Chapter 299: Profit Or Bust!? [FIXED!]
Kyle was glad with the way his life had turned out, but a few factors were standing in his way.

However, Kyle was aware things wouldn’t be as easy as he thought because this was a criminal organisation that had survived worse.

The FBI was something he knew he might get involved with because Priscilla wasn’t enough for something of this magnitude.

If they were willing to cut someone to pieces, he could only imagine what they would do to a cop who crossed them the wrong way.

Nothing was stopping or separating him from any of this, but Kyle knew he had to put a stop to everything.

Kyle rounded up his conversation on the phone with Jane, but the text he sent to Ella never got a response, unfortunately.

Kyle understood why it played out the way it did because there was still that awkwardness that came with last night.

Kyle didn’t mind because he knew she was coming back, so there was no need to rush the process.

Kyle found this behaviour cute as it showed that despite her behaviour, she retained her feminine nature at a core level.

Kyle was taking his time; he noticed Jones was nowhere to be found, but this must mean he spent the night at the hospital.

It was better to be safe than sorry, but there was a line that couldn’t be blurred because even if Kyle was worried, he had to keep it professional, at least for now.

Their marriage was facing challenges, and the last thing they needed was more tension, as it could ruin everything they had managed to resolve.

Kyle was going to play mediator, but both of them had to consent to it for it to work.

The paperwork had been signed for the man to be checked into rehab, Kyle didn’t plan on pressing any charges and managed to convince Prisicilla not to take any action against him.

Kyke got dressed and headed out for fresh air, but as he was stepping out, he got a surprise call from Oliver.

“Hello, does Priscilla know you’re calling me?” Kyle asked right away, but the phone was on a loudspeaker.

[[She can hear you,] Oliver responded before his voice faded into the background.

“Hello?” Kyle was worried for a second that something had happened to him.

[[Don’t talk, listen,] Priscilla commanded, and this was exactly what Kyle did.

[[The case I have been put on is a big one. I’m sure you have seen the news about several body parts found in different locations? This is what we are working on, but…]] Priscilla paused, wondering if she should divulge the next piece of information to him.

“It is the Mafia, isn’t it?” Kyle asked, and everyone went quiet for a second, but Kyle could hear Oliver in the background asking how he would know this when no one had divulged the information.

[[How did you know this?]] Priscilla asked right away, and Kyle sighed; this revelation wasn’t a mistake on his part.

“I have the internet, and it would be crazy not to research something so inhumane to begin with,” Kyle informed her.

This was a valid point, but it also showed his lack of interest in revealing his association with this group.

Kyle knew he needed to expand his business, and it was taking shape with Calista serving at the forefront of it all.

She had not only put her agency on the map, but the rapid growth it had witnessed over the past couple of weeks showed no signs of stopping.

But Kyle knew this could all be taken away with one wrong step; he had to cover his tracks and all involvement with the Mafia.

But he also wanted to see the role Cleopatra played because if she influence in this part of the world, then there were things she would be capable of that even he couldn’t protect Ella from.

Kyle couldn’t shake off Nakamura’s reaction; he was a lot more frightened about Cleopatra than he was the Mafia, which was strange.

This shouldn’t be the case; she was just a woman, but Kyle had to calm himself down.

[[And what else did you find out?]] Priscilla questioned.

Kyle wanted to tell her about the attempt on his life, but kept quiet because he knew that would invite more questions.

Questions he couldn’t give answers to, and he was fine with that as he knew the dangers of letting them know too much too soon.

“That is pretty much it. I also know this might put the others on edge. I mean, if someone dropped a body part in my territory, I would take that as disrespect,” Kyle added.

But once again, showing knowledge he should otherwise not have, because why does he have an interest in their territories? The fact that he made the same connection as Priscilla made her admire his deduction skills.

[[I see, I wasn’t the only one who made the connection.]] She sounded almost relieved by this revelation because it showed she was getting closer to hitting the nail on the head.

However, knowing was one thing; doing something about it was entirely different.

Kyle knew he couldn’t be seen with them because the voice played in his head, warning him about someone watching him.

Kyle knew there was a chance this guardian angel was watching him, so he had to be careful not to leave anything that could tie back to these two.

He knew what would happen should something of that nature happen, and it wasn’t something pretty either.

“The truth is, I’m worried about you and Oliver more now that I know you have been assigned the case. If there is anything I can do to help out, let me know,” Kyle was serious, which was rare.

He didn’t crack any jokes or try to downplay the situation. Kyle understood the fear that came with this.

[[It is fine and thank you,]] Priscilla was dismissive and ended the conversation before Kyle could get another word in.

Kyle didn’t even bother pushing it and put his phone away, still seeing that Ella hadn’t responded to his messages.

This didn’t matter because he was going to the club he owned; he hadn’t been there for a while, but to his surprise, this place was doing a lot better than he had anticipated.

It was filled to the brim, and Kyle noticed there were even more customers there.

The air was different as well because it wasn’t just anyone within it, but the most important thing was that Nate had hired even more people.

“Hello, boss man!” Nate was quick to greet his superior, and Kyle waved to him. The new hires weren’t familiar with him.

They shared the typical shock when they saw someone so young owning a place as big as this.

It was like he had sold his soul to the devil to achieve this level of wealth.

“Hey man! How is it going?” Kyle was upbeat about seeing Nate because Nate was one of the few people he considered a friend.

“It is going great! Better than great!” Nate responded. Kyle allowed him to take leave with pay and offered to cover his tuition in the process.

“I can see that you are killing it!” Kyle praised him, but he knew this couldn’t be the limit of his ambition.

The possibility of growth was infinite, and Kyle was going to explore every avenue.

The sky was his limit, but he could start with a skyscraper so he could glance at the world he wished to conquer.

Kyle sat on one of the stools stationed at the bar’s side to speak to Nate, even though the music was somewhat of a classical theme.

It wasn’t loud either, but this was because it was daytime and people came here to relax during the day, not party.

Kyle smiled because he was worried Nate wouldn’t be able to figure it out due to his lack of experience, but he had grown to the task.

“Thank you, boss! I have news, we have received offers from multiple who wish to host events in our club!” Nate pointed out, and Kyle was pleased with this development.

This was a lot sooner than he expected because he knew this would be one of the main sources of his income within the club.

He wanted the club to have multiple functions, which would maximise its earning potential around the clock.

Kyle knew this place was safe, but it wasn’t all. Nate gestured for him to come over to the back room reserved for his office.

Kyle followed, but like clockwork, Nate didn’t need to say a word before someone took over his role, something Kyle noticed as it worked like a well-oiled engine.

“What is it?” Kyle questioned, but Nate was eager to show him whatever it was he had in store.

He searched for a second or so before stumbling onto a piece of paper and sliding it over the desk.

“What is this?” Kyle asked, but Nate wasn’t about to spoil the surprise.

“Read it!” Nate exclaimed, and that was exactly what he did.

Kyle’s eyes widened in surprise because Nate had shown a return of over $500,000.

“What the fuck!?” Kyle couldn’t help but show his utter shock.
