Once I’m beyond your immediate reach, perhaps we can discuss additional details through more secure communication channels.”

Achilles smiled at this qualified cooperation.

“I see.”

He maintained his smile as he looked toward Mycelle with an expression that communicated clear command despite casual tone.

“Hold this fucker down. The rest of you too. He is weaker than Vel’tharion was, so coordinated effort should be sufficient to immobilize him completely.”

…!

The scene exploded into shocked confusion from both sides as gathered beings processed what Achilles had just commanded. Had he not sworn on Life itself, on his Way and on THE Slumbering Genesis whom he claimed to follow? If he went back on such sacred oath and violated sworn word given before witnesses…

But Mycelle moved with immediate response that said she trusted his judgment over her own moral concerns.

Minor Glyphs of Life formed into chains and began wrapping around Mor’takis with binding force, and the other Living Lives descended to reinforce the restraints despite their visible confusion about whether participating in this betrayal would compromise their own adherence to proper Doctrine.

Mor’takis struggled against the suddenly manifesting restraints with desperate strength, but he was unable to break the coordinated shackles as multiple powerful beings worked together to immobilize him!

His obsidian wings flared wide as he poured power into escape attempt, but the combined authority of Mycelle and the other genuine Members overwhelmed his individual capability!

He roared at Achilles with a voice that combined fury and betrayed shock.

“You gave your word! You swore on your Life and your Way! You invoked THE Slumbering Genesis as witness to your oath!” His struggles intensified as the chains tightened further.

“How can you violate such sacred promise without destroying your own foundation? Every principle that grants you authority within this Civilization demands you honor sworn commitments!”

Achilles rose from the throne and floated over with a calm expression that suggested mild amusement about the situation rather than concern about cosmic consequences.

He descended until he was level with the restrained Living Necrocracy, close enough that Mor’takis could see the cold calculation in his verdant-gold eyes.

“Fuck my word.”

The statement was delivered with casual indifference that made clear he felt no obligation to honor commitments given to enemies regardless of how formally such promises had been structured.

He arrived directly in front of the struggling Living Necrocracy and raised his hand toward Mor’takis’s head. His fingers extended toward the being’s skull, and his expression shifted toward focused concentration that indicated whatever he was preparing demanded his full attention!

His other hand gestured subtly toward Mycelle, and she understood the unspoken command. Her Minor Glyphs tightened further around Mor’takis, completely immobilizing his head and preventing any defensive maneuvers that might interrupt what Achilles was attempting.

Achilles placed his fingers against Mor’takis’s skull with gentle pressure that contrasted sharply with the violent intent behind the gesture.

His consciousness focused entirely on the being before him, and he spoke with voice that only Mor’takis could hear, words transmitted directly into the Living Necrocracy’s mind through their point of contact.

“Assimilate.”

WAA!

The command was absolute, and Mor’takis felt his existence being seized by mechanisms he couldn’t comprehend or resist.

His memories, his accumulated knowledge, his understanding of Necrocracy’s planning, his awareness of upcoming offensive operations, his entire existence…all of it began flowing toward Achilles!

Mor’takis screamed as he felt his consciousness being violated at fundamental levels, but the sound emerged muffled and distorted through the chains binding him.

His obsidian eyes widened with terminal horror as he recognized what was happening!

The gathered Living Lives watched with mixture of fascination and concern as Achilles remained motionless with fingers pressed against Mor’takis’s skull.

They couldn’t perceive the technique he was employing or understand what capability allowed him to extract existence through such direct method, but they could see the effects as Mor’takis’s struggles gradually weakened and his expression shifted from fury toward empty despair, and his body even began rapidly dissolving as it seemed everything regarding his existence…was being drawn towards Achilles!

It was the Assimilation of another Existence of another Civilization…what would it bring?!
