Chapter 256: A Lesson in Brutality
The skyline was alive.
Kaede leapt as her slender body sliced clean through the cold air like a blade. The ends of her pink hair whipped behind her as her geta landed sharply on the next rooftop. The instant she touched down, she was already sprinting across the long metal wing of the skyscraper.
It was like watching a modern day shinobi.
Trickshot casually cracked his neck and pressed a button on his jacket.
Click.
The metallic spine along his back split open to rearrange into a sleek, compact jetpack.
King Cobra didn’t even look up.
He just flipped another page of his massive book.
“Don’t break the glass roof again…”
Trickshot grinned like a child about to light a firecracker.
“No promises, big guy.”
He slammed his goggles down.
“Time to party.”
The jetpack flared to life, kicking him off the ledge and into the air with a thunderous FWOOOSH!
Below, Nightwatch was already swinging toward him.
Trickshot’s grin widened.
“Well, look who’s late to his own funeral.”
His cybernetic eye glowed red as it locked onto their quarry for the night.
Target confirmed. Nightwatch.
He raised his advanced wrist-mounted gun.
“Dance for me ya pale white twink! BAHAHAHAH!”
Then came the storm.
RATATATATATATATAT!!!
Tracer rounds blazed through the air and ruthlessly ripped apart billboards, shattered glass panels, and left streaks of orange sparks across the night sky.
Nightwatch twisted and flipped through the air as his wrist grappling hook shot out at crazy angles. He swung between the metal beams, kicked off the walls, and skillfully spun through collapsing debris.
Every bullet whizzed past him.
They missed by just a few inches!
[BROOO THIS IS A MOVIE 🔥🔥🔥]
ㄴ [Newgen 💀]
ㄴ [Fr, all Nightwatch streams are absolute cinema]
ㄴ [Well, except for the one about the guy who jacks off to spit acidic sperm at high velocity.]
[He’s dodging bullets LIKE THAT!???]
[Nightwatch’s movement tech is actually insane.]
[That gunfire pattern tho—Trickshot’s reading him like he’s got a super expensive aimbot.]
ㄴ [Yeah but the thing about Nightwatch is he adapts mid-combat. Give it 10 more seconds.]
ㄴ [Get his meat out of your mouth bro 💀]
ㄴ [How is that glaze? It’s true]
Trickshot smirked as he adjusted his aim.
He wasn’t shooting at Nightwatch anymore.
He was shooting around him.
Bullets tore into cranes, power cables, air-conditioning units and many more.
CRASH!
A massive billboard broke free and swung like a pendulum straight for Nightwatch.
“Son of a—!”
Nightwatch fired his hook to the opposite side to swing under the falling debris just in time.
[OH MY GOD THAT WAS SO CLOSE 😭😭😭]
[He’s trying to herd him into a trap!]
[If the Trickshot’s shooting is such a problem then why doesn’t he just stop him from doing that?]
ㄴ [That’s like saying “if Albert Einstein is so smart why is he dead?” it’s so dumb 💀]
ㄴ [Ong, where do they bring these people from?]
Nightwatch twisted mid-air to try and reorient himself.
But Trickshot was already taking his real shot.
“Caught ya.”
He fired.
The blast thundered through the air.
Nightwatch barely deflected the bullet by swinging around a metal crane as sparks boomed behind him.
Trickshot’s laugh echoed through his comms.
“Good reflexes, pretty boy! You’re making me hard!”
Then, as the echo faded, Trickshot’s attention slid back to the car far below.
Through his scope, Curtis and Martha were still chatting like nothing had happened. Martha casually sipped her water while Curtis went on about some old business trip to Prague.
Trickshot smirked.
“Man, they’re really hitting it off. Would be a crying shame if someone ruined it—”
But before he could finish, something whizzed past his ear.
He froze.
Then heard the THUNK—a grappling hook burying itself into the high-rise wall beside him.
He looked up—
Nightwatch was flying toward him at terrifying speed.
“Oh, come on—”
Before Trickshot could react, a sudden FLASH sliced through the darkness.
The metal rope snapped.
Nightwatch’s eyes widened. “What—!?”
The next second, gravity claimed him. He was falling.
As he spun mid-air, his narrowed caught a blur of silver and white.
Kaede Kazama.
She was sheathing her blade—in mid-air.
Her expression was unbelievably calm.
He barely saw her.
It was like she existed only between frames.
『That speed… how…?』
Nightwatch’s mind raced.
Even as he fell, his eyes tracked the battlefield.
Kaede moved like a ghost.
Trickshot dominated the sky with range.
Curtis and Martha were clueless and helpless below.
『 Ahhh, fuck it all. She’s fast—too fast. Her strength isn’t the problem—it’s her timing. She attacks the moment before you react. Trickshot controls the air. If I go for one, the other’ll punish me. I can’t guard them both.』
He gritted his teeth.
『But Trickshot’s not comfy up there. He’s relying on that jetpack. A close-range attack should be enough to throw him off his game… Kaede’s basically keeping me from getting near him. So all I have to do is distract her first… then that bastard’s mine.』
[He’s thinking. Look at him. Dude’s literally falling while strategizing 💀]
[Kaede’s movement is unreal. I didn’t even see her draw her sword.]
[Her speed is beyond human. Straight anime tier.]
[If I blink, I miss her entire career.]
ㄴ [And we do not wanna miss her fine ass 😏]
ㄴ [Not the time, lil bro 💀]
Before he could blink… Kaede was behind him.
It was so sudden it almost felt like Nightwatch didn’t even get the chance to breathe.
『Already—!?』
He was so shocked he couldn’t even blink.
Her katana sang as it left the sheath.
ZIIIINNNGGG!
One clean, merciless arc toward his neck.
“Huh—?”
He barely had time to see it.
But then he realized… this strike wasn’t as fast.
Nightwatch grinned under his mask.
In one swift motion, he twisted mid-fall and wrapped his arms tightly around her.
Kaede blinked, startled.
“Wha… what are you doing?”
“Ehehe, sorry. I’ve got a crush on you. Can’t let you out of my sight.”
Kaede exhaled softly, forcing out a half-eyed frown.
“Lucky me, then.”
The ground was approaching fast.
Nightwatch’s grin widened.
“Lucky you, actually.”
Right before impact, a burst of blue slime shot out from his palms to wrap around her in long, glowing strands.
The tendrils caught her in midair and swung her toward a nearby lamppost.
She hit it—not hard enough to hurt, but enough to leave her hanging upside down.
Now she was tightly bound in the glowing slime.
Nightwatch landed on the post as well.
“Checkmate!”
He crouched smoothly above her with her own katana now spinning lazily in his hand.
“Well, well…”
He teased smugly as he inspected the blade.
“You’re supposed to be one of the deadliest assassins alive, huh? Been kind of a breeze so far.”
Kaede didn’t look annoyed. Just calm.
“You won’t realize what you’re dealing with… until the time comes.”
He chuckled low.
“Cute. But I wasn’t joking about the whole having a crush on you thing. I really do like you though. Pretty. Petite. And I honestly think I’ve got a thing for assassins.”
Kaede’s eyes widened slightly.
Somehow her face didn’t turn red, but was a bit flustered.
“I… I’m flattered, but—”
PLOP!
A blob of slime sealed her mouth.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m just kidding…”
Nightwatch said with a shrug.
“Besides, I already have girlfriends. You know, the ones you guys kidnapped?”
He gave her a gentle pat.
Kaede’s face turned bitter. Her pride was certainly hurt.
“MMMPH! Mmm… fwww—mmmph!”
She screamed but they came out as muffled noises.
[BRO IS FLIRTING WITH HIS ENEMY 😭😭😭]
[Nightwatch got RIZZ even mid-battle 💀💀💀]
[Kaede’s actually kinda cute tho ngl 🥺]
ㄴ [No way bro’s shipping himself mid-combat…]
[Stockholm Syndrome fans in shambles rn 😭]
ㄴ [I still like her. She’s calm even while tied up lmao.]
[She’s got small tits tho]
ㄴ [Yeah, she’s no big titty Dark Elf 😔]
ㄴ [The meat rises for all sizes 🤷♂️]
Nightwatch switched the katana to his other hand.
His eyes narrowed at the glowing rooftop where the light from Trickshot’s jetpack scintillated.
His voice dropped to a low murmur.
“Alright, Trickshot… round two.”
The lamp post bent under the force as he launched himself back into the air and cut through the wind like a missile with a smirk beneath his mask.
FWOOOOSH!
He rocketed straight for his target.
『That’s phase one over. Still, I shouldn’t overuse the technophage. If I burn out now, I’ll be nothing but a husk later. Moderate it… keep it tight.』
A blue spark pulsed along his arm. Then — FWIP!
A thick string of slime launched from his palm and spiralled through the air like an electric whip.
“Oh, hell no—”
Trickshot jerked his body mid-glide to slide sideways
He narrowly dodged the streak of glowing sludge.
He smirked and leveled his wrist-mounted gun.
> “Nice aim, idiot! You missed!”
He fired back rapidly.
BRRRRRRRTTT!
With every burst of gunfire, bullets zipped dangerously close to Nightwatch.
But he was still very calm.
“Really?”
Then — SNAP!
The same slime-string latched onto a busted billboard behind Trickshot.
A split-second later, blue currents raced through it.
The busted neon letters flashed violently.
“Wait, what—”
Trickshot couldn’t believe his eyes.
Before he could stabilize, Nightwatch enhanced his muscles and yanked the line.
The entire billboard RIPPED from its hinges and came crashing into Trickshot from behind. The impact busted his jetpack and drove him downward as a painful cough of blood sprayed out while his body twisted mid-fall.
“AAAGH—!”
Before Trickshot could recover, another line of blue slime whipped out.
It latched onto his chest harness.
“NO NO NO—NOT AGAIN—!”
Nightwatch readied himself with a growl and pulled with monstrous strength.
“Get over here!”
Trickshot screamed as he was pulled like a ragdoll straight toward Nightwatch.
He fired wildly in panic.
But the bullets ricocheted everywhere and hit nothing.
Then — CRACK.
Nightwatch’s enhanced fist slammed dead center into Trickshot’s face.
The force of the blow was like a cannon.
Trickshot’s visor shattered.
The impact sent him crashing through the glass wall of the skyscraper then he smashed window after window as he tore through the building before finally disappearing into the office floors inside.
[HOLY SHIT NIGHTWATCH IS A DEMON 😳]
[Bro that punch had its own zip code]
[Not as hard as how my dad hits my mom tho…]
ㄴ [Uhm, you alright bro? 💀]
[Trickshot’s bones just left the chat 💀]
[omg poor baby Trickshot 😭💔]
Nightwatch was already falling.
He fired a slime-string and latched onto the side of a high-rise to slow himself down.
But the recoil was brutal.
“AHHHH—!”
The sudden jerk disjointed his shoulder.
A scream ripped from his throat and echoed down the street like a wounded beast.
Miles away, King Cobra heard it.
He slowly closed his book and narrowed his eyes.
“I was almost at ‘The Power of Now’ chapter. This is such a great read.”
He angled the book toward the sound then rolled his neck as his veins bulged.
The muscles across his arms inflated like they were cords of power writhing under his skin.
Then he pulled back his arm — and threw.
BOOM—!!
The book tore the air apart and created a sonic whip-crack that shattered windows on its way.
It didn’t feel like a throw.
It felt more like an artillery strike.
Nightwatch’s eyes widened as he looked up.
“SHI—!”
He dove off the building just as the book hit.
KAAA-THOOOOM!!
The book ripped through the high-rise like it was made of paper and detonated the entire side of the structure in an earth-shaking shockwave.
The building folded inward like it was made of butter.
[WHAT THE HELL DID HE THROW 😭😭😭]
[HE THREW A BOOK BRO]
[How much Red Bull do I have to drink to be like that?]
[Library fines about to go crazy 💀]
ㄴ [Bro threw Encyclopedia of Pain and Misery.]
ㄴ [Bro turned literature into a ballistic missile.]
Nightwatch landed hard on another building and rolled.
He looked back to gasp in relief.
“Holy hell—!”
He froze immediately after.
King Cobra was already there.
No sound. No warning. Just presence.
Nightwatch choked on his own breath.
“No…”
And then — BAM.
The punch came faster than thought.
Nightwatch instinctively threw up a thick wall of blue slime to cushion it, but when the punch landed, it was like getting hit by a truck made of thunder.
BOOM!
His head snapped back.
He felt his jaw crack.
His vision explode into static.
“NNGHHHK—!!”
And his body launched downward like a meteor.
He hit the ground hard enough to crater the street as cracks webbed across the asphalt.
Blood pooled from his mouth as he gasped for air.
[JESUS HE’S DEAD 😭😭😭]
[YESSIR THAT’S KING ENERGY 💪🐍]
ㄴ [you’re supporting the wrong guy, idiot]
ㄴ [who said I like Nightwatch?]
[Someone call an ambulance bro he’s done]
[Wait… did the black guy just teleport?!]
[welp, no way he’s getting up after that]
[Bro needs a new spine.]
ㄴ [And a new life insurance policy.]
Before he could move, King Cobra powerfully landed directly above him.
He looked down at the broken vigilante.
“You can’t win like this.”
A weak Nightwatch weakly tilted his head in the ground.
“H-, Huh?”
Cobra shook his head in disappointment.
“You joke. You flirt. You smile even while your women are held captive.”
He crouched over him and lowered his tone.
“Are they so disposable to you? That you joke while facing their captors?”
Nightwatch’s vision blurred.
“You… don’t understand…”
He coughed out thick amounts of blood.
Cobra gave him a gentle slap on the face.
“Oh, I understand perfectly. You don’t have that fire.”
He slapped Nightwatch over and over again.
“You’ll never be a symbol if you can’t cut down the ones who cross the line.”
Nightwatch groaned as blood dripped from his chin.
King Cobra leaned back slightly and sighed.
“Where is the man that fought the Red Beast? That one had all that rage and fire.”
He raised his arm again.
Nightwatch coughed and trembled as he raised a broken hand weakly.
“S-, Stop… please… I can’t—”
King Cobra’s eye twitched.
Then — he slammed his palm over Nightwatch’s face and drove it into the ground.
“You think you get to surrender?!”
He leaned in and whispered fake sympathy—
“No. I’m not your friend… I’m your enemy.”
Cobra hurled Nightwatch into a wall — CRASH!
“Where’s your spirit? Where’s your disgust? WHERE IS YOUR RAGE?!”
He dashed forward and unleashed a storm of punches.
BOOM—BOOM—BOOM—BOOM—BOOM—!!
Each hit broke stone, glass, and bone.
The entire block shook with the tremors.
Reporters had gathered by now.
Most of them were pretty much pale and speechless.
Even the cameramen trembled behind their cameras.
Some tried to comment, but no words came out.
“We… we’re witnessing this live, folks. Nightwatch… is— he’s— I… I don’t know what to say.”
“This isn’t a fight anymore… it’s a lesson.”
“Someone stop him!!”
Cameras from nearby journalists that were too scared to get any closer zoomed in.
“Th-, This is… we’re witnessing the brutal defeat of the vigilante Nightwatch… the man who—oh my god… he’s… he’s not even moving…”
All they saw was a behemoth burying Nightwatch’s face into the ground with each punch.
Maybe the scariest part for the onlookers was how his legs flailed lifelessly.
Chairman Lymtos watched from his penthouse suite as he swirled a glass of red wine.
“Magnificent.”
A small smile pulled his dry lips.

–
Wet, sloshing sounds could be heard with how fatally King Cobra’s fists drilled into Nightwatch’s face. When he pulled his arm back for another punch, something small hit him from behind… a stone.
He turned around sharply.
All the reporters were already running for their lives.
Except one. Judy Cho.
She stood there paralyzed as her face twisted from the pain and frustration of watching Cobra completely destroy the man she admired most.
Fear was written all over her, but even then she still forced herself to speak.
“Please… leave him alone…”
Her voice trembled as she sniffled hard.
With a calming sigh, King Cobra finally stopped.
He stood straight and casually stretched his arms.
He looked down at what remained of Nightwatch.
His mask was broken, but with how swollen and broken his face was you wouldn’t recognize him.
“Unfortunately… I can’t inspire you more.”
He clicked his tongue.
“That lesson… will be given by Grave.”
Cobra turned toward the trembling journalists recording the scene and smiled.
“Do you have some soap and water?”
He held out his blood-streaked knuckles.
“Need to wash this off.”
No one knew what to do.
Besides Judy who ran straight to Nightwatch.
“MISTER NIGHTWATCH! ARE YOU OKAY—!?”
She looked like she’d cry.
