Chapter 409: Chapter 409: The King & Mother of Change
Chapter 409 – The King & Mother of Change

“He cannot die.”

These words strangely echoed across the forbidden dune zone over and over again like a cursed song.

Each of their faces now held a distinct look of seriousness, finally understanding the reason why Aurelia told them to not only leave Him to Noah, but also to wait until the very end.

The very power the name emitted was staggering. It was like something was pressing down on their chests, trying to choke away the breath inside their lungs.

They only succeeded in taking hold of themselves thanks to their naturally unfair concepts tied to them.

Noah, meanwhile, was untouched by the weight of The King’s name, but he felt it.

They said names have power… and now none of them doubted that claim.

The man had more than three laws understood. Added to that with six origins, and one of them being the Origin of Samsara. It was an origin superior to the Origin of Life and the one of Death.

Even Noah raised an eyebrow at that.

All of them fell silent at the revelation, and all of them watched Noah, wondering what he would think.

There was obviously no other choice but to go to the King in the North, for Selene needed the Origin of Frost.

The conflict between them was inevitable.

So after a couple of seconds of tense silence, Noah finally parted open his mouth. His voice was quiet and soothing, holding not an ounce of apprehension one would expect,

“Is this the type of guy to negotiate?” he inquired softly.

If there was a way to avoid direct conflict, certainly he would choose that route. Not out of fear, but out of pragmatism.

Fool was the man who solved everything with brute strength.

Noah was no fool.

Before Aurelia even answered, Asaemon scoffed loudly, “Don’t tell me you expect him to yield his origins?” he questioned, shaking his head furiously, “He is the King in the North, youngest.”

“That I seem to have heard,” Noah answered curtly.

Asaemon sighed and decided to explain, “You certainly cannot fully fathom the weight behind the title, but trust me, He would never yield.”

“No being with such power would yield. Hell, no progenitors even bother with him, because even if they could probably win against him if they went full power, the costs would be so steep they might destroy their very foundations in the process.”

Asaemon leaned forward, the tension around him so dense one could almost taste it, “Noah, can you imagine someone who understood more than three laws? I am here, an abomination, and I only understood two laws. Even Aurelia, it’s the same.”

Noah nodded softly, acknowledging Asaemon’s words. He had himself tried to understand Law like anyone else. The difficulty was staggering. So much that it motivated him to upgrade his system.

“And,” Aurelia picked up where her brother stopped, “six origins, dear sisters and youngest… is the kind of power very few in the universe would claim to possess.”

“Well,” Justicia added with a dry smile, “I have always heard of Him, but I never knew He was this outrageous.”

“Same for me,” Elira said, tilting her head. “Still, I remember the Concept Dragons, especially the ones with life and death, always seeking him. Though he always refused.”

Each one of them began to speak while digesting the Abomination’s words. These new pieces of information only proved their initial intuition about this endeavor.

Collecting the Origins would be a steep mountain to climb. One with thorns and no foothold to ease the process.

“Is he the only threat?” Noah asked once more.

Aurelia and Asaemon looked at each other, eyes twinkling, seeming to weigh whether they should speak or not.

But their hesitation didn’t last long. They decided to warn their youngest so he could be ready.

“Ah, yes, there is another one, youngest,” Asaemon smiled wryly, “same situation as the King in the North with many laws understood, but this one is different.”

The wives and Noah focused.

“How so?” he asked while he caressed Lea, making the dog snuggle deeper into his chest. Neko spared her a distasteful glare.

“She only has two origins in her possession,” Aurelia said, raising two fingers, “but it’s the nature of the origins that make her a threat. And also the target of The King.”

Aurelia paused, and they waited in tense silence.

“She has the Origin of Limitlessness,” she began, Noah’s eyes finally widened, “and the Origin of Transformation.”

“She is called Mother of Change.”

Aurelia applied immense power to say her title, doing her best not to alert the person herself and not to make her sisters-in-law suffer the weight of the name.

“And oh, she is among the few Legacy Bearers who the universe believes could go against the King.”

Once again, silence settled down. This one lasted for a full minute before slowly, Selene turned her head toward her son, then smiled quietly,

“So, my baby, any plan for this endeavor of ours?” she asked.

She was among the few who were not apprehensive about going against these two monsters. Providence and Appolonia being among them.

It was not arrogance, per se. It was belief in their own family. And belief in Noah.

Noah had never lost a war, and he had never failed to obtain what he wanted, even though there were costs involved in it.

Now the question was how much it would cost him this time to obtain these origins.

Whatever the cost would be, each of them was ready to bear it with him. And this time, none would tolerate him doing it alone.

Noah could see in their eyes the burning fire of determination. He laughed lightly, then slowly got up from the ground, giving a soft tap to Wormy.

The beast screeched in sadness at being dismissed, but still did so after snuggling up to Noah for a heartbeat.

Now standing, Noah swept his mesmerizing eyes across his wives and siblings.

“Now we know, in some way, what we should expect.” He muttered, yet his voice echoed deep inside their skulls, “We have the likes of The King and Mother of Change as opponents to our glory.”

“Their powers are dreadful as all of you can see.” His lips parted into a smile, “Yet there is no need for any of you to worry.”

“I am Noah Vaelgrim. And I am with you.”

“One step of mine, one step of yours. I walk, you walk.”

The wives began to smile.

“Now, ladies, you wish to fight your own battles. For yourself, for the family. Then you shall be allowed to do so.”

“There is only one big thing left to do.” He raised his index finger, “and that is to find each location of the origins we need and plan our next action.”

“Leave it to us.” Red grinned, “We will take care of those informations.”

“I can ask Shadow for some of them.” Ester added, being the only one who didn’t need an origin, for she already had one.

She only needed her star to start.

“I will ask the children!” Emmie said with an eager grin, “It will be the perfect opportunity to bond with them! I wonder if they would like my cooking?” She tilted her head cutely at the end.

“Then I leave this task to you. I have some matters to attend, so lovely ladies, let’s meet at night?” he added with a grin, then slowly drifted his eyes toward Shadeva.

Shadeva nodded with a reassuring smile.

Noah mirrored her, then disappeared.

The wives stared at each other, their warm eyes slowly fading until only cold, chilling determination remained.

Yuki cracked her neck, her sword-shaped eyes glowing with severing hue, “It’s time, isn’t it?”

“It is,” Appolonia added at her side, “we are a faction but none know about us. A good thing, one would say, but…”

Her inverted pyramid eyes began to flicker with yellow fire, “…I do not like this.”

“You think it will be enough?” Aphasia added, “If we obtain all these origins and even take down The King and Mother of Change.”

She paused, looking at each of her sisters,

“Do you believe it’s enough to introduce us officially as one of the universe’s powerhouses?”

Aurelia and Asaemon watched at the side, feeling a weird surge of excitement pulse inside their veins the more they imagined what they would soon do.

Because yes, even they would act. It wouldn’t be only the wives and Noah.

It would be the Vaelgrim. It would be the Elysiari.

And at Aphasia’s question, all of them found their lips curling into sinister and malevolent smiles,

“Shall we see?”

…

Noah appeared back in the depth of the White Castle, in the underground where the prisoners were held.

He found himself face to face with three beings who sat inside their cells, life devoid in their eyes, watching blankly the ceiling.

These were supposed to be immortal, but at that instant you would not have been able to differentiate them from wretched mortals.

Noctis, Ebony, and Sylphira.

As the boundless presence of Noah covered the whole prison, they instantly snapped their heads toward him. At his sight, their eyes began to dance with fear but also with faint traces of hope.

Noah stood there, hands on his back, watching them wordlessly.

They, too, stayed silent, lacking the courage to shatter the quiet.

The standoff lasted only a few minutes, which felt like eternity to the tired and desperate siblings, before Noah broke it,

“Dear in-laws,” he murmured, smiling coldly, “it’s time for you to see the light, once more.”
